Finally took my upholstery to the shop to get all new vinyl. It'll be done in a month. Can't wait. New colors and textures are on tap! picking out colors with the sample book in front of me was awesome, about as close as I'll likely get to designing a new boat. It's gonna be like a whole new boat to me!.

The XLV with the playpen bow has a TON of vinyl. filled the whole 6.5' bed and the 3 rear sundeck covers went in the rear seating area.

It seems like you are having so much fun finding your balance under the sun.

It’s a bit unnerving and I hope to get more comfortable with a few rides.

I obviously did the removal of the upholstery and will reinstall it in the boat. Assuming that I don't need any major foam replacement, it'll be $3,300. Not the best price in the world, but not the worst. The "premium" go to shop around here wanted $5k+. Keep in mind that the XLV is a 23' boat with TONS of vinyl because of the playpen bow...

I could have dropped the price a little by doing the staple removal and even re-wrapping them myself, but I've seen enough botched wrap jobs to know better than that. I intended on pulling the staples, but instead the upholstery sat in my garage for 3 months untouched. LOL.

for a boat that size and complete upholstery, 3k is not a bad price at all.
looking forward to seeing it all put back together.

My XLV received all new vinyl last year to the tune of $5K. It is the newer style material too. Much better than the old leather grain stuff.

That is cool you had the time and saved yourself some labor $ by removing and installing.

I’ve always had used boats, so I do not how I would freak out the first time someone walked on my new vinyl with dirty dock shoes or flip-flops.

Brought her out of hibernation today for the dealer to fix a small gouge in the gel we noticed when we took delivery last year. I’m not too concerned with it but the wife insisted it get corrected lol. I’m more worried about what could happen to the boat for the 2-4 weeks it’s not in our possession (getting it fixed involves them transporting it 300+ miles round trip to the local dealers primary dealership).

This was the first time I’ve towed with the wife’s 6.2L Suburban, that thing is a beast!

I have not ever seen a specific test done on marine vinyl but have seen enough posts across the vast boating forums to decide better safe than sorry.
sometimes the internet is full of lies but sometimes it's not. I'll take the chance that it's not with the cash I put down on my boat :)

It's the propellant. to make it spray, it needs propellant: The most common volatile carrier for sunscreen sprays is anhydrous ethyl alcohol. And the spray is 50 to 80% propellant. There's also solvents in sunscreen (up to 10%) that are necessary to keep the sunscreen liquid.

So it's like pouring alcohol on your vinyl. Dries it out horribly and makes it crack.

That's my understanding. I'm getting new upholstery and spray sunscreen will be banned.

Happened on our boat and cost me a skin back in 2006. Not sure who had it and what brand but it put a nice orange stain where the upper legs touched the vinyl. The fix I had is no sitting on the vinyl until the lotion soaked in or sit on a beach towel.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So first, "Foil", foil basically refers to a shape or object when talking fluid mechanic/dynamics. Essentially a foil creates lift at a certain angle of attack whereby the force generated perpendicular is greater than the drag. Much like a airplane wing, you have one side in which water flows past faster than the other. All fins are foils and have foils, the shape of your surfboard, the contours of the rails and deck are also referred to as foils; hydrofoils, water wings, etc., are also just call foils. Our "Vectored" foil and 'Flare' fins, both have similar over all foils, they have a fairly typical convex shape on the outside and a mix of concave, flat and convex contours on the inside (commonly referred to a a Vector foil, as opposed to a flat foil or symmetrical foil, or 80/20 foil). The contours change the way water molecule move around the fin, playing with lift and drag, changes in pressure. Our "vectored foil fin" was one of the first wakesurf specific fins we brought out and we always called it the vector to indicated it has a vectored foil versus a symmetrical (like center fins and traditional twin fins, both side with similar convex shapes) or flat (flat inside and convex outside), 80/20 or 60/40 (similar to symmetrical only the inside foil is not as convex as the outside, not truly symmetrical).

The way to think about our standard vectored foil fin is as an improvement of to say a general surf template like the blackstix f4. It is similar in size and template, with a slight wider base for drive, less sweep for faster turns and tighter pocket turns and a more progressive cant (lean towards the rail). The flare fin takes all things great about our vectored foil fin, and combines it with a slight more aggressive template with a little more overall fin area, and a double cant (the tip is tilted further out, improving lift and release). In simple terms you get a supercharged speed generating fin, that allows for similar release of a smaller fin. More fin=more speed. Less fin=looseness. Looseness is often confused with speed/drive. People think loose boards are fast, because they feel loose and easily moveable, but in practical terms you are not actually moving faster.

Probably clear as mud.......

Nick

Spent some time on the water last weekend for our first time out, 2nd owners of this 2017 Craz. New to us this season. Didn't get any good on water shots, so here's cleanup.

We normally are at Wolford in CO or Lake Powell... but we hauled it to Arizona for spring break. Went to Mead today, then at Havasu tonight through Friday.

A decent 4/3 in your temps would be perfect. Neoprene booties for surfing are great! I personally use a pair of farmer johns and a heater top. Keep up with the cool photos!

It's more like the rule of 85 to 90 for me up here. Or really it's the rule of "it's not raining and it's not freezing temps overnight"

Awesome, need all the advice on cold gear I can get. Neoprene booties are genius, forgot about them even though I have used them diving a long time ago, makes perfect sense. I recall them being quite cheap as well.

Or maybe some neoprene socks. the neoprene booties keep your feet warm, but the rubber soles on them take away a great deal of the board feel and control. And you can't use booties with wakeboard bindings. Although with my closed toe bindings, I've been fine in water temps in the low 40s or even in the upper 30s.

Looks like an amazing time. A buddy just got a Jupiter 38 HFS and I’m dying to get out on it.

Do you know what the allure of center consoles is? Other than that they’re just go-fast fishing boats lol. He sold a 44’ Luhrs for about the same price as the center console and they’re both sick boats but seems like the Luhrs (and boats like it) have a ton more cabin space and protected cockpit areas out of the elements.

Here’s some pics from dolphin season, took my Dad down the Keys for father’s day.

Matt, no idea the allure. I’m with you. When you’re talking being 30-100 miles out, id like to have a cabin, or more protected helm too. You’re out there traveling for hours one way to fish.
However, the smaller CC’s are more manueverable when you’re on the spot.

I hate snakes but living here in the south they are definitely around. Most stay to themselves but a few years ago one was hanging out by the bungee rope between my old boat and a buddies. The wives were swimming while we were out surfing. When we came back all of them were out of the water and this guy was staying real curious of them...
