Does anybody know if a dealer can reprogram a 400 to 440?

Why would you want to do that? It's only 25ish more foot pounds of torque and drinks the fuel faster. But the answer is no, a dealer can't flash your ecu to the 440 programming to my knowledge. You're better off running the hotter NGKix plugs for all 16 and prop for your needs.

The dealers are not able to install a 440 calibration in a 400 ECM. If you want a boat with a 440, you have to buy it that way.

I already have the biggest prop I can fit under the boat. When I’m fully loaded with ballast and lead I can’t get on plane for wake boarding. Not that I’m that good a wake boarding to need that much weight but if I could get it reprogrammed. I think that little extra would help push me over the hump. I was just curious if anyone had it done. My next boat will have the 575 in it.

The only way you’d probly get it done is to buy a 440 ECM somewhere. Are there boat junkyards? Lol
Or maybe (and this is a long shot) find you a small town boat mechanic shop and see if they can buy it (or the program flash) from Indmar. The only hiccup will be I’d bet Indmar will want the engine vin to stop people from doing that. Maybe you could sweet talk someone on here with a 440 into giving you their vin #’s?

If they redo the SE this year I’m just going to upgrade and get the 575 in it. LOL.

Cactus, how much weight are you running and where do you have it placed? What boat and prop currently? The biggest prop you can fit is not always the prop that you need.

I have a 2017 SA with Enzo sacs and 600 lbs of lead that I move around depending on where I need it. And 3 people and it will not come on plan fully loaded. I have a 15x11 prop. Wake makers don’t think the 15x10 will work on the 400 motor.

There are some pretty impressive Ford tuners in the Houston area. And Whipple makes a 2.9L headunit for the 6.2 motor... just saying. Lol it would be stump pulling SOB!
It wouldn’t be cheap, mainly since you’d have to do on the water tuning sessions if you could talk a shop into it, and IF they could break any Ford/Indmar encryption on the ECM. I highly doubt it’s any different than the trucks though.
Just remember, anything is possible if your pockets are deep enough! Lol how fast do you wanna go?!?

Bow weight helps, but I'm sure you know that. The OJ 945 is supposed to be a stump puller. It's a 15x13. My buddy on a new 23LSV runs Enzos, front tanks and a crew, and he can get on plane with that 945. Does your auto launch not help at all? I have a Mojo with the 400 and the acme 1235 prop running over 4000 pounds and can get on plain with no problems.

Just sell me 300# of that lead... problem solved! Lmao no seriously...

I wonder which prop I have? I know the build sheet from the boat says it got the high altitude prop. I’ve never crawled under to see what it actually is

It’s probably the 15x12.5 that’s what mine came with. I upgraded to the 15x11. I lost 2 mph WOT but that doesn’t matter to me. 34 is plenty fast.

I have to trick it by increasing the speed if not it will not get above 18 mph. But I’m running close to 5000 lbs in ballast weight. Now that I know that it helps. I’ll see how it does Thursday if the weather will cooperate.

I don’t think a 400 will get that up. I had a situation (same boat as you) where a friend cut herself surfing. I had less than 4K in ballast but 8 adults. We could not get on plane trying to get back to dock. We had people in the front etc no way. Had to drain.

My guess is 4,000 to 4,500 total people and ballast is where we could finally get on plane.

You might start at 4k then once up and running hit fill switches.

They're REAL protective over that 440 tune/ECU. My dealer was describing a deal where they had a 440 ECU go bad (or suspected bad) and someone from Indmar drove from TN to hand deliver one - but mostly he was there to MAKE SURE the old Ecu made it back in his hands.
