We have had our 2001 Mobius V since 2001. Love the boat. Surfing is the activity of choice as wakeboard get is becoming too hard on body parts. A couple of years ago the bottom bolts on the swim platform pulled out. As others have written, the platform bottom bolts are lag bolts screws into the transom structure. Over time the threds strip and the bolts can fall out. There is no access to this area of the transom as it is beneath the interior floor surface. My first attempt at a fix was to cast new threads by using chopped fiberglass and stainless lag bolts. the idea is to recast the threads by pushing the chopped glass and resin in the original holes. Then spray no stick cooking spray on the bolt threads and screwing them in. 24 hrs later remove the bolts and the threads are formed. This worked for about 1 season. The I put brass thread inserts in the lower holes. This lasted for about 1 more season. So this time I went at it a more intrusive way. This should be the permanent fix.

First my friend and I cut an access ports on the port and starboard side of the boat flooring.

Then we removed the foam using a wood hole paddle bit.

Using aluminum plates we used stainless bolts and nuts for the lower bracket holes. We used loctite on the nuts.

We attached the swim platform brackets using 3M 5200 Marine Adheasive.

Then we sprayed ‘Great Stuff’ foam from Home Depot in the area we removed the factory foam. Hint, this stuff expands so spray a little and wait for it to expand. After the foam had set we glassed in the ports we had cut.

We also used the same plates in the upper bolts.

Nicely done. Am I the only one who appreciates this thread?

Filed away for future use - may need better access to those pics in original size...

I sent a PM to him. I'm going to add some glass to reinforce my transom this spring too

I did the same exact thing! Nicely done, I also have yellow 01 Mob V. Great Boat! Only had it for a year, can't wait to put it back in the water.

Not totally sure - if you are using Tapatalk I think it may downsize automatically.

Hey Scott I know this is an old thread but I was wondering how it turned out and if it’s still leak proof? I’m dealing with the same thing. Also what setup did you use to surf? I have the exact same boat!
