I've found a great solution to replacing the recessed Aerware remote at the helm for boat models that have it mounted on the dash panel. The issue of course is when removing the factory remote, you're left with a molded oval shape in the surface of the dash.

Fusion's remotes nearly a perfect solution. It has the same proportions as the oval, but bigger so that it covers not only the existing hole, but also 99% of the dash contour.

Fusion really nails the user interface... Only a few large buttons with no small labels that distract from driving, and the multi control wheel makes for fast volume adjustments and muting.

Pardon the lousy pic of the head unit. It requires the optional DIN sleeve, and even with that, it's a bit tricky to install it just right. The factory hole is just a few millimeters taller than it should be as it was not very precisely cut. Attaching the back of the radio with a strap to the inside of the dash helps with this.

A few more details for searching benefit. The remote I removed was a Kenwood KCA-RC50MR.

27110

The headunit is the Fusion ra70i.
The remote is the Fusion nrx200i.

I had to set up a NMEA 2000 network to get these running. The only 2 things not included between the head unit and the remote to make them work were a NMEA 2000 power cable (connects to a 12V supply linked to the amps + ground) and a NMEA 2000 tee for the power cable to tie into the backbone. All other network wiring was included. Another really nice benefit with this setup is that I have all operational control of the head unit at the remote, including power on/off. One nitpicky thing I don't like is that while the head unit dims with the navigation lights on, the remote does not, though the remote can be dimmed or set to auto dim after a set period of time.

Worth clarifying, Fusion makes two (2) RA-70 models. One has an "N" on the end, to denote it supports N2K (with additional backbone harness) and the plane RA-70, which cannot support N2K, which is the network needed for the wired remotes.

Would hate to see someone buy the wrong one, not realizing they needed the "N" model

Oops! Yes, that's a very important distinction. I bought mine last fall and forgot about that detail. Good call out!

Now, how do I edit my post to change it?
