Welcome too the forum and congrats on the boat. Which SA did you end up going with 400,450 or the big boy 575 hp

I opted for the 400. $6200 for 27 ft lbs of torque is nuts.

Would have loved a GM 6.2L LSA because I am an avid Cadillac CTSV owner and forum moderator. But Ford 6.2l it is.

I tell you this though you wonít be disappointed with that raptor motor itís made me a believer to the point if my Ram was ever totaled out Iíd consider getting a ford. Great power great torque. From what I heard as well the extra 27 isnít worth it especially how much more fuel it drinks.

Ctsv wagon!?

Ctsv wagon!?

CtsV sedan, but a manual with 700+ rwhp.

Although the unicorn manual V wagons are awesome.

Raptor 400 vs 440 was disappointing to know itís a tune only difference.

I did add the 2775 prop, but curious why there are no bolt on modifications for the raptors.

Cold air intakes and ported throttle bodies should be a no brainer or is there simply no interest on a wake boat?

There was one person that wanted to tune their 400 to the 450 but that thread died down. Think that guy was running 5000 lbs of ballast and had trouble getting on plane. You know how the horsepower world is deepest pockets make the most power. Iím sure thereís gotta be someone out there that can crack that ecm free up some power and you could always get the supercharger for it and port and polish everything or buy that motor thatís in the classifieds and youíll have a spare to play with.

Been modding cars for years, and there is always safe power left on the table.

Not too much available to bolt on the F150 Raptor 6.2L that translates to the Marine application.

The issue I believe is the indmar ECM is not a Ford ECM and indmar has the ECM locked.

When I get my boat trust me, I will be looking into it.

Only thing I have found is a BBK 85mm throttle body. Stock is a 80mm. Should be plug and play and work 10hp and 10-15ft lbs peak and similar midrange gains on stock tune.

Lot of folks on here are worried about voiding a warranty on a 100k plus item and won't touch anything.

I knew a guy in high school that turned 18 and went out and bought a brand new camaro. His dad owned a speed supply shop. Before he made his first payment he pulled the motor out of that thing and went to work on it. It was shocking to some of us but he knew he was going to make it better.

Congrats on the new Supra! Post up some pics when she arrives.

^^^ This.
Plus, there's a point of diminishing returns on these boats. They're not go-fast boats and there's only so much "hole shot" needed to pull up a rider. Think of it more like a fancy tractor.

Spend your time and $$$ on other niceties like sound system.

My CTSV had 3000 Miles on it when I tore into it.

Cam
Supercharger porting
Upper and lower pullies
Long tube headers
Ported heads
Injectors
CAI
Etc

Just my nature.

But I will see if the boat needs anything else.

2775 prop should get it done.

Based on what I've heard, Indmar keeps the ECU for the 440 locked up tighter than my prom date's parents kept her. I heard a story where someone had a dead ECU and indmar hand delivered it to the dealer after verifying the VIN and made sure they left with the dead one.

That said, you can accomplish a LOT with the right prop (think of it as equivalant to a re-gear rather than boosing HP).

Again, it's really about how quickly and easily you can get on plane with the boat really loaded down. How important is that? For wakeboarding only if you're running tons of ballast and want monster wakeboard wakes. (are your riders really that good that they want/need that?). For surfing everyone wants the biggest and best waves to play on. With the launch control on the new boats, getting on plane is really enhanced do you'd be kinda pissing away money spending too much on engine mods...

Don't get me wrong, I have a supercharged 3.0 in my Audi and I just pulled the trigger today on a piggyback tune that will give me 50+ WHP gains. And I have bolt on mods on my M3 that have brought it from 240 to 290hp. (as you can tell, I'm way more into Euros than American muscle. But the wife drives a Ecoboost F150 on 35's so we do have a little domestic at our place).

Boats are fantastic because there are so many areas to mod. LED's, Stereo systems, and of course all the stuff to make the ballast system and wake better (although your ballast system is probably golden out of the box on a new boat). Wake boats are the perfect combo of gearhead + Audiophile + Athlete + Social.

Enjoy and post some pics of the new arrival.

A throttle body would bump it 10-15hp and 10-15 ft lbs in the mid and peak RPM range.

About 1/2 of the 440 tune for 1/10th the cost.

ECM and Tune would be untouched. I have never seen a bigger or ported TB void a factory power train warranty. Just saying.

My SA was ordered with the full JBL sound system but I opted for only two 8.8 JBL tower speakers, are adding 2 more JBL 8.8ís simply plug and play or is a new amp required?

Depends on which amp they put in there only running 2. The 4 run off of a JL800/8. If you get that amp you’ll be fine to add another set.

Says in the brochure that only a 6 channel amp is available on the SA and 2 or 4 tower speakers are optional.

You are in the right place. The other forum is mostly older Supra models.

Not too much on the new Raptors and engine mods on any of the wake boat forums. But you may breathe some life back into that conversation.

Comes down to warranty, arguing with your dealer on a 100k+ machine if something goes south.

It's been awhile since I've read the fine print on the warranty materials.

Other down fall is you never really now what HP gains you made, unless you pulled the engine and ran it on a dyno. Unless they make a super throw down underwater dyno that hooks up too the prop shaft.

Agree itís tough to dyno a boat, but mph would show top end gains and throttle response and drive ability are other benefits.

80mm throttle body for a 6.2l is tiny.

More air and the fuel trims will add more fuel, and that is known power.

If tune is unaltered from stock it wonít void warranty.

If proven to cause an engine failure sure it should void the power train warranty, but bow to stern warranty would be unaffected

Adding air and fuel won’t change top end mph at the limiter. Only way to tell gains of hp/tq gains would be the time reduction to get to the top mph. Prop is the same as gearing with a manual trans in a car since we’re just using a gear driven trans and v drive. And that’s also assuming no prop cavitation/slip.

All your proposed changes, heads cam etc, wonít be beneficial to a wake boat. Higher flowing heads and cam will shift the peak torque higher in the power band. These modular ford motors nowadays (5.0, 6.2) donít need help up high. The heads can flow more than the motor can use. They can breathe like crazy, thatís why these things are so fuel efficient.
We need torque down low to get these heavy pigs outta the water when theyíre slammed.
Best thing would be to tune it. But that would involve some ingenuity. In another post a while back I told someone there are some shops here in Houston that are amazing ford tuners. You might be able to get them to do an on the water Ďstreet tuneí if they could crack the ECU. Iíd be game for that in a heartbeat.
Ideally itíd be awesome to have a whipple 2.3L bolted on top with a small duration blower cam on each head (since these are OHC modular motors) to generate that low rpm grunt.
Iím a long time Chevy/mopar push rod motor guy, it pains me to say the Raptors are a good choice in these boats. Lol

larry_arizona
05-05-2018, 07:06 AM
All great points and I understand that wake boats really donít need to shine at high RPMs.

Cams can be specíd to improve low and midrange power under the curve. But if the ECM canít be tuned then cams are out of the question.

I still see gains in a bigger throttle body down low and midrange as well. I will know more when I have the boat in hand.

Most of the automotive OEMís encrypt ECMís today, it typically takes some inside information to break the encryption.

I am fairly confident that indmar has their bases covered on the encryption and I donít think the demand is there to have a tuner unlock one. My understanding is itís not even a Ford style ECM.

Does anyone have pics of the ECM?

I have to tell you, I have an SE 450 with a 440 and I run 5100 pounds of ballastóplus fuel plus people. I have a 2775 prop. The last thing I think about is my boat needing more power. At 1300 feet of elevation my boat handles all of this load extremely easily and the best part, it does it on very reasonable fuel burn. Iím 100% satisfied. For what itís worth. For me, Itís all about adequate power, reasonable fuel burn, and reliability. The surfing experience is what I am after!

I have the black metal flake as the primary color on my SA and the flake in it is very subtle. It is nothing like the silver metal flake that to me screams 1977 Skeeter. You have to look at the black metal flake at the right angle in the sunlight to get the full effect of it.

This boat will look killer on the water no doubt.

So Iím guessing the boat only came with 1 800/8 amp? No, unfortunately not... youíll need an extra 800/8v2.
I canít believe supra did that! Everything is getting about half the rated power off one amp, if that. Also, it looks like thereís only 4 pairs of speaker wires for the in boat... you should have 6 jl 7.7ís in there right?
My boat came with 2 800/8ís, one for the in boats and sub, and one for the tower speakers. The towers need to be bridged to 4 channels on one amp to get optimum power if youíre gonna run 4.
Sorry, lots of questions on my end. Iím curious as to how they wired the in boat speakers since youíre only running one amp

No id bet that is a 400/4 dedicated to the towers.
The heavy gauge white wires bridged on Channel 7/8 on the 800/8 are gonna be your sub since you have 6 in boat speakers wired on 1-6. Mine was wired the same way, but with another 800/8 for the towers.
Easy way to tell, pull the RCA cables off the smaller amp and see what dies. I’d put a paycheck on the tower speakers.

The L31 5.7L is fairly torquey at 330 ft lbs at 2800 rpm, short of increasing the stroke of the engine to increase torque, I am sure that a torque specific camshaft could be specíd to increase torque.

Or

Throw a supercharger on it!!!!

I currently have a 2010 Cadillac CTSV with a built LSA 6.2l. Nothing makes torque like a supercharger.

Car is a 6 speed manual with making 700 hp and 680 ftlbs at the wheels (appx 800hp/775tq at the crank....stock was 560/551)

Look into the Ramjet cam for L31 5.7, will increase torque from idle to 4200 rpm

After some further research, it appears that the L31 marine engine already uses the ramjet 14097395 camshaft. That is a torquey cam.
