front tracking fin is bent over flush with hull--is this thru bolted or just screwed in from the bottom--would like to know if the gas tank has to be removed -any advice would be appriciated if youve replaced one yourself

I replaced them on my direct drive Supra last year (so there was no fuel tank in the way). They were fastened with flat head machine screws from the bottom and nylon lock nuts inside and glued with 3M 5200 (or some other really gnarly stuff). They have used the exact same casting for decades (my 1986 has the exact same part number fin as my 2018 ), so you should be able to order that part from Skier's choice.

SC part number: 102820

Haven't replaced one but I'm so it's thru bolted like the strut. You'll know as soon as you try removing the bolts they'll probably spin.

They are thru-hull bolted. You’ll have to pull the fuel tank, which is actually quite simple. It’s also a good opportunity to scrub the bilge while it’s out.

Unscrew the two floor panels, pull up. Disconnect the fuel hoses and the tank will lift right out. You probably want to syphon out the fuel first.

It’s an easy job!

something about a keg being used as ballast.......

Sounds like a logical plan to me.

Well, you can't exactly recycle the beer back into the keg.
