63 foot party yacht

I Don't own one of those nice new boats but I do love boating. I have a 1970 63 foot wood yacht I am restoring ........... but I do have three bathrooms that can come in handy in the middle of the lake

What lake in TN, I hope to retire on Norris - in 10-15 years.

I kinda started working on it. Had the rims off the trailer, changing the oil in the oil bath hubs. It takes straight 50w, so I got me a quart of Valvoline VR-1 50w racing oil, (I didn't want to go with a mutli-grade like 20w-50 cuz the book said straight 50w) drained the old out, put the new in. BTW, each hub takes about 8 ounces apiece.

There won't be a lot of effort to get ready. Give her a bath and a wax job, mount the speakers back on the tower. Not much more than that.

You got a process list for changing the hub oil?

Pretty straight forward W, IMO...........my trailer is 3 yrs old this year. I thought it needed it, and I was surprised at the amt of 'sediment' that came out. There was NO water intrusion, though.

1) a drain pan to catch the oil.
2) 4mm allen wrench (may have been a 5mm)
3) 1 qt straight 50w oil.
4) an 'eye dropper' (mine held about an ounce a squirt)
5) a dab of permatex

Procedure goes something like this.......
.
Jack the trailer so the tire is off the ground and take the rim off the hub and loosen the pipe plug. Turn the hub so's that the drain is @ 6 o'clock. Position the pan under the plug and take the plug the rest of the way out.

This part is optional......while the oil is draining, crack yourself open a cold one, we had Budweiser on hand, but I do admit I like a little Hiney.......

takes a few minutes to drain, but you can see it going down in the sight glass. I guess you could take the eye dropper and suck it out

After finish draining, Turn hub back up to 12 o'clock and fill completely with 50w oil. Completely means no air left in the hub. When mine was about full, I'd spin the hub 90 degrees left and right, let it 'settle', then top it off again. I did this several times
.
Once full, no air bubbles, put a dab of permatex on threads of the plug and re-install.
