So.. I am looking at 2019 Max.

Not sure what options are available for the boat, but this one hits all the high notes for me. Except Color:

Sea_deck
heater
swivel racks
bimini
dual batteries
"all the ballast, surf Upgrades"
has factory stereo with sub, no tower speakers.
trailer
$77k. I will NOT buy until a wet test, but I am interested in this one.

Any advice on the pricing and options?

man, no matter the price if the color is a turnoff I would not be able to stand looking at it every day in the garage.

otherwise that's a good price for a new boat.

Well, it isnt horrible, but its not that great IMHO.

good thing about living in the US is that we all get to have choices on 1st world problems like color of a boat.

I'd sport that at the lake other than the drivers seat. not crazy about the amount of grey but it's not a bad looking boat.
it could be a lot worse if it was red :)

I think that is good looking boat.

Would I pick it for a build, probably not.

If you are not thrilled about it, pass on it. As mentioned above, you have to look at it all the time, on and off the water. If it gives you second thoughts all the time, I would pass.

The grey sides are too much for me especially when I’m dropping $77k on something.

Some people pick some seriously ugly color schemes to be edgy. Good luck on the resale. Ewwwww

I disagree. Boat is decent and is sale-able. If it’s a smoking deal I would not let color be worrisome to you.

It’s gray and thus very neutral. Like it! Flake will look sweet in real life.

I with ya. Someone was just texting me some pretty fugly interiors from a boat show. Centurion and BU. One was solid blue and he other was solid neon green.

Way too loud. Just what you are referring to. Yes, they made a statement, now I would like to see who will buy them next.

Well this is the question. I have seen a lot of other boats that have better colors but have carpet which I dont really want. They are also 83K. This boat is 73K. I am not buying for high fashion but can agree with other on having to look at it,and resale. The question I have is, what is the price of the boat? Can I order this same boat in a different color and still be at the same price point? My current boat is not exactly what I wanted either, but in the end, its just a machine to do a job.

The max is a boat that needs the right color combo to make it pop.

With good combo it looks good, wrong combo it looks like a work boot.

These colors are sweet!! Would love to see a pic of it from the other side in the sun. That Silver Metal Flake always looks great!! Rinker's actually has another Max with the same exterior colors on the lot. Not sure if you spec'd this one or bought it off the lot but either way they liked it enough to build another!

That Murder Max looks awesome as well!! I know people have said it before but it is so true, the Max is a sweet looking boat with the right color combo!

our current boat came tinted and can't wait to rip it off in the spring. it looks good on the boats but is a REAL PITA to drive sitting down. it cuts out visibility and although some will disagree it's kind of a safety thing. same reason you can't tint front windshields on cars below the visor strip.

That was my concern with too dark a tint

Maybe 20% or even 35% would be the compromise

I’m tall and like to look over the windshield so it doesn’t interfere for me. I added an adjustable seat pillar so I can chill in the seat instead of sitting on the bolster. My wife flips up the bolster and can see over it no problem as well.

nothing against josh's post but I would rock that blue color above with a white top/bottom deck. that white/black looks a tad bland.
no way in heck I would ever do a black or grey top deck here in the nevada sun.

that blue in a fleck would look awesome......

do agree that this boat needs 2 tone color. that solid blue from the OP looks odd and bet it'll look a but funny on the water but it's always your money. buy what you like. several love our color scheme and a few others said it's not for them.

I would not say that is a solid color, that looks two tone to me. That black/white combo does look sharp although I might flip those colors.

My comment was towards the monochromatic pacific blue.

I am not thrilled with the color limitations of the MAX.

I would personally not do a black bottom as it will show scratches and scuffs. I would like the black and blue above waterline and put platinum on the bottom.

Guys, I may have a bit of an issue. Seems I have read a lot of comments on youtube vids about people having difficulty with the surf wave out of the MAX. Is this true?

To be crystal clear I am not buying a boat just to buy a boat. I want an definitive upgrade from my LSV and to solve all the short comings my LSV has. For spending almost twice as much as My LSV was, this Max would be need to be fantastic out of the gate. My wife would lose her mind if I said I needed to buy this or that to make a MAX "work." Not to mention I would be extremely upset. Furthermore, I am not interested in "OK".

Can a Max owner weigh in on this?

z28ke
01-19-2019, 06:58 PM
It needs additional weight over the stock ballast for me @ 220+/- lbs. My wife could surf it stock just fine @ 120lbs. She just gave me 2x 720lb sacks for my birthday to go under the side seats!!!

sandm
01-19-2019, 08:21 PM
I don't think you will find any boat under 100k that surfs "great" out of the box. they all need additional weight so expect to be swapping rear bags and possible front but beyond that you shouldn't have to do much else.

Matt Brown, the Moomba Product Engineer, has a thread on here about it. I think it was started just after the boat was released. Talked about ballast and surf wakes.

Same advise as above: Add weight - plenty of room for it.

I love the Max and It surfs very well. Out of the box the wake is clean and very serviceable. If you desire more power from the wave you need to fill the boat with people, lead, or bigger ballast bags. There is some trade off that a boat manufacturer has to make between legal seating/people capacity and the Max factory ballast. IMO, This is true with any boat.

Max is a brilliant boat. Getting a perfect surf wake takes a bit of operator effort on every boat in the land. Nobody has a turnkey, idiot proof surf boat.

They all work fine in factory form, and will need weight if you want them to be killer. Not unique to the Max by any stretch.

Invite ten adults out every trip and your wave will be great! Trying to surf with just a couple people in the boat, add additional ballast to compensate. Easy math equation. The Max is a fantastic boat. Enjoy.

Get the BIGGEST bags that fit in the rear and make sure it has the front/center ballast as well.

As other people have said, going out with 2-3 people on the boat and expecting Waimea sized waves is going to disappoint you. Get a crew of 6-7+ people and it will be amazing.

Okay...

1.So I have the Wakemaker ballast upgrade for my LSV. Can I use those bags (910lb) and plug them in Series with MAX ballast? My new boat lift is 6000lb capacity. I don't want to put a 1000lbs of lead in the boat, and break my back taking it out so I dont kill my new lift. I would rater spend my time packing out old beer cans. :)

2. I not excited about having larger ballast bags out in the open either. It was acceptable when I was younger, but not now. I use a midship center bag in the LSV due to necessity. If I have to do the same thing in a MAX, I will lose one of the main reasons I am upgrading my boat.

3. Do you surf the Max Bow high? What about bow weight?

KnoxMojo
01-20-2019, 02:50 PM
You're over thinking all this dude. Do what just about every other Max owner has done, install enzos or get a couple of 400s for under your side seats and a pump. You won't have anything out in the open. Get a couple hundred in lead, place that evenly mid ship but hidden away. Then let the good times roll.

TXSurf4

There are 2 really good threads on here talking about setting up the Max’s ballast for a great wave. You should definitely check them out. I am not sure how to link them from my phone but they are “Max Surf Settings??” and “Moomba Max Ballast Questions”. They have a lot of good info on there and it seems you can do everything hidden under seats and link them all to the original pumps so you won’t have anything on the floor or need any external pumps.

Boonejeepin also links a video he put up on YouTube that shows him surfing his wave after he upgraded his ballast. It looks sweet!

Enzo bags for sure. Those 900’s are nothing for a Max. You did see how MASSIVE the rear lockers are right? Probably twice the depth if not more of the LSV.

What are the rough dimensions on those 910 bags? I fit 20x20x45 (720#s) in my midships just fine, essentially plug and play (just buy some hose and quick connects and y pieces to piggy back onto the rear vent line). I would try using the bags you have and just not fill them entirely, although I believe Boonejeepin has 900# bags in his midships.

Then just add 250 of lead in the very tip of the bow (useless space anyway).

Do that and your wave will be awesome (Surf 16ft back in the wash all day) with just a driver in the boat.

All with just a driver, all first year surfers, and all running between 11.4-11.6 mph to mellow the wave steepness size. When I do have additional people ballast I don’t fill bags all the way or I run at nearly 12mph. It’s a blast and makes for a very firm and long wave.

Here is my install. In a 2019 max you shouldn’t have to even drill the holes between the midship and rear bags. Also, don’t bother doing what I did and run a fill his from the pumps to midships, people doing it just fine with piggy backing off the rears with 1” lines. All done by myself, a below average shade tree mechanic. Feel free to PM if you have questions that I might be able to shed some light on, like If you need better pictures of installed bags....I had some that I sent to z28 but can’t seem to find what I did with those.

I'm right there with ya, gray and black. I figure if the seats are hot, people will get in the water more  lol

The amount of black and where you have it located will not be an issue for heat. That Interior looks great!!!!

Thanks! Love the look of the blue deck/interior with the solid grays and black. Hopefully I’ll get a glimpse of the interior if they have any of it together on Tuesday for our plant tour.

If you are dead set on the dark color interior, it’s nothing some towels can’t fix.

But it will get plenty hot enough to burn skin for the unwarned.

In our area, it gets hot, but not like Dallas TX or AZ hot. I think I should be ok, but will review dealer swatches again. Its a bit freaky to even decided. I would be sick if the boat showed up and it looked like shit.

This one has less black than the last one Flienlow posted...not sure where Flienlow lives, but all the black he has on the interior in TX would be a ass burner. No matter how diligent you are with putting towels down they get moved you have a few beers sit down and wham bare back or ass or leg on that black and you are jumping straight up.

Here is mine, I was able to put the black accents in the vertical (doesn’t get as direct sun load) as well as the vertical black is very recessed.

The horizontal black is far enough back that your legs don’t hit it, or at least you have a bathing suit on.

Just my silver vinyl panels get hot enough to fry eggs and I’m in MI! I would NEVER get any black vinyl.

FOWL! As we all know...Pre-Stereo Photo's don't count. :)

From the online configuration tool I am having difficulty making this boat interior look good. The Max is a fat girl in every way. It seems to make it "Pop" I need to go darker on interior otherwise it look rather bland.

Here are some real life pics of interior https://premierboating.com/product/2019-moomba-max/ ( need to a scroll a few to the right.) the only difference would be Platinum deck vs the white one shown.

Not sure the color name but even the dark gray (primary color) on mine is hot enough to light a cigarette off as I’ve said in the past. My last Moomba was white which was a major pain to keep clean with the muddy water around here, so I wouldn’t change it. When we are underway it cools off quickly btw.
