Just thought I would post some pics of my new surf platform. I used 1” HDPE with a rounded edge all the way around. Dimensions are 54”x24” with “b stock” hydroturf. I can’t wait to get out surfing this weekend!

Nice job, we are looking to redo ours as well. May try teak if we can find it for a good price. Have you surfed on it yet? We figure the stock platform is so wide that it cuts into the wave. Did you notice a difference?

Looks like you haven’t been out yet. I’d be interested to hear when you have.

I'd round those corners, sharp corners and boats don't mix.

No I haven’t surfed it yet but the basic designed is copied from others on here so I’m hoping it’ll be good. I’ll report back for sure.

I think they look a little sharper in the picture than they are, I smoothed them over with a flat file.

Good to see another one of those giant old platforms go into storage. I found it really did make a difference for me. We got a good increase on our wake, much taller but not as long. It was a good trade. I modeled mine from a Craz and made it a tiny bit more narrow. My wife was worried it was going to be too small which got me worrying. Turns out it is perfect.

I'm predicting that you're going to need to trim those corners down more. while it'll be good that you have a smooth bottom that doesn't dig into the wake, I'm thinking that your corners will still be in the wave. I had to trim mine down after the first test run. (I guess it depends on how much weight you and are how listed you are).

That said, it looks great and it's always easier to cut it down than to add material. so starting bigger with the possibility it'll need to be trimmed is wise. Just surf it and watch how much of your corner is still in the wave and take a good mental note of how much you'd want to trim off.

looks good. Just out of curiosity, how much does a 1in sheet of cost? I'm thinking of doing this soon.

Yea I definitely will keep an eye out, don’t have to run too listed with the suck gate so I’m hoping it works.

Cost was $130.00 for a 1”x24”x60” here locally plus I paid $45 for them to cut it to size, round and route the edges for me.

What type of business were you able to source the HDPE from? A plastics company?

Damn that's a good deal! I got mine from Interstate Plastics and paid at least twice that for the material.

I got the 1" thick thinking it won't sag vs. the 3/4". Much to my surprise in less than 1 year the 1" thick platform has started to sag. It hasn't sagged much, maybe 1/2" but for the extra cost I was disappointed. It looks like either thickness some support is necessary. I will probably order some right angle aluminum from McMaster and add a couple to the bottom. Maybe it isn't worth the extra money for 1"?

Parrothd - I found a thread from a while back that had your dimensions at 24”x54” so I kind of copied yours, did you end up cutting it down?

Yea I’m hoping the 1” won’t sag. I’m having a hard time seeing how you would support it with angle? I was think about possibly some 1/4”x 2” aluminum flat or something?

By attaching the angle across long way on the bottom between supports there will be a part that hangs down. That will support and keep it from bending. It is kind of like an "I" beam but missing a few pieces. An upside down "L"

I'm in Virginia but it sagged. While it was in the covered boat lift it was good all summer. When it sat in the sun on the trailer after being winterized it sagged within a couple of months. I wish I had made a cover for it.

Kine has been sitting outside uncovered for years. Maybe the type of hdpe makes a difference. Mine is marine grade.

You are probably right. I doubt mine was marine grade, damn. Well I am into it for too much money with HDPE and the Black Tip pad so I will just eat that mistake and try to put some aluminum under it.

Mine sagged a little also with 3/4, but not enough that anyone other than me would notice. and it hasn't gotten any worse.

If it hasn't gotten any worse I might hold off. It is on the lift and in the shade now.

Cool. I am with you though, I am probably the only one who will notice but in will bug me in the back of my mind. The trailer is parked where the back is at the top of a small hill. When looking at the stern the platform was exactly eye level because I stand down hill of it slightly. Otherwise I may not have noticed.
