Just trying to get this Wakeboard thread going a little bit. I thought this may be a good topic.

My boat did not come with a stock ballast. I am running a 375LB Barefoot Industries Tube Sack under the rear seat. I also have 2 55LB sand bags under the rear seat, when the bag is full along with the sand it is a perfect fit. In the front Ski locker I have a Skylon Locker Sack. This is suppose to be 600LB. There is actually room for a longer sack but not really any taller. I also have 4 more sand bags that I usually place 2 in the rear storage compartment and the other 2 where ever needed to keep the wake clean. So my ballast total is about 1300LBS. I kept my setup hidden because I usually have a lot of people in the boat and I like it better when you do not have to walk over ballast bags. The size of the wake is much bigger than when I first bought the boat and had no ballast at all. The wake holds shape very well and the boat still performs great. I would like to make the setup a auto ballast in the future.

I have the tube sack under the rear seat, and unless we have friends in the boat that's the only extra weight. My wife prefers to slalom, so wieghing down the boat only helps one of us. I probably only use the tube sack about half the time, that probably explains why I can't seem to add a grab to my wake to wake 180's!

I have a '01 Mobius V and i'm running stock tanks full which i think are 250lbs each and 500lbs sack in the ski locker. I usually have 6 people on the boat so the wake is nice. I'm looking to replace the stock tanks with bags the ones i'm looking at are 400lbs each and putting a heavier bag in the ski locker probably a 1000lbs. Anyone have any ideas??

We normally use the stock ballast in our outback located in the floor ski locker and under the back seat they are so easy to fill and drain. This provides a very good wake at slower speeds. My son is 9 years old and jumping 1/2 to 3/4 quarters of the wake toe and heel side. When his coach rides we add a sack in the back ski locker and phat buddies on each side of the clam shell as far back as we can get them. He really likes the shape at his speed.

I have an '01 mobius v with wakeplate. Right now I have stock tanks which are 250lbs each and 600lb sack in the ski locker. I'm looking to upgrade to 400lb bags on each side and a 1000lb sack in the ski locker which should put out a sweet wake.

What sacks are you looking at getting? Fluid Concepts makes a 1000LB sack.

Right now I have the 375 locker sack in the locker compartment, 2 550lb sacs on each side of the engine, and 250lb sac under the back seat. I am about to order another 550 to put in between the back seat and the motor (wont be able to fill it up completely, but wil help).

CWS_Kahuna, yeah i've been looking at the fluid concepts sacks. I'm thinking of just getting the 400lb sacks on each side first and leaving the 600lb in the ski locker, and see how the boat handles it.

Here is a link for how to build your own Semi Automatic Ballast system. I used a 10 gpm reversible pump and it works great. I have a 2000 Kamberra (Same as the new Mobius V). I have 2 300 lb sacks (one on each side of the engine) and a 750 in the ski hole.

I have a Moomba Mobius with the stock tank in the back, and we have been running a 700 pound sack in the locker, it could be 500 but it is huge. We arelooking to get the stock cetner sack from Moomba. Anyone know anything about this stock center sack plumbed into the stock fill system? I think I would like to add a small sack in the rear locker and the stock sack in front. I believe that if you add to much weight in the back compared to the front, steering and speed consistency go down the tube. Anyone else agree disagree? I dont know what the weight percentage is but I am guessing like 60% in back 40% in front.

01 mobius v

550 on each side of engine
650 in the floor
700 in the locker
a 350 in the bow
and another 200 lbs of lead in the bow.

Does anyone have a mobius LSV? If so what type of weight are you running, we have the standard 3 bags but are thinking of adding additional weight.

I have a 2001 Outback, I put in 600# on either side of the engine and about 250 right in front of it. Makes for a fairly good sized wake.

3000lbs is a lot of weight! is that safe??

I own a 2000 mob-v

I'm currently running an 800lb Get High sack in the front, and a 550 Fly High sack on either side in the back. Needless to say the wake is plenty big. Make sure you have 40% of your weight up front and 60% in the back, this will keep the wake more vertical and hard.

BTW,

I installed an auto ballast system last winter. If anyone has any questions you can e-mail me for pics, ect.

I have an '03 Moomba Outback w/ no factory installed ballast. So i decide to make my own "Ghetto Ballast". I bought some 80lbs cement bags($2/bag) and placed them in the back storage and w/o any sac's it makes a decent wake. W/ a 600lbs sac under the back seat(pulled out and placed on back ledge) it fits perfect. It makes a great wake but on occassions needs tweaking by moving ppl around. I have nothing up front other than ppl and sometimes not even that.

On a side note: Anyone wish Moomba had more apperal that has the new Moomba logo like on the '03 Outbacks??

This my first post so my bad if it doesn't work correctly.
Sextons, I bought a gravity games mobius this couple months ago and have run 800lbs ballast along with about six people in the boat. Run about 21-22 mph. Good wake still at this speed. How fast are you others going to give me some different points of views?

Latchkey,
We drive between 21- 23 MPH with 3 - 10 people.

We're now running the 3 factory bags in our LSV plus another 700 lbs in fat sacs & 5-7 people. I use a 75 -80 foot rope and my wife runs around 65-70. I'm at 21-22mph and she runs around 20. The wake is a little better at a faster speed for me.

I just bought an 04 Outback, and they're still painting/outiftting the boat. I am trying to do some preliminary research on the appropriate fat sacs to use.
What is the best spot to weigh the back down, storage area or under seat ?
Next question, does anyone know the dimensions of the under seat area ?
Thanks

I am not totally familiar with the 04 Outback but I think it has open area under the rear seat. It's a totally open area right? Anyway I am sure the Fly High Industries Tube Sac would fit under that seat with no problem. The sac is not very tall, it weighs 375LBS. You have to be a little careful with the back storage area, but you can add weight there too.

The factory ballast is under the rear seat, the gas tank is under the trunk. So dont put weight in the trunk or you can split your gas tank.

I have an 04 Mobius LSV GRavity Games Edition and I'm running the stock 900lb Bertha Ballast system. I'm also running an additional 200lbs of lead in each of the back corners and another 300lbs. of lead under the bag in the front floor board. Im totaling out at about 1600lbs. of weight with the bags completely filled but I'm definetly getting huge, steep wakes from this placement. I also alter the filling of the bags depending on how many people I have in the boat. If your looking for pro-sized wake this weight distrubution will blow your mind!

Hi
i have a 03 outback. im planning on putting a custom sac in hte back under the seat. i will put the seat up on the ledge and have enough room for about a 800-900 lb sac. it will be about 14x70x25 i am planning on making the sac about touch the motor cover.
you can get custom sacs at boardersparadise.com

I have a 2001 Mobius D-drive with the factory sac under the rear seat, I have other posts on this topic. Anyway I have modified the factory fill too fill two additional sacs that I have in the trunk, yes on top of the gas tank. I replaced the factory floor with a 2x10 and a 2x8 the boards are, in my opinion, more than strong enough to hold the weight. You have to think it is 600 lbs spread out using a lot of surface area. I can e-mail pictures and directions e-mail me if anyone wants them [email protected].

I have heard of another way to add weight. Guys are getting used lead wheel weights from auto shops, (free??) Then the buy a piece of PVC tubing, I am guessing a 5 or 6 inch diameter or whatever would work for your application. Put some kind of end piece on one end fill the tube and seal the top end. Easy way to add a 100lbs here and there.

any experince with the fat sac "seat"? the 97 outback rear seats lift out and you could put this monster in the back (800-1500 lbs). something up front to balance it out, like people and away you go.

Cwskahuna, What boatdo you have? I just purchased a sac from bullet that measures 51"x18" which I believe is smaller than the skylon sack you have for the ski locker. Just wanted to make sure that it would fit in the ski locker of my 04 mobius ls?

Anyone know what the stock tank under the seat of a 04 mobius ls weighs when it is full?

I have a 2001 Mobius which should be the same size ski locker as your Mobius LS because it's the same boat/hull just a different model year.

I think that stock tank weighs 200LBS. It might be bigger though now than it was back in 2001 since the demand for more weight has gone up.

On a different note I recentley picked up some new weight sacks. These little things are getting quite popular where I live. They are 40 lbs bags, nylon with nice carry straps, and are easy to move around. I bought 10 of them to add an additional 400LBS. I have still not been able to try out my full setup since I still need to replace a fat sack that got stolen out of my boat, stupid theifs.

What kind of sack are people using for the ski locker? I want to get the biggest sack possible that will fit. I have an '03 Mobius LS. I have heard from a few people that the skylon ski locker sack (600#) has some issues draining due to the location of the holes. thoughts?

I have a 2002 outback. The bow on this boat rides really low. I am afraid if I weight it down in front I will have problems. Anyone with an outback ..how are you weighing it? Will I get a good wake with weight only in the back?

08-24-2006, 05:56 PM
I have a 2001 mobius v with the 2 stock 250's , a 750 in the locker, 350 in bow , and 350 in back.

You will be fine if you weight the front, Use the 40/60 rule. 40% of the total weight to the front 60 to the back... It will throw a great wake. Dont be afraid of taking a roller over the bow. just be extra careful, and when it does happen, it happens to us all no worries!!

Cheers

I have the stock 500 , a 750 in the ski locker , and a 350 in the front...with a couple people the wake is awsome.
