View Full Version : All the car guys... let’s stop stealing boat threads lol

I guess we can make this a dedicated motor head spot since there seems to be plenty of us. Imagine that, boat guys like go fast toys too...

So my collection is growing. As y’all saw in the ‘Bu thread, just picked up a pretty nasty built and cammed 4th gen MM6 WS6. I had a hand in building this thing years ago with my buddy.
Built factory 241 heads, TSP Torquer V3 (the most hated LS cam ever, but it sounds soooo good), monster stage 2 clutch with lightweight flywheel, fully built 10 bolt (still a joke) with an ultimate 10 kit tube braces and fully welded axle tubes. 3.90’s and truetrac.
It’s been a driver it’s whole life, 173k when I bought it, still has the factory u joints in the driveshaft. Lol
Full BMR and UMI suspension, all kinds of goodies under it.
It’s a blast to drive, but it smoked the pilot bearing and developed a high rpm 3-4 gear vibration. So the T56 is out and headed to be rebuilt one of these days. Back in the Cummins full time. Lol

My uncles 3rd gen IROC I acquired, it’s tucked back away in his hangar for the time being. I just flat out don’t have time. And I need a lift... I’m getting to old to be rolling around in my back anymore. That stuffs for the birds.

2010 CTS-V 6speed Manual

Tore into it at 3000 miles.

Cam, pullies, long tubes, ported supercharger, ported LS7 throttle body, CAI, significant HX system upgrades.

Dynos on a dynojet 679whp/662wtq SAE

Added a carbon fiber hood.

Car is nice weather only and at 8 years of ownership has 32k miles

I have built 15-20 gen 2 CTS-V’s and ZL1’s with the LSA for friends and customers. I enjoy wrenching on the side and hooked up with one of the best tuners in the country.

Love that ride - Black CTS-V. I want to get one in the next few years. Got a few other things to knock out first.

Local tuner or do you have to haul it?

Local Detroit tuner, actually worked for GM and developed the stock tuning for the 2009 CTSV and ZR1.

Dude... that thing is sick. It’s hard to wrong with a black V.
What cam did you go with under that LSA?

Lindsay has been eyeing the ATS V... that’s gonna lead to nothing but trouble and an empty wallet. But it could be fun.

I’m just ready to have a fun driver again. The 3rd gen is gonna be the dedicated track toy. Sure wish I could get me n my brothers shop up n going soon so I could use some of it as a write off! Lol

224/236 115lsa .581/.602

It is 0 overlap and works with a manual , an automatic would not like it.

Mild lump idle but smooth, still drives like stock until you lean into it.

Drove full time on drag radials on the street for 15k miles. Could dead hook.

But went back to street tires now and much prefer the handling of this sedan.

It’s an amazing car and my racing days are over.

Nice, I have a lunati 230/236 .555/.555 on a 114 in my old school lt1 (supercharged 93 Z28 I’ve owned since october 99 when I was a senior in high school ). I’ll have to post up some pics and a list of mods since there’s a 4th gen guy in the house!!!

Assume it was a manual or a higher stall converter? + 5 overlap probably helped you bleed off boost with a 10.5-1 compression ratio.

Its manual (t56). When I put the cam in back around 2004 I spec’d it for nitrous since I had previously been running a 175 shot on the stock motor (it was originally an automatic car so I did a 3200 stall, full exhaust, 3.73’s, drag radials, etc and was fairly high on the street racing ladder around here in the early 2000’s before everything got crazy fast - well I eventually got a street racing ticket so I decided to convert to manual to make it a fun car to drive).

So when I did the cam I had already swapped in the t56, and this was back when very few cam/bolt on lt1’s made over 350rwhp. Mine made 356!!!

I never sprayed it with the cam in it because I was having trouble with a solenoid, and found a good deal on a used vortech s-trim kit. Put that on around 2006 with a little methanol and she makes 488rwhp corrected and 523rwhp uncorrected in good air (best 1/4 mile trap speed is 125mph).

I figured the motor would have popped about 10 years ago since stock lt’s and boost don’t get along, but she’s still going strong lol. I’ve never even had the heads off the motor!

Of course over the years I’ve done a Strange 12-bolt rear (broken it twice on the track), Mcloud street twin clutch; and full BMR suspension.

It had 9,000 miles on it when I bought it in 1999, currently at 63,000 miles. I had it resprayed in the original medium patriot red metallic back about 9 years ago.

Do we have any Jeep guys in the house?

I bought this ‘82 cj7 about 6 years ago as a project. It barely ran, wouldn’t stop (almost wrecked it on a test drive), and the steering/suspension was looser than Ron Jeremy’s high school girlfriend. I had looked at a few previously that were rusted to hell, but this one had a solid body/frame to start with.

The most recent project was swapping out the tired carbureted 4.2L for a fuel injected 4.0HO from a 95 grand Cherokee I bought for $400 (transmission was shot but it ran good in reverse so I rolled the dice on it). I started on it last winter and finished a couple months ago. My projects slow down to a crawl when boating season hits lol

CJ’s are fun, done a few 7’s.

One was a SBC 350 conversion and all 3 were fiberglass tubs.

Always made good money on CJ’s, bought pieces of shit and sold them pretty done up.

I’ve been looking around for one, but holy hell theyre expensive.
I might just buy another white one and build it.

I like jeeps, but I could never own one. Just Empty Every Pocket. Lol
I built my first rock crawler in high school, and it spiraled outta control from there. I’m just now getting back into go fast toys. Off-road is fun, just time consuming.
My favorite was my crawler built out of a 84 K10 GMC. Bought a govt forestry truck as a donor, stole the corporate 14bolt and 60 front, and 205 Tcase. Lots of welding wire later... lol

Current fun car is a 2017 ATS-V that is quickly becoming an expensive hobby as I started autox and tracking it last fall after boating season. We have had a few fun cars in the past that last one was a Chevy SS that I dearly miss but the V fills 95% of it's shoes.

They have come way down in price used.

M3 killer no doubt. Back seat is useless even in a sedan at least for normal size adults.

The gen 2’s are also coming out which will drop gen1 prices even more. 2016’s in the mid to upper 30’s isn’t bad for a mid 70’s car.

Gen 2’s will be renamed CT3-V sedan and CT4-V coupe and the Gen 4 CTS-V will be renamed CT5-V

Here's the problem w/the newest gen mustangs.... the current design is SO good that it makes all previous iterations, at least back to the 70's, not attractive. lol
On the other hand, if you don't like the latest Gen Camaro (you're f'g crazy, it's HOT) you can still find 1st gens, 2nd gens, 3rd/4th gens (debatable) that still hold their own from a design (looks) perspective.

I'm about the least "brand loyal" guy you'll find. I accept the fact that some of you are, but I still don't understand it. I currently own 2 Chryslers (Jeep and Ram), a Chevy (3rd Gen IROC) and a Ford ('17 Mustang).

Out at Spring Mountain the instructors at the Cadillac V Performance school get the AST-V around the 1.2 mile track faster than the current gen CTS-V. With 10 turns they can't put the power to use. Im'm glad I leased mine thru a supported GM lease as the values have tanked. I think the value is due to pour marketing by Cadillac, many don't know of the car and think its a CTS-V even at Cars and Coffee.

Buyer beware on some of the 16 without roofs and PDR. They might have a branded title from being a track car at Spring Mountain.

What are your thoughts about the Toyota Supra? The onus is on Toyota to prove it's not a coupe version of the Z4. There is a lot of shared development with BMW, good and bad. The platform should be agile enough but likely Munich neurted steering feel.

The Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ held a lot of promise but never enough performance to make it a real contender.

I'd hold out until they at least offer a TRD version or if they get something from Gazoo Racing.

toyota will never be able to repeat the iconic status of the mk4 supra. like the chevy 350, the 2jz in the tuner community is one of the best motors ever built. liken it to the sr20/rb26, any honda b series and 4g63. best smaller motors ever built.

I drove a frs when shopping a few years ago. it was hands down the best handling car I have ever driven. much better than my old evo9. like a go cart. but coming out of corners it really needed an extra 120hp. the lotgirl trying to sell it to me kept saying how great the acceleration was. sooo much room over the boxer for a turbo and they didn't. another toyota fail.

rc, I bet money that we will see a trd but only suspension/body bits just like the frs/86. almost seems like with a co-development there's an agreement in place that neither can up the HP more than a few as it'll make the other's car not as attractive. if we do see a performance variant, bet it's the same specs and timing of an M series from bimmer.

man, you all need to come drive in vegas for a spell. when you register a car in nevada they require a vin check at an outpost building at the dmv. they take you into the office while the clerk does the inspection.
his routine is: check vin, remove all turn signal bulbs and recalibrate the speedo to read 55 when going 65 to encourage the traffic to move faster.

and everyone here wonders why we have some of the highest insurance rates in the US.

if you let insurance lapse here for 1 day- yes 1 day- automatic $750 fine and sr22 filing when you renew.

interesting they would display it as my first glance was a red bull sponsored car at an exxonmobile campus. I had to look again to find the mobile advert..

I'm probably the only tuner on here :D
This gets more miles on at the race track versus the street. 28138
And this is how I my work trailer, car, and boat get around 28139

don't say that too loud bwanner.
bought in '06 from south coast mitsu in cali. drove back to boise and 1k miles later ex wife came home to find the whole top end of the engine torn up installing a new cam. almost 500 crank hp when I sold it to buy a boat. was my second one. first was an '03 that I had vishnu tuned.
fun cars to say the least. I do miss her every once in a while.

Nice! Ive built 2 engines for mine already. I spun rod bearing #1 on road course due the shitty design of the oem oil pans. Mine is setup for road course with around 600whp, and I can happily say I beat a twin turbo audi r8, barely lol

I was all set up that all I needed was larger injectors and bigger turbo to hit 600. all the other supporting mods were done. I think it's a close race between the 2jz and 4g who builds the better "from the factory" bulletproof engine. it had a snow meth kit and do have to say that's the only part that really made me nervous. boostin 31psi and it runs out of spray things go boom pretty quick.
1/4 mile'ed it a halfdozen times. my first evo was an '03 evo8 that was vishnu tuned. I did a few autox events with it and did pretty good for a rookie but the 9 was a much better platform.
I wish I'd have kept her but the boat bug bit and car left for the supra.

That's a great point! I was in my modded 98 M3 and was beat off the line by an SRT Dodge Neon... At the end of the day, I was still in a convertible M3 with my hot wife sitting next to me and he was in a "fast neon". He won the race, but I win at life!!!

The RS3 is actually detuned for LMS because it’s beating the R8’s on track time lol
