Since I started using a surf gate and loading up twice as much ballast (3500-400lbs). Boat seems to struggle to maintain surf speed. And a harder time getting there. I have the original prop now. I know I should go down in pitch but not sure what pitch to buy. Any thoughts ?? Cheers. Jason.

What boat do you have?

2008 XLV. With upgraded ballast. I think the prop I have is an OJ 14.25 / 17.25

Wow. That’s a lot of pitch. Someone was selling a stock 14.25x14.5” prop from a Craz. This would definitely be a move int the right direction.

Ok. Thx. Are the shafts the same? Will a prop off a newer moomba fit?

Yes they are both 1-1/8” shafts with left hand rotation.

In another thread an XLV owner found that the ACME 1847 was the best prop for his heavily loaded XLV.

This is worth a read.

Based on this recommendation I went with the 2315 for my ‘07 LSV. My bag capacity is 4k lbs of ballast but I’m probably getting 3500lbs +/- . I went from a 1433 to the 2315 and dropped 400RPMs at surf speed. Yes you will likely need to shim your prop but it takes half the time it does to change the prop and is $25 shipped from boatmate (or make your own for less than $10)

At the very least call Acme directly. Then call Delta Prop or Nettles to buy it.

Shim the prop? How, it’s one tapered mount??? First I’m hearing of someone doing this. Please elaborate.

Look in the outlet section on Wakemakers, that where I got my 1617 for my LSV.
