Wanted to get thoughts on adding a surf pipe or not? Noise is not a concern but I do boat and surf with three young kids (youngest is 2). It’s not really something I want to add, but looking into strictly from a safety perspective. Do I need to worry about CO2 with the young kids? Thanks for the feedback!
Carbon Dioxide (co2) no, Carbon Monoxide (CO) yes, as its the deadly gas thats tastless, colorless and odorless. Get the OEM Surf Pipe or the aftermarket FAE

If you are surfing a lot, it’s not a bad idea. Fumes will be around the surf platform area at slow speeds and idle.
Tubing, wake boarding, and skiing, you are probably driving too fast for the fumes to congregate in one area. But it cannot hurt putting one one. Good stereo upgrade.

Agreed. It definitely is a must for eliminating that exhaust smell and the odorless, yet deadly CO fumes! Especially with little kids. Far too many stories of kids passing and and drowning from breathing in the exhaust fumes.
Also helps with the noise behind the boat. Inside the boat it’s still loud, but that’s because there isn’t any sound deadening around the engine really and the floor and hull act as a resonant chamber.

Thanks for the feedback. I get it and will likely have it added over the winter. Dealer wants $1300. I guess what I don’t understand (and I’ll clarify, I’m new to the surfing game) is if it such a safety issue, why is it not standard?

Not everyone surfs, that's why it isn't standard. Order the pipe from your dealer and install it yourself. Even the most basic skills person can do it in about an hour.

Dealer is quoting some serious labor charges ouch.
I think FAE is under $500 and it’s a simple bolt on design.
The factory Supra/moomba surf pipes are one piece and look awesome and I think a $750 option.
EDIT: Supra surf pipe $750 option, Moomba surf pipe is a $650 option, same pipe. [emoji23]
Supra 15% tax included lol.

Most of the OEM surf pipes ive come across, are thru=bolted at the flange. This makes it a 2 person job, and not an easy one.

I installed mine by myself but it would be easier with a second person for sure. The hardest part is when it comes to putting the pipe on through the hull and into the rubber exhaust hose.

^^agree with Stazi. My Makai was actually kind of a PITA. Pretty decent amount of knuckle skinning. Need help for sure during the slide hose over pipe stub while inserting it covered with 5200 phase. That’s not the easiest thing in the world. Then retighten several hose clamps.
Don’t forget, if you’re going to do it “right”, you will remove the small SS pipe section that contains the baffle and either knock it out or replace with new, non baffled pipe.
That part is also a bit of a project.
A helper is damn near a must if you want to keep the cussing down to a reasonable level.

I was into the aftermarket FAE from forum member Corvette for a little less than $500 I think. After going through install, I'd say the $650 from the factory is worth it. Definitely a 2 person job to tighten the machine screws on outside while holding the nut on the inside of the transom while mostly blind. Was a pain.

Vice grips.. Still sucks having to get in out of the boat but you can install it by yourself. Use one of the wood screws included in the kit to secure the exhaust while you tighten the thru bolts. Use a big screw driver and beat it between the hose and baffle to stretch the hose, makes it easier to remove and soapy water to reinstall.

It is almost impossible to get to the baffle in the newer Supra's. It sits under the engine to the cabin side and beside the ballast tanks. I ended up just beating mine out from the inside and calling it good. The 15 Mojo was about as simple as it could be from FAE. Remove flapper, install drain plug brace, 5200 supplied wood screws through factory locations and let it cure. I did it sitting on my paddleboard on the lift. The new non braced styles are indeed a bit harder, but still very much worth it.

It's a 2018 Mondo. The dealer has the boat for the winter, so I'm just going to have them install it.

Is the FAE the only option for a 2002 Outback LSV? Would like the added safety with younger kids.

If your reading about the stories of welds cracking and stuff like that, you don't have to worry about that on that model. It is a different design for that year and it just attaches to the outside of the exhaust. No drilling besides the support bracket that connects to the bottom of the swim platform.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200919/030681a428c1668b3d53cd77a19bc06e.jpg

Moomba absolutely offers a factory surf pipe for your boat. Perhaps your dealer is misinformed?

in this day and age, sure there are a lot of dealers telling people things are not available as the profits/hassles aren't worth their time. 10 years ago they would have gladly sold you whatever you wanted with a smile and a discount.
getting a factory unit from skiers choice could be a big deal as well. they know this and don't need or want the followup that will come.

I see FAE has options to mount it (aka drill) into the back of the boat, on the drain plug or the centre trim tab vs the platform bracket.
Any benefit to doing it this way over the platform mount? I read a few stories of bolt loosening up w the platform mount. Or is this not a thing?
I have a 13 LSV for the record
