just like the title says..Anyone using "lead"?
If so , where do you put it. Where did you get it ? How much weight did you add ?
I have a 2017 Moomba Helix ,so if anyone with that boat would chime in, I would love to hear about feedback

thank you -G

Lead Wake is one option. See below. I like the lead bags as they are easy to move and take up less area than additional bags. Needless to say, you don’t have to screw around with filling extra bags also.

https://www.leadwake.com

You can add as much as you feel necessary, but I would say a min. of 250lbs so it would be like offsetting a person to one side. If you have and use Autowake add the weight closest you to the bag that stays 100% full.

I just re-read what I wrote. It sounds like I was drinking at the time. What I meant to say was I prefer the lead wake bags over extra water ballast bags. I.E. placing extra fat sacs on the floor or seat. The lead bags take up less room and are very easy to move around in 50lb increments.

Night and day difference with lead wake. I added 250lbs last week and I’m going to add another 300 or so wish I did it when I bought the boat. I got my lead wake from my dealer little cheaper then I could find online

Where does everybody “store” their lead weight when you’re not surfing or boarding. We do a little bit of everything, surfing, wake boarding, skiing, tubing, kneeboarding, etc. I am not sure where I would want an extra 500 lbs when I’m getting ready to pull tubes or worse a slalom skier. It would sure b welcome when it comes to surfing so I have contemplated buying some but again, I’m not sure where I would “store” it when not “using” it.

I leave my lead in the boat all the time. I have 100lbs in the bow, 100 lbs port midship, and 200 lbs starboard midship. I’ve stuffed the bags into crevices and nooks that don’t or wouldn’t work for storage.

All mine is on left side under the seats since everyone surfs that side another buddy has 200 pounds under each rear bag. And then has another 300 to move around the boat

You will want to add as much as you can to the rear side you are surfing. Then move it elsewhere when you are not. If you only have 250 lbs or so, I would move it up to the bow and store under the seats when the bags are empty. That would be the best spot for slalom skiing. In my case, that is also best for wakeboarding, because with Autowake it is always draining Some of the front ballast and I have to move people up there anyway.

Thanks, was hoping to find shots. Might have to drive to Niagara again and hop across the border for a pickup.

Martin Motors carries lead wake. They got some in this week but only had a few left in Edmonton. I don’t know about their Calgary location.

Thread revival-

So basically spreading the extra lead around the boat, forward or nooks and unusable storage areas, keep it balanced when not in use. I can see that for 2-300 lbs, not a big deal. But what about you guys toting around an extra 500-1,000lbs?

How about when you are trailering - where does the lead ride?

When trailering, I put the lead over the axles midship.

guess it depends on how far you go to the ramp and where you put the lead. we only trailer 10 or so miles to the ramp with almost zero traffic going there since it's in a national park and since our boat runs evenly weighted not listed I leave our 800lbs in place. 300 under each rear bag and 200 in the center cooler that we don't use. it's still below the weight limit for the trailer by a few hundred and never have had the combo weighed to see any effects on the hitch weight.

if we were going to take a trip to powell or havasu, I would, as Larry suggests, move all of it around for better placement.

We tow anywhere from 1 hour to 6 hours to our destinations. Catch is I've had bad luck with blow outs on the highway for a few years in a row. I'm not over the trailer / tire limit (or tire age) but don't feel like pushing my luck either.

To level my truck when I go over 100 miles, I throw the bow bags into the floor of the back seat of my truck, keep the remainder over the trailer axles and in the rear lockers. Helps with handling.

My boat was dead empty when I took it to get winterized, and somehow a crossmember of the trailer got bent. There were a couple of rough highways I traveled at night, but I have no idea how anything would have hit that high.

After that I’ll be more cautious on rough roads.
