Spark Plugs:
Motorcraft SP-526 (16 total)
Remove the Engine cover and side panels.
1. Remove the two bolts for the fuse box and move the fuse box to the center.
2. Remove the spark plug assembly bolts, one per spark plug on the top.
3. Disconnect the spark plus assembly buy pressing on the clip and remove, don't pull on the wires.
27612
Remove the EGR hose, pull outwards.
27613
Remove the spark plug assembly, pull straight up, then remove the spark plugs and install new.
27614

3. By moving the fuel line to the side you can remove the spark plug assembly.
27615

Replace the lower spark Plugs 8 plugs as normal

If you have these metal spark heat shields on the lower wires, they should be removed per indmar, use pliers to pull the rubber insert to remove, don't plug the wire. They slide off.

Hi,
Do you know the torque spec for re-installing the spark plugs?
Thanks in advance

Don’t over torque a spark plug in an aluminum head.

Are new plugs required each year? I looked in the Indmar owner's manual and it doesn't say to replace them each year or to even inspect. On my previous Yamaha boat it was very finicky on spark plugs and it did not run great unless you had near pristine/new plugs so each season we replaced them. Do I need to do the same with the Raptor?

I just realized the 300 hours column is also the annual so I guess replace them each year? How long do you guys generally go before replacing?

I replaced them at 600hours, I had a misfire check engine light from a bad spark wire. Made sense to replace everything.

The way I would interpret 300 hours or annually for spark plugs is if you do over 300 hours in a season, just wait and do it at the end of season.

I’m only at 40 hours so wondering if it’s a waste to even change them?

Absolutely should NOT change them at 40 hours.

You should have many more seasons at 40 hours for 1 year.
Manual @ 300 hours which is the same time as the fluid changes.

my dealer said not til after 300 hours and if it still runs good don't worry about it until it doesn't.
SorryCharlie

That's what my dealer said at 300 hours, you don't need to change the plugs. Of course, my dealer is pretty inept.

Don’t kill me for this question, but are there 16 total spark plugs that have to be changed? Is this thread about the ones that are the hard to find ones? I know about the eight on the bottom but didn’t realize there were 8 more. By the way I have a 2017 Supra SA450

Do you have a video or guide for the top ones?

The link parrothd shared still works. It's a Google photo link that shows the steps. Basically you have to unbolt the Ecm and it's bracket, a fuse box and the pcv valve. Then you can pull the tops.

Hey guys, what is the difference of the Indmar recommended Motocraft CYFS-12FP (597037-16 in manual) versus the Motocraft SP-526's? Are the heat ranges different or anything? Also what is with websites charging crazy amounts of money for the CYS-12FP plugs? I've seen anywhere from $250-600 lol. I go on Advance Auto website and they sell the CYFS-12FP plug for only $5.19 which it to $83 total. That's a fraction of the cost compared to boat-specific websites and stores.

The SP526 is identical to CYFS12FP
$61 is a great deal for 16 plugs

On both my Raptor engines at 300 hours, I have installed NGK Iridium plugs, both have ran like tops! It also helps I can get them at cost from a speed shop friend of mine.

Stock plugs are double platinum, iridium is a step higher in durability, maybe get you an extra 100-150hours
NGK 90117 iridiums can be found under $7

Anybody else find different plugs in your engine when you replaced them? My top plugs were a CYFS-12-NPG and the bottom plugs were a CYFS-12-F. I replaced them all with the manual specified SP-526 (CYFS-12-FP).

I jumped on a raptor truck forum and the mixing of upper and lower plugs seems common from Ford.
No reason behind it, not sure the difference from the f and npg, but if Ford does it from the factory it’s fine.

It has always ran great. Just seems odd that if they came with two different plugs that you wouldn’t replace with two different plugs.
russellsmojo….I didn’t replace the plug wires. I figured I may do that at 600 hrs.

Yep, I found this too. Replaced all 16 with SP-526 (CYFS-12-FP) and put 100 hours on it this season. I did notice an improvement in idle when I made the change.
I also kicked and cussed and and contorted my way in to change the fuel filter @ 300 hours. Not worth it. I cut the used filter apart and it barely does any filtering. Unless you suspect it's clogged, it's not worth the effort to change it - which requires loosening the starboard (drivers) side Cat and risking the V-band exhaust gasket.

Both good to know. I took the boat out last night and it ran just fine. I could not tell a difference at all. Fuel filter was next on my list….

Mine had different plugs top and bottom too. I’ve seen many have had this.
Fuel filter wasn’t too bad if you take the quick disconnect off on the top and down by the fuel pump and then snake it out. Definitely no loosening of cats or whatever else was described. By snaking it out it only was a one beer job. Interesting to hear about cutting it and it not being much of a filter.

Doing this job in 2 weeks as part of my year-end service and winterization.
Any reason to upgrade to Iridium over the 2x platinum from Motorcraft?
I can get both locally and price for NGK Iridium is $1 more. Worth it?

For $16 more sure. Iridiums will last longer, won’t get you anything more than longer service life.
Question is, will you go more than 300 hours if you install iridium’s?

Probably not longer. The boat is well past 300hrs now and I have no idea if the previous owner(s) ever had them serviced. Boat has ran great all season, just my peace of mind knowing there are replaced.
I'm not expecting any type of performance gains or some voodoo that improves to 10 GPH when surfing. But for $16.....just didn't know if it was worth it.

I changed all of mine out as my hours are unknown( stuck at 250 on hour meter) until dealer resets my hours on there. They werent burnt up or electrodes worn out but semed to show some good use. Leaves me the last 2 prohects which are the trans and v drive oils. I wouldn't bother with iridium plugs unless you got a smokin deal on them.

Thanks for the detailed instructions with the all important photos.
I have no mechanical skills but I'll do "easy" things like this if there are clear instructions with photos!
One less thing to tow into the dealer to do!
You saved me a lot of time and money.
Thanks!
