Took 2 wonderful families out on a demo with the MAX yesterday. Not the coolest trick but I did manage to ride out a transfer my 4th try. At the end of the day I had to stop and capture this picture. Utah never disappoints...

And this

To get to this. Learned that the drone "Return Home" on a low battery isn't a good idea when you're motoring around all over and it decides to take off and then go for a swim.

No idea what he was trying to pull off here.

We have a MASSIVE fire close and it helps with sunrise and set pictures. Problem is over 90 structures have been burned during this fire and still not contained and burning out of control.

Well, that is not cool. Hope they get that under control. I thought it was just a really sweet sunset with clouds. Didn’t realize it was smoke.

It's clouds but the smoke gives us the color. More info on the UTAH FIRE (https://www.ksl.com/?sid=46355812&nid=148&title=dollar-ridge-fire-burns-47k-acres-1100-evacuated-us-40-remains-closed).

We got in a little of each over the 4th ... tubing, wakeboarding, surfing. Super happy with how the Mojo swapped between the different activities as well as switching back and forth from regular to goofy when surfing.

Taught 2 kids under 10 how to wakeboard and 2 adults over 30 how to surf.

We picked up our first new boat on June 29th, it had been a super stressful time dealing with insurance on our other boat and it all happend in time to save our 4th of July week long vacation. We are still dialing in the wave but this boat has so much potential. After the water test the boat had 2 hours on it and we were off for a week.. I wont mention how many we have now :) 9 killer days of surfing with great friends and family

Same here... my wife wanted green, I wanted purple. We went to check out our SA in person and fell in love instantly. Dunno what it is about that color...
That’s the first max I’ve seen with it. It really hides the bulkiness when it’s sitting in the water. I’m a fan!

Unedited clip from our last trip. Probably could have done a better job of tidying up and puling in ropes but this was supposed to be a test run prior to actual shooting. Unfortunately the drone decided to "return home" on a low battery to about 100yards away from where we were at the end of the clip. I was butterfingers with the Cancel command and so it flew back to where we started and gracefully dunked itself into the river. I think the camera is fried but the rest of it - well, it still flies.

Blue is a good compromise haha. A friend of ours ordered his and it is the blue flake but white top and bottom. I really wish we could have gone white because that black is PITA especially on top with peoples finger prints and sun screen on arms. But at least we got a boat, and black does look better, just hard to keep clean.

We typically go to Lucky Peak, do you like arrow rock more? Springs Shores can get to be a s**tshow on the weekends

Sent from my SM-G965U1 using Tapatalk

You just nailed it... too many people, stupid ones at that, no clear water, and cops. We like arrow and are there most weekends. I take the toy hauler and my husband takes the boat and you have lake front property. You can usually get out of the wind and away from most boats. I might be biased but it seems like people have more boat etiquette up there as well.

One big issue if your not familiar with the lake, is there are hidden dangers under the water.. I have been up there my whole life and owned a boat for 15 years and I totaled our boat a few weeks ago. I was devastated but you really have to pay attention up there. Now is a good time to go because most of the big ones are out of the water and you can take notes. Or go with someone who can show you where to watch, even I hit something I knew was there. It was really embarrassing. There is one more shelf that hasn't come out yet and its just past the boat ramp on your right and one on the left that you have to watch for.

One other thing is most of the time you can launch on the beach before it gets muddy, no people to deal with. We only go to lucky after work. Arrow or Anderson are my favorite

Can't ski before 10? That is insane not to be able to ski that kind of glass! I take it that is an actual law of the lake?

larry_arizona
07-15-2018, 04:20 PM
Damn fishermen rules.

Owned a cottage on a lake in Michigan for 18 years, we could not change the no wake until 11am rule.

Then in the winter the ice fishermen would Swiss cheese the lake and purposely pull their blocks of ice on top of the ice to create hazards for snowmobilers.

The twist to the law was “boat could not be on plane”

Wake Surfing technically would not break that law.

good chunk of the lakes in the upper midwest are this way. 10-6 are the "recreation" times. before and after it's all about fishing in the morning and booze cruise in the evening.
about 6:05pm you will see all the tooners start leaving the docks full of people with cocktails in hand.

I found this in the lake yesterday, while I was running across the lake at 18 mph. Luckily I had my knife with me to cut it off the prop no damage to prop or shaft. The Moomba jam is to close to be having the boat in the shop.

That's absolutely ridiculous. Make that another reason I have zero desire to visit much less move to the Midwest.

I remember having words with a fisherman in a slough that was one of the only parts smooth enough to ski. When I went in there, there were only a couple fishing boats. By the time I'd made a pass, they'd come out of the woodwork and it was crowded. I skied from end to end and dropped. And then waiting in the water until the little fishing boat trolled out of my line. He was within earshot so I said hi while floating in the water. He responded "it much be kinda hard to ski in here with people trying to fish." I of course responded "it must be hard to fish here with people trying to ski. I need smooth water, you don't".

WA says that we can play on the water an hour before sunrise to an hour after sunset. OR is Sunrise to Sunset. So there.

WA says that we can play on the water an hour before sunrise to an hour after sunset. OR is Sunrise to Sunset. So there.

Uhhhhh—-pretty inflammatory Midwest statement, don’t you think? [emoji848][emoji847]

And the water color.... Am I the only one infatuated here? Our mountain lakes are usually pretty clean and clear but that practically looks tropical.

I live in Ohio and I have been boating for 31 years here, Kentucky and Tennessee. Never heard of that rule in my life. Don’t think it truly applies to the “Midwest”.

90 degree weather in Portland means both Saturday and Sunday on the water!!!

This weekend I took my first attempts at riding the foil board with the surf wave. (ignore the song choice as I didn't even realize my son's playlist was still going) It's even harder than foiling at wakeboard length. and the crashes are wicked. My advice is to curl up in a ball and pray!!!

I'm just trying to help them out! LOL. We get SO many people moving to Portland and SW WA that it's killing our housing costs up here. We get sick of seeing CA plates on cars. I'm sure there's plenty good about the midwest. :-PPPPPP

I guess I should throw out there that KY and TN are not midwestern states, but we Boat in Indiana also, and never had that rule.

Thanks Steve. right now I have 4450lbs. My goal is to get to 5k.

bergermaister, This is an incredible lake to boat on. The colour alone is amazing and it changes depending what area you are in. Its also known as the lake of many colours. Water temp this week was 78 so it was fun for everyone. Theres a couple of rope swings and there is cliff jumping from 5 - 40 ft.

Pretty sure it’s not us midwesterners moving out to Portland. We’re pretty satisfied with home out here in the sticks for the most part. Lotsa folks leave and end up coming back amazingly enough. Our winters suck ass but the culture is rock solid.

It’s not a state law in Michigan but can be a lake association rule enforced by Marine police.

Keep in mind that jet skis and wake boats are the bane of most lakes.

Had a great crew Sunday and Monday. We put over 20 hours on the boat! Surfed a solid 12 hours Sunday, 2full tanks of gas between both days. It was amazing. Wave was kicking! I still have yet to ride out a 360 this year, I’ve been taking some hard hits trying. Had the board try and land on me yesterday, I landed on the board once and thought I broke my wrist, and the best is the included pictures... lol
I thought I had it, but the Doomswell has a different idea and kept rotating and caught the heel edge sending me straight to my shoulders and neck. Lmao

Is that your boat, or you broke it in for someone else? I am wish the factory or dealer had an option to have the boats pre-broke in before taking delivery. 10 hrs is a long time to break in a boat before you are supposed to fully load it with ballast. I would have certainly paid someone to do that for me. It would be even nicer to wrap that cost into the loan.

After break in the sit and hang out becomes very limited.

Now that is good stuff! Maybe that would have kept my attention during the break in period! I am glad to see some dealers break in boats. I could see enjoying it if you live in a warm climate, but there is not much fun (at least for me) about riding around in 55 degree weather on a small lake where you have seen it all, and not being able to Wakeboard or surf. I darn sure didn’t need 10 hours to figure out the controls on the Moomba, and you can’t dial in the wave until you load it up....which is after the break in.

Saturday you couldn’t find a parking spot how many people were there. Ended parking the boat and trailer damn near in the woods. Sunday was awesome had a nice private cove till two axis came in and tubed then two Malibu’s came in wakeboarding.

So maybe they're more like pesky flies?) Lice aren't even really visible but itch. That doesn't seem like a good analogy. Roaches scatter when the lights turn on and never seem to die. Not sure that really fits.

All I know is that waverunners follow my wake around and buzz all around me.

just ended a non-vacation run where I've been on the water 7 out of 9 days.

Of course the wife got lots of surfing in.

We had a bright moon and a 360 degree sunset with colors in the East.

Jumped on a friend's boat on Wednesday and we were out until dark. It's always cool cruising PDX at night. (and really exciting when you're doing 38mph through downtown with it still 80 degrees out).

Went out to the Sandbar on the Columbia River Saturday for a friend's birthday. They have a 26' cabin cruiser and brought out gear for a DJ setup on the beach. I let them use my generator and they had the full mixing board, turntables, and big concert speakers.

I linked up with them so they were broadcasting to my boat via the Wetsounds wireless link. We definitely exceeded the 100 foot range (more like 50 yards) and the look on people's face when they realized that my system and the DJ on the beach were playing the same music was priceless.

Because of the distance involved and the speed that sound travels, there was a sweet spot halfway between the DJ and my boat where the music was perfectly in sync and you were surrounded by tunes.

And if you look closely at 0:08 seconds and again at 0:29 seconds, you can see my friend's boat with their floating swan and beer pong tables setup in the water. LOL. Actually it's the cover image for the youtube video too!

Sunday evening we went out and I actually FINALLY nailed my first 360 that I was able to ride out. It felt so good to have accomplished it. And on my Doomswell Nubstep even. No skim boards here. (okay, they didn't get a pic of me doing the 360, but I still thought this was a cool shot)
https://i.imgur.com/D13ygQE.jpg

Then we were chillin' on the river and a couple guys on a barge that was docked at the shore hollered at us.... "Do you want Ice Cream?"
I was confused and not sure I heard them right. "Ice Cream?" I shouted back at them. Sure enough they gave the 4 of us in the boat some tasty ice cream drumsticks when we nosed up to the barge! That was awesome!
https://i.imgur.com/n7xIlk1.jpg

And then caught the sunset behind us as we drove home.

Yeah of course. I've NEVER heard that comment before. *flipoff*. My wife was driving and my 12 year old was in the boat. I've been trying all summer with a handful of completed rotations but not riding it out, so figures no one was taking video. I've gotten bored with the same gopro vids of me surfing (because really what all that 'new' happens with surf sets at our level these days???)

I know I did it, and it was super rad to be able to share in the moment with my wife and son who saw it also. That's all that matters. I'll do another one eventually, maybe that will be on video for you guys in the peanut gallery! LOL

BTW Berg, have you every been able to ride one out yet? I remember the "old guys 360" thread from years back! I'd assume you've nailed a few.

After 4,782 attempts over the last 6+ years - no. No joy.

The latest attempts this past weekend resulted in a lost pair of sunglasses and a slew of profanity that would make a sailor blush.

I've given up riding with my sunnies. I even have a pair of floating Bomber sunglasses as well as lots of disposable ones I have gotten at ski shows and the like. But I MUST MUST MUST have my surf hat. (foam trucker hat that floats is winning!)

It felt great, and hopefully will be repeatable. I even timed it perfectly to the music. the song was "Mic Drop" by Steve Aoki and I was surfing at the back of the wave as the intro was building and then nailed the 360 right at the drop! Yaaaaaasssss!!!

Had a good weekend on the water , had my brother and his wife out and got him in one a couple of surf sets. And got the oldest back on the board, after she watched her dad land 3 back to back she decided to try it again. Got in some more training too.

Still new to this forum thing. Not sure what I did there, but I had the same thing happen this weekend. Had 12 people on the boat this weekend, 5 of which were kids. Cameras and video was the last thing on anyone’s mind. I finally nailed a 360, after a year of trying and no one had a camera out. I almost got two in a row, but buried the nose. My wife at least got that on video. After that, the kids were starting to meltdown and I had to quit. Oh well, maybe in the August thread, I can post a clean video.

went out again this evening. Boat full of kids. Got some strides made on wakeboarding for 2 of them. My kid had a fun wakeboard session. I had a great wakeboard set throwing some tricks in front of our friend's boat. My buddy took a fun wake set. The wife surfed. Another kid got up and had a legit lineride. And then it was time for the last person to surf. I gave it throttle to pull her out of the hole and SNAP I had nothing. I thought I might have lost my prop??? But when we put on the dive goggles and took a look, we found the prop was against the rudder. Pulled the v-drive cover and saw that I'd snapped my shaft near the coupler. Damn.

The previous owner had a rock strike that did in the shaft, prop and required some hull repair about a year before I bought it. But it was all repaired at his Moomba dealer under insurance.

Hadn't hit anything. prop was in good shape visually. Didn't have any noticeable vibrations. I'm pretty sure my prop shaft coupler nuts were tight (I'd checked them within the last month or two). However, I'd never done my own shaft alignment and this is my 4th summer with the boat. (I've never done it on this boat but did it on my last one). Anyway, I'll be getting it fixed ASAP. But it's been the summer of breakdowns. Luckily the prop shaft specialty shop is 50 miles from home. I'll be calling them in the morning.

Seen a LOT of towing in pictures this season and people still sitting in the bow. I've seen a rope snap from towing at low speeds and could have taken somebody's head off. Hell either vessel and the rope breaks could be VERY bad.

That's some good insight Josh.

FWIW, I use a 10mm rock/ice climbing rope as my anchor and "tow" line. It's incredibly stronger than the crap that most marine stores sell for this purpose. WAY stronger than ski or tube lines. Think of it like your spectra wakeboard line, but 10mm thick! And my attachment to the bow loop was with a rock climbing D-ring carabiner that's rated at 29 KN.

I'm not saying sh** can't happen. But I do use gear that is way stronger than most people have in their boats.

I ride with just the big two fins on my board. They are the John John Grom fins, which are a little looser and faster than the F2 and f3 fins I used to ride. Yep, I've been working it with the bigs fins still in place.
