Hey there, tis the season for maintenance... Just checking to see what you guys use to change your oil if you do it yourself?

I remember seeing something that would pump / suck the oil out since you can't get under to drain. Is this what most use? Any products you recommend?

I'm looking to start doing a little more work myself if possible - save some $'s (260$ at dealer)- so I can repurpose the savings on surf gear of course... :D

pela 6000 oil pump. does a great job but does help to have the oil warm first.
suck it out, dump new oil in. replace filter and pocket the savings.

iirc the pela was around $50. it'll also do vdrive/tranny and if you like, your cars/trucks as well.

This thing rules, is easy to use, and will pay for itself in no time. I use it on my boat and several other small gas engines.

I still use one of these simple extractors every time for oil, trans fluid and v-drive oil. Works great.

I've been using one of these for 13 years now. Also use it on mowers & golf carts.

Make sure you actually drive the boat around to get the oil nice and hot. I did a late season oil change and didn't run the boat long enough. Needless to say it took a few days to suck it all out

My wife's Chevy Cruze had an oil plug with a tiny 10 mm head on it. Needless to say the oil lube professionals stripped it out so badly I couldn't get it out. So, for about a year I used the pump to change her oil as well. Then I got smart and waited till the car was good and hot and got on the flange with a vise grip and got it out. Glad to say the replacement plug has an 18 mm head.
