Hey y'all, i'm new to the forum!

About a month ago I went to the boat show at the BJCC in Birmingham, AL. I was checking out the Moomba and Supra boats when I was greeted with Dan Miller, VP of Sales with Skier's Choice. He never told me who he actually was as I had only learned this later on the following days when a salesman reached out to me. I just thought he was some local salesman that came off as really down to earth. Dan sat down with me and went over everything I could have ever wanted to know about vdrives and modern tow boats, Supra and Moomba history.....everything. This guy was very knowledgeable and extremely patient to go over all the stupid little questions I was asking :-D. I'm coming from a Yamaha jet boat so this is all new territory for me as you can imagine so I had a ton of questions from maintenance and drain plugs to surf and tech stuff. After speaking with him for easily 20+ minutes or so another family came in wanting to look over the boat so I figured it was a good time to dip out and thanked Dan for all the time he gave me one on one with the boats and brands. Again he's a super nice guy! I put down my info and expressed I'd like to do a demo ride when the weather was decent. Went home and drooled over brochures from all brands and models.

A few days go by and Greg from Skier's Marine from Skier's Marine in Harpersville, AL calls me. He said Dan had mentioned me from the boat show and that I had showed a lot of interest in the Max and that I was wanting to set up a demo ride. Well today was a decent enough day after already having to reschedule once for crap weather last week. The Max I saw at the boat show was white with black lower hull but today's boat was a beautiful red metalflake with black lower hull, similar to how I had spec'd one out on the Moomba web site. The boat looked really sharp!! I know the look is a bit controversial to some on here but for me I dig the squared off look and deep look and the wide bow was really nice!

The conditions today were with a stiff wind on the water and we've had rain for days so it wasn't all that clean but that wasn't going to stop me from having a good time. I gotta say I was really impressed with the boat! I can certainly see myself upgrading to one in a year or so once I have room to store it. My jet boat isn't great for surfing due to all the jet wash to contend with and once I tried surfing I was hooked so I'll need a proper boat to really enjoy it. There are not a lot of videos out there or information about this boat up close with it so I figured I would bring my GoPro with me today and record some footage of the demo, Greg going over the boat with me, learning how to drive a vdrive inboard coming from jet, testing out the wake and surf wave at various settings and speeds. Maybe someone else out there is looking for similar video or information. Greg even talked me into retrieving the boat to the trailer by myself while he watched from the truck which I gotta say was pretty exciting and nerve racking at the same time having never driven a boat like this!! In the end it wasn't so scary or bad and it was cool to learn how to use reverse the "auto rotation" of the boat to your advantage around a dock. Anyways I'm rambling now :D. I apologize in advance for the GoPro being sensitive to the pole mount and the wind at times. It's a long video (22 mins) but he goes over a lot of aspects about the boat explains what we are doing each run and messing around with the plate settings changing the face of the wake or surf wave.

Also if you don't feel like sitting through 22 mins of video (I can certainly understand, especially since you guys are familiar with these boats :D) then here is a condensed video of just the wake and wave action with some music so you don't hear the GoPro popping or wind.

Looks like you had fun! With more dialing and more weight that hog will do so much more than that I reckon.

Thanks for shooting the video. I can't wait to see what the Max can do when more people get a chance to play around with them.

Yea it was a great time aside from the windy conditions. Happy to shoot the video since there just wasn't much out there on YouTube about this boat with its wake and surf wave. Again I apologize for the crappy audio thuds, pops and such. My GoPro 4 has become real sensitive for some stupid reason. I was pretty amazed at how well the wave and wake looked with just the two of us and stock ballast. Greg was 6'5" I think he said and not sure of his weight but I'd guess around 200 and I'm a chunky dude at 5'10" 235 lbs. Even with empty ballast it made for a clean wake with a little pop. I don't really care too much for wake boarding as I've never tried it and feel like I'd kill myself or blow out my knee lol so surfing and chilling in a cove is more what I'm into but it was nice to know the boat without ballast would be safe and fun enough for little kids to play on. We have a 8 year old daughter so I could see her having a ball back there lol.

I really want to get this boat but right now I have no place to store it in my garage and I'm not even sure if my 2010 5.4L F150 FX2 would pull such a boat. It has the highest gear ratio that was available for that year so it doesn't pull that great even with my 19' Yamaha AR192 jet boat which I think with my galvanized trailer and all would be around 4,000 lbs or so. Much less than the Max and its trailer but it is dual axle and mine is single so maybe it rides and pulls better? So likely I'll wait until we move into our next house with a garage big enough for a tow boat and then by then I'll hopefully have sold my jet boat private party. We ran some numbers for trade in and such and the market for jet boats take a beating for depreciation so selling out private is the way I'll need to go. Overall I came away really impressed with the Max and could see it as my next upgrade. I also liked the traditional look of the Craz but man the Max just offers a ton of space, storage and ballast capability. I also liked the little things like being able to access the large glove box from the side of the helm and also that the walk way was padded which saves the gelcoat from those scuffs going to the bow. I think it has a ton of potential for building a massive surf wave and good wake when you load it up with people and even if it's you and a buddy or two the wave will still provide enough power and push to have fun. I wished it wasn't cold water and I had a wet suit and could have played on the surf to get a feel for it. I'll take another demo ride in the summer and will for sure try out the wave!

Huge pet peeve of mine when dealers let people wear shoes on the boat. Even bigger pet peeve when they are wearing shoes on the boat 🤦🏼*♂️.

Ok end of rant....

Second off.... beautiful boat & I’m pretty sure you, your family & friends will have 20k more fun than your Yamadogger.

Once you add more weight she will purrrr

hahahah yea did you notice that nasty dirt/mud on the carpet when he re-entered the boat after parking the truck? Notice my shoes were OFF haha. It's a huge pet peeve of mine too and it hurt me inside seeing that new carpet have some southern red clay dirt on it. The detail guy probably wasn't going to be happy but at least it snaps out for him :D

Yea I'm sure we will have a blast on this boat or any surf boat over my Yamaha!! My wife never grew up a water bug or river rat like me so she could really care less about surfing but I'm trying to tell her it's a ton of fun and nothing to be scared about. I think her biggest fear is getting hit by the board when she falls. I kind of wished we had took an extra 1000 lb bag with us to simulate more people on board but I can already tell this boat seems to have a ton of wave potential just from us two being in the boat with stock ballast! I've sen the Polar Bear surf event video with the Max that had added bags piggybacked off the other bags and the wave looked really impressive!

This was my first time driving a boat like this and my Yamaha is kind of like a rocket being supercharged so I thought I would miss all that speed up top but nope. Once that Raptor 400 V8 fired up I was hooked. And then he did that hard 180 degree turn and the boat carved like it was hooked to rails. I've never felt something like that and I thought my jet boat turned hard. Now it feels like its on skates by comparison :D! It was nice being able to actually talk while cruising too unlike in my Yamaha where that 1.8L is pretty loud and you have to yell to talk while underway. Man it's going to make this boating season kind of a bummer until I upgrade :D

I am not sure fussy on shoes. As long as they’re clean of course!

Just don’t step on the seats if you can help it. Step on a towel or something.

A little update to this thread....

Skiers Marine has stayed in constant contact with me since last year. I've gone back to the dealership a few times since then to talk boats a bit more and to cvheck out the Makai when it came out. Gorgeous boat but too big for my needs or crew. Before leaving the dealer a few weeks ago he offered to give me some free tickets to the upcoming boat show.

Fast forward to today.............. I brought my wife and 9 YO kiddo to the boat show using the free tickets to hopefully get her on board of ditching the Yamaha in favor for a real tow/wake boat lol. Well, we walked to the large Skiers Marine section, met up with (I think) the son of one of the owners of Skiers Choice and then introduced Greg from Skiers Marine to my wife. Went over some of the boat show incentives and well....

I put a friggin deposit down on a build slot for a new Moomba Max!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nervous, excited and everything else in between lol. I have 2 months to cancel my build and get my deposit back for whatever reason I choose to but I'm pretty sure we are going to stay committed to the purchase. Just have to see how the numbers look after I'm sure I'll take a beating on trading in my 2016 Yamaha AR192 lol but i'm pretty pumped to say the least! I've built i don't know how many boats on the website builder trying to find the right scheme. I've got a few ideas as far as color goes but for options I'm definitely getting autowake, 6 ballast pump, surf prop, flow 2.0 comes free with boat show deal, bimini with surf pockets, dual batteries and likely gatorstep it out. Pumped to say the last!!!

Wifey in the Max talking with Greg from skiers Marine and the son of Skiers Choice owner (sorry i can't remember the guys name lol)...

That’s awesome, congrats! I’ve watched a few of your videos, big fan!

Consider the OJ945 wake prop upgrade ($200 in build vs $650 aftermarket) and the surf pipe ($600 in build vs double that to add later).

Get ready to start second guessing ALL your build choices lol.

:D yea every time I think I find the right color combo to the build I end up finding something I like about a different build the next time. I guess now we have to be a bit more serious instead of just dreaming or goofing off on the build site :D. Glad you enjoy my little vids I put on my channel. Hoping to add a lot more Moomba stuff in the future ;)

BTW does anyone know how to make my images not so small like thumbnails? Is full size images something that unlocks after more post amount or something?

Excited to hopefully be a part of the Skiers Choice family very soon!

If you can squeeze it, I do recommend the FAE. When I go surfing on buddies boats its weird seeing and smelling the fumes. The V8 rumble remains, promise.

This is probably what I’m most excited to experience when mines done. Never been on a boat with a surf pipe. But heard it’s the best upgrade for your sound system lol

I'll for sure get the larger prop. FAE isn't too much more to add to the build and I like the idea of a cleaner surf ride. Good idea!

I was using the dark graphite but trying to keep it off the cushion where your butt sits. Does it get as hot? I'm in central Alabama so it gets hot and muggy in the summer.

I've also watched all your videos ove the last year or so since I've been shopping the same boats. I demoed a 19 max last fall on a sunny 75 deg day in Sept up in MN, it had the dark graphite. My experience was even on that day, it got pretty warm. My opinion is it would be way too hot on a 95 deg July day. Just my 2 cents.

Thank ya sir for the feedback. Hate to hear the graphite is a scorcher as I love the look and contrast. Hmm now I will have to get creative on the builds to try and break up the interior colors differently. I just don't want it looking all primarily the same colors so it won't look bland.

My thought, even though we might wait until next winter is that I would build it with white and light graphite, even though white sucks to keep clean. Then do the welt a color from the fiberglass to tie it in.

Ok I think the wife and I have settled on one of the two builds we will send into the dealership. This is how I have it optioned out as well.

Raptor 400 engine
AutoWake
G6 ballast (6 pumps)
Flow 2.0 surf system (I’m getting this free with boat show)
OJ 945 15x13 surf prop
3 exterior gel coat colors
Bow filler cusion
Flip up bolster
Pop-up cleats
Gatorstep cockpit
Moomba premium logo and badges
Swing away trailer tongue
Color-matched trailer
Depth finder
Dual battery with onboard charger
Boat cover
2 Wetsounds Rev8 tower speakers with sub and amp
Bimini top with surf pockets
2 years of free service, winterization and maintenance (they claim this is worth over $2,000 in parts and labor)
$2,300 off MSRP
2 years extra engine warranty (boat show deal = 7 years total)

I brought in a little bit of white to have 3 colors on the inside. Thoughts?

Looks good! I would add the 7-way plug to the trailer options, so that it can plug directly into your tow vehicle. Also consider trailer steps!

No sure how flat the gunnels on the Max are, but either way that can get slick, especially so if it’s a more rounded surface. Might be worth the extra coin for the gatorstep up there.

Engine strainer/flush kit wouldn’t be a bad idea either if you are running in dirtier waters. Also comes with a helpful hookup for a hose in case you need to run your motor out of water.

And dang 2 years maintenance, wish I was a better negotiator :(

Yes forgot to mention the trailer plug as it’s on my list. I was going to add the additional gatorstep but it’s $600 or so more for relatively small pieces except for the bow navition light area. That section I’m not a huge fan of the embossed “Max” lettering. The other pieces I do like though. I know a SeaDek guy so I was going to see what he would charge me to make some custom pieces for the gunnels. They are wide flat gunnels on the Max and I can see them being slippery surfaces for the wife or kiddo. Just not sure I want to pay additional $600 for something I only half like the design.

What are the trailer steps? Can you post a pic?

Question on the stereo. Is the stock Fusion head unit enough to power the Wetsounds cockpit speakers at a moderate volume while cruising and sound good? It’s quite more expensive to add an amp to power those on the build site and I’m not sure if it’s worth it. I added the tower speakers and sub to give us a little more volume and bass and I was hoping this would be ok for us. I don’t care to have the loudest or biggest booming stereo where it’s obnoxious in the cockpit. Just want to know if the setup I chose would be ok for most people all but the most hardcore audiophiles. I can always add an amp to power the cockpit speakers later on as I used to do car stereo installation back in the day and I’m sure I can do it for less money than the build site was offering. Does anyone know if the cockpit speakers are the same regardless if I add an amp package or not?

That’s a good point, and very easy to add it later.

Yeah the trailer steps with LED lights are pointed out here (not my pic)https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190128/63d84761577bbc0cfa2118f08ca09236.jpg

You can get into the boat without them, it just involves stepping on the trailers fender and then kind of pivoting into the boat. Not easy but doable.

The ‘19 Craz comes with two wet sounds and when you do the tower speakers and sub. If you add a sub on the max, doesn’t it come w amp? That setup sounded plenty good to me, and there is the separate zone control for tower and cockpit.

I've got the rear step on my trailer and they are ok. I'd rather have the boarding ladder in the front. still somewhat of a gymnast to get onto the swim platform.
but yes, I'd order them if I were spec'ing a new boat....

Personally I have never been a fan of the Dark Graphite Gel or the 3 Color Exterior on the Max but if you love it that is all that matters! I think the interior looks great and the Silver Metal Flake is one of my favorites! It looks awesome in the sun!

The transom steps aren't the easiest for some folks to navigate but short of a step stool or ladder, I have no idea how you would get in the boat from the ground with out them.

Now that you mention a ladder that brings up another question. Does anyone make a folding or telescoping ladder for under the swim platform? Our Yamaha has one and it really makes getting into the boat from the water a breeze and safe. It was the first question my wife actually asked about the boat and I had no idea what to tell her other than we could always fill the ballast to lower the swim platform lol just so she could get in easier while at a cove. I wasn’t sure if anyone has added a telescoping ladder underneath or if it’s even possible. I also didn’t know if it would disrupt the wave or wake.

I actually asked my dealer if I could get the Max removed from the gator step, but they said no. But since having the boat, it doesn’t bother me as much as it did on the site builder. Here’s a pic of it in person.

As far as stereo, it’s all personal preference, but I ordered mine with no audio upgrades because I added all of my own aftermarket components. But when breaking the boat in and cruising before adding anything, i had the cabins powered off just the headunit and there’s no way I could personally leave it powered that way. If you turn it up at all to hear it going 30mph, it’s no bueno.

But like you said it’s easy ( and better IMO) to add your own amps after the fact if you don’t mind doing some work.

I saw your boat the other night on here after building a very similar boat. It looks great!!!

Bummer to hear about the stock radio not having enough power at cruising speeds. I was hoping it could hold me over for a year or so and then upgrade but if you can’t hear it at stock then I guess I’ll ship for an amp. Do you know what model number the cockpit speakers are so I can check performance specs?

Thanks for your valued input everyone!

Currently I have a small crew and we just plan to surf using the two boards I have. I was trying to save a little money by not getting racks and using the bimini surf pockets instead. Do you think they’ll serve the job for a couple of boards? The Max has such deep storage it looks like I could even stuff a board if I had to.

There isn’t an amp on the inboats? WTH that would be abysmal!

Stock is head unit power I believe. In order to get amplified cockpit speakers you have to opt for the highest tower audio package. Someone correct me if I'm wrong as I haven't seen a base stereo Max in person but I've attached the audio options which they bundled with the tower upgrades. I only planned to add the middle tower package which comes with Rev8's, sub and an amp to power them. Anyone know the wattage the cockpit speakers can take? I'm guessing they're 4 ohm?

I’ll check the model numbers on the cabin speakers next time I’m at the boat, don’t remember exactly what they are. But the towers for the Max are the Icon-8s, not the Rev-8s.

Question for you guys. Is GPS cruise with Zero Off a must have in your opinion or skip it? I've never had a boat with GPS cruise. The Max I rode in last year year was paddle wheel and I don't recall it having any issue holding a speed. Not sure how accurate the paddle wheel is in these boats though.

my last boat had gps. on a lake it held better than paddlewheel from the old supra but when i was in WI riding the river, the gps had a little bit of a hard time with current flow. I would set to 12.4 and it would vary .2 to .4 depending on whether you were going up or down stream. guys have said paddlewheel hold better on rivers.

now to colors, I am digging that light blue flake in #52 above but I have not seen that max logo in the front. that would HAVE to go.
that blue would be my first choice with a white top/bottom.

My current boat has black below the water line and white just above it. The black is by far worst to keep looking clean compared to my white sections.

Mine is the opposite. White hull showed the scum line, black covered it up pretty good. Guess it will depend on your water but black was far better at hiding than white in my lake. Every boat you see with a white bottom on our lake you can tell if they have a boat lift or not basically.

sandm
01-29-2019, 06:10 PM
white below the water line will show it quicker as jason indicates but it will clean up easier than black and if you boat in a lake with sticks/stumps in it, the white won't scratch as easy if you accidentally hit something.

haknslash
01-29-2019, 07:00 PM
For sure white shows if a boat is wet slipped or not or at a minimum pulled out and cleaned routinely. I don't wet slip so I'm not too concerned with staining. If I get a small scuff on my black hull it shows up much easier to the eye than on the white. As anal as I am about cleaning my boat and toys I don't think the white is going to be too bad, certainly not as bad as keeping black clean with water spots lol. My main lake (Lake Mitchell) is is on the Coosa river but it's not too dirty unless after a heavy rain of course. I also boat on clear lakes like Lewis Smith, Lake Martin and even the smaller Lake Tuscaloosa which is nice water on the southern half.

One of thre negatives about trading up is my current boat fits in my 7’ garage. New boat will be stores indies. I found a nice climate controlled indoor RV/boat storage facility that I’m looking into. It’s 24 minutes from my house but it’s also not out of the way from heading to several different lakes so I think the location will work out. The rate they charge is $5 per foot and I think with the trailer that will be around $130 a month. Doesn’t seem too bad but how are those prices to anyone else that is using indoor storage? Obviously location would be different but just looking for a rough gauge on prices. I called and asked if we can use power and they said yes no problem as long as I bring my own extension cord. They also have water I can use outside for free if I wanted to do any maintenance and needed to run the boat off the hose. Price doesn’t seem bad compared to dry rack storage at a marina.

Here’s the place I’m looking at.

vegas- $150 for indoor storage. climate controlled is tough to find. pretty lengthy wait for an indoor unit around here tho. Im paying $100 for outside until we finish our house end of this year. kills me to have it out in the sun but had a super custom cover made that covers down to the trailer with tower down.

For $130 a month I would lock that down. It is hard to say if that is a good deal for your area as storage prices vary geographically but I have 2 13x50 enclosed units with power but they are not climate controlled and I pay $300/month total.

That place looks awesome! Do they retrieve the boat for you?

haknslash
01-30-2019, 03:02 PM
It’s not a marina so they won’t retrieve the boat or anything. I think I just pull it in and park it? Maybe I drop it off and they park it but not sure and I will verify. Other prices are lower in the area but they are outside with a covered roof. Front would still be exposed to the elements, so I’d rather keep the boat new looking by keeping it inside. Our 2016 Yamaha looks as new as the day I bought it because I keep it in the garage at my house. Our next house will for sure have a detached barn or large shop/garage for boats and toys. I had to modify my tower cables on my Yamaha to squeeze it in a 7’ garage. Dry rack marina storage at the large lakes is $300 or more a month and a longer drive limiting me to that lake. I like to bounce around to different so the flexibility of keeping it close to home makes sense for me.

Towing with the cover seems to be open to debate on gel coat safety. It appears more than up to the task of holding up with towing.

I have towed 3 hour trips 3 times now, with the cover on, and no roughing up of the gel coat that I can see. Covered it because of inclement weather. Honestly, if weather is decent I would just tow uncovered. Now I just take out some bags of lead and lay it on the snap-in flooring just to be overly sure it won't come undone. No issues with seat cushions, but could put lead on some of them and then they aint going anywhere. I have not put my tower down and I just bungee cord the bimini top.....but on the last trip I got bugs galore so thinking for longer tows I am going to just put the whole tower down, its so easy anyway I am not sure why I didn't do that in the first place.

On another recent thread somebody stated that Suran (sp?) wrap where the cover strap touches would help....obviously would be a PITA for shorter trips, but long tow hauls makes complete sense.

Changed out the interior to add pacific blue welt instead of dark graphite. After looking at the pics on here of pacific blue fabric it looks darker than online build configurator. Plus it’s such a small area I don’t think it will be too noticeable and will look close enough to ultra blue. Brings just a touch of color inside to help balance it out IMO. Thoughts?

Your dealer should have some samples of the Vinyl and Gels so you can compare and take them out side to see how they look. That might really help in your decisions. I am sure it will look great as the Ulta Blue Metal Flake doesn't look nearly as tealish in real life as it does on the build site. My Yamaha trade is causing the dealer financing to want 3% more down than I had anticipated and puts us just outside of what I can put down. They say this is because of my trade-in and that typically if I was buying the boat outright it would be 10% instead of 13% required down. I don't think they are going to budge any more than they have or he didn't seem that way when he kept emphasizing bottom lines. They were giving me a discount of around $3800. They low balled me on my trade in but I expected that being its a jet boat on a non-jet boat lot, just didn't expect it as they went and was hoping for at least a few grand more. They said that trade-in difference the bank wanted more they don't typically like to roll over negative equity into another loan. I can understand all that and was willing to accept it. I was using thinking it would still be at a 10% down payment whatever the total was. The extra 3% just put it out of reach I'm afraid. Really sucks and has us down but that's life and guess it wasn't meant to be.

Possibly! They may also change their tune after a few days and they realize the deal really is sunk because of that. Can’t hurt to offer to split the 3% with them!

I’ve heard of that with cars too, depends on the bank but they do need a certain LTV sometimes. You might also check with outside financing, a buddy used Ohio Educational Credit Union and they do 110% LTV with 0 down on boat loans. He got 4.75% at 180mos.

Mastercraft is also offering no money down specials on the NXT boats but I’m just not a fan of the interior and the videos of the surf wave look pretty meh by comparison to the Moomba boats. The dealer sells both brands but I don’t even think I would like settling for an NXT just so I could get out of my Yamaha and into a wake boat. I think I’m just going to sell my Yamaha privately and take what I can for it and cut my losses. It would be more than what the dealer would ever take for it that’s for sure lol.

You know, I was in a similar spot, at least I was debating if a 19 max was worth the price, and trust me I understand a max is probably your best bang for your buck new boat. I got to the point where I was going to put the deposit down. I held off last fall and a couple weeks later I found a great deal on a loaded 16 mojo. Yeah it doesn't have all the new tech, but it has the surf system AND I saved a LOT of money over the new max. Anyway, a boat is for the family, don't feel like you need all the new tech, the $20k you might save could go toward something else. Or keep the Yamaha, they are probably the best all around family boat out there and they last. Anyway, good luck!

Feel for you. That sucks. I am not sure why boat financing is so tough these day. These boats hold their numbers well, and it is a foolish decision to buy one. Typically in life, I find that foolish decision are much easier to finance than say buying a commercial building that will make you money. My buddy bought an AR-242 and took a gigantic bath on it. if they are not giving you payoff on the yamaha and rolling negative equity into the moomba I would try to sell it yourself. I am assuming you are going with a 12+ year loan and you won't be in a good equity position for years in that boat. that's not a good place to be if you have a life change that forces the sale down the road.

it'll sell eventually but just won't be the instant trade in you get off a dealer and if you go in without a trade the bargaining table is changed dramatically.....

The owner seemed very willing to make this sale happen and we want to get into the boat, so we shall see I guess. Things are looking up but I’m going to be patiently optimistic.

Yep, they'll figure a way to make it happen if a couple grand is in the way.

Can anyone who has the upgraded stereo with sub tell me if its an infinite baffle/free air or if it's enclosed sub with box behind the helm? Does anyone know the specs of the sub? Does it sound decent? Obviously it won't be earth shattering bass and I'm not looking for that but does it produce any decent spl or thump you can feel or hear decently? I really should have tested the stereo while demoing the boat but I was too focused on the wave and overall experience to remember to mess with the stereo :D. A big stereo isn't high on my list, we just want something we can hear and enjoy ourselves at cruising speeds and don't need or care to have massive sound like a full custom stereo install. Do you think the upgraded amplified cockpit, sub and tower setup be fine for us?

As for the new boat, dealer opens back up on Tuesday and the owner is going to call me and setup a time to come see my boat. I offered to bring it to him and he said it was no problem them coming to see it at my house. We only live about 35 mins from the dealer so not too bad of a drive for them. Yesterday the wife and I did some early spring cleaning in the garage to clean things up and we took a massive load of accumilated "crap" to the landfill. Good thing because we are again expected to get rain next week so at least the owner could come see it in the garage and now I won't feel embarrassed since we've cleaned the garage out. So tired of this damn rain every week! Hoping we can work the deal out Tuesday and get this boat order into Skiers Choice soon to get in before all the other boat show orders start to pile in.

It's WetSounds but that's all I know.

Also it does seem that the 2019 Max comes with Rev 8 tower speakers instead of the Icon 8 that someone mentioned either on. This jives with what the dealer had told me a month or so ago when I went to go look at the Makai. I'm guessing earlier year Max's had the Icon 8's?

Here's a pic from a YouTube video on a 2019 Max. Not sure if this sub is the same as your 2019 Craz and if that means the 2019 Max has a sealed sub enclosure too. That would be a bonus to me. Hopefully someone can confirm who has a new Max.

My 2019 Max came with icons. Below is a pic. Not sure if different upgrade packages come with different tower speakers but the only speaker upgrade I got were the towers. Icons were what I wanted so I confirmed with my dealer before ordering. But maybe the higher packages come with Revs?

Hi CSM, that's interesting! So now I've seen a 2019 Max both ways. Perhaps you are right and it depends on which audio package you get? Maybe Goose will see this post and can confirm. I wish the website went a bit more in detail regarding what kind of audio components come with the packages.

I ordered my max with no stereo upgrade. I added 12 wetsounds sub in enclosed box under the helm and actually provided as much bass as I need. I put pair of rev 10 on the tower. It’s loud enough that you can hardly turn it all the way up

Can you provide thoughts/contrasts/impressions between the Max and '13 LSV?

Sure thing! Below is a braindump of what I've noticed. Unfortunately, with the crappy weather, and the time of year, I only have a couple of break-in hours on the boat, so I can't comment on anything surf specific yet. I haven't been able to load up ballast and mess with autowake at this point, but hopefully will be soon.

Bottom line: I loved my '13 LSV, but I like almost everything about the Max better, and I would make the same decision in a heartbeat.

Things I like better about the Max:
- The vinyl seems like much better quality than the LSV.
- The huge bow with the filler cushion is a game changer for my kids. They were cramped up front with the LSV. In the max, they basically have a full bed up there. Overall, the boat just feels much bigger on the interior, and more comfortable.
- Wakeboard wake - Just cruising at wakeboard speeds with no ballast, the wake is much cleaner on both sides than it was with the LSV, especially at lower speeds where my kids ride. I can't wait to get out and try it.
- Back seat - I hated, hated, hated the one-piece back seat in the LSV. It was such a PITA to remove, and put back in place when doing maintenance on the boat. The sliding back seat on the Max is pretty sweet, easy to get out of the way, and a cool place for people to sit when pulling a rider.
- The Raptor is a noticeable improvement. I have the upgraded prop (I had the Acme 2079 in the LSV, so it was propped well also), and the acceleration in the Max is a huge difference.
- I have noticed almost zero bow rise when accelerating, probably due to the smart plate. But I was expecting bow rise to be worse in the Max. So far it's much better.
- It goes without saying, but the storage in the max is night and day difference compared to the LSV. It's amazing how much room there is in this boat with the depth. I have the three trays. If you don't get the trays, don't plan on storing anything in the v-drive lockers. You would literally have to jump down into the lockers to get whatever's down there. They're that deep.
- It handles rough water so much better than the LSV. We used to get beat up pretty bad heading accross the open part of our lake. We've been out in the Max in choppy water, and it handles it like nothing.
- On the LSV, the surf rope would rub pretty signifcantly on the bimini due to where the tow point was located. On the new tower/bimini, this won't be an issue. The tower/bimini overall are improved over the LSV also.
- Having flip up backrests in the bow makes accessing those areas so much easier.

My few minor complaints:
- I wish I still had gauges on the dash. The screen pretty much makes you choose 3 items to display. I prefer to have more info at a glance (engine temp, oil pressure, water depth, water temp, RPM, etc...) I don't like having to choose 3.
- I installed an after-market sub (Kicker square 12"), and the one-piece helm/foot area made that more difficult than it was in the LSV. Having to cut a hole in fiberglass, and then sealing the sub to the fiberglass, then the box to the back of the helm was a bit of a chore.

Sorry for the long post, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

Trying to find a better pic but I think it’s enclosed on the Craz

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ah yes I forgot the Craz doesn't have the fiberglass facade like the Max and Helix have. Thanks for the pic.

csm, I wanted to get the trays but opted out because I didn't know if they would interfere with any taller aftermarket bags. I've seen pics of z28ke using cargo netting in the midship under the seats when they installed midship ballast. I'm thinking maybe adding cargo netting to the rear lockers would be a good idea as well and would allow for monster sized bags if someone made some to fill the Max's cavernous lockers. That being said I do love those trays and yea it wouldn't be fun trying to get something from the bottom in there :D.

Thanks for your comparison on your LSV as well. I'm sure the Max rides night and day smoother too than your older boat. My friends older Outback direct drive can get pretty rough due to its flat bottom and low freeboard on the rougher or windier days. When I test drove the Max it seemed to handle running across its wake very well and soaked it right up. Hoping it will perform well on the rougher days and cut through chop.

Thank you for the response. I can see where the lack of gauges would be a detractor. The one thing I also noticed on the Max was how do you service the transmission? I really wished Moomba would make the access better. Looks to me like you need to remove screws and floor panel.
I am really struggling to determine if this would be worth the $30k upgrade from my LSV. I could throw more money at my LSV and install a stereo, even more ballast, but that might be throwing good money after bad. I would still have a low profile boat that would take water over the bow and swamp the boat when a clueless driver is at the helm ( truly amazed at how difficult driving a boat is for some people, anyway- rant over.) I would also retain marginal Surf Performance, still need to play with a suck gate, toy around with ballast proportions along with passenger placement as well has have yet another giant ballast bag in the passenger area.

I had an 06 Mastercraft X2, i got so sick of suck gates, and playing around with the thing to get it close to a good surf wave but that boat just wasn't meant for that. So like you, i considered spending the money and ended up getting a 2019 mondo with ballast upgrades, flow 2 and Autowake 3. I think its money well spent if you are into watersports. Not saying its financially smart for everyone, but for me it was fine and the family is going to love it. Go for a new or newer model designed for surfing.

Yeah it’s just 4 screws to get to the v-drive/tranny. I think some people just leave the screws out and haven’t had a problem. I leave two screws in and with a drill takes about 5 seconds to get access. Another plus is that when working on the engine from the v-drive lockers, you can squat down instead of lay down and reach almost all points of the engine. In the LSV I had to lay down and contort my body more than I’d like to so I think the maintenance in the Max is going to be easier from what I’ve experienced so far.

My salesman just left my house and came away impressed with my boat for how clean it is, the mods on it and that's it's everything I've described to them. I will know more next week once the dealership owner has wrapped up the Chattanooga boat show. They want to make this happen and it seems like we're moving in the right direction. Hoping for good news next week and yes I'm keeping my emotions in check :D. Also got an email from the dealer today to fill out a form to lock in the boat show incentives with Skiers Choice and allows me to track the boat.

hack, good luck...

keep in mind tho that as a dealership that needs to sell a boat, odds are your trade will be bought by someone that will finance it. banks are only going to loan "x" on that boat so all the mods may have a value to you, to the dealership and as they try to sell, that money is pretty much gone.
just like the guy that puts rims/stereo/perf parts into a new sports car, you can consider that money gone unless you swap back to stock.

Yea I've removed some of the mods I could and will sell them on the jetboat forum. I'm leaving the upgraded intercooler, onboard single battery charger, new radial tires and wheels, LED cockpit lighting, full SeaDek from swim deck to bow obviously staying too :D. Wheels and tires would be a hassle to try and ship so they will just go with the boat. I don't really have a need for the single battery charger either nor care to stuff myself back in the storage compartment to uninstall it since I've gained weight last time I contorted myself in the compartment lol. Market has dropped for the upgraded intercooler since the newer boats come with it and I figure the new owner will appreciate not having to deal with heat soak like the smaller stock one has issues with. LED trailer guides and all that stuff I'm leaving with the boat/galvanized trailer since it's just not worth the hassle of removing and selling them when someone can buy them new for next to nothing. Just a lot of little nice touches that are not worth my time or any big money to take off and try to sell. Whoever the new owner is will appreciate the mods next to a stock boat as I have taken care of most of the factory and design shortcomings in this type of boat.

I want the Exile Big 12 and it needs 1.75cuft ported/vented. The WS 12xxx is about the same size box for ported. Exile doesn't recommend sealed for their Big 12 but WS has specs for the 12xxx at 1.2 sealed. I know that will fit. Box builder is going to check out the Max on the lot and get back to me before my boat gets there.

I’m shopping for insurance quotes for the new boat. I know premiums vary wildly depending on where you live. Those in the southeast US, who do you use for boat insurance, what do they offer and what is your premium? I’m coming from BoatUS with our Yamaha and looking for other options for the Max. We boat in central Alabama.

Today I got a quote from Boaters Insurance Agency but not sure I am liking the 5 year limit for a replacement. We used agreed value on the boat and trailer with BoatUS.

Insurance is merely legalized printing of money. When profits dip, insurance companies raise rates or you simply are experiencing year to year rate creep after they lure you in with the teaser rate.

current boat we bought last fall has agreed value of 65k, 1k deductible, 3 month layup, stored offsite and premiums are $280/yr. not a bad increase for a boat that retails for almost double what our last one did we sold last year.

I made a quick photoshop edit of one of the promo marketing pictures of the Max using my color choices for exterior, interior and rub rail. I think this thing is going to look sweet in person on the water! I don’t think the interior looks too understated by not having a darker accent color with this color combo. Going of for a subtle, clean look. What do y’all think?

Looking at RCs boat while we were designing ours convinced us to go with pacific blue vinyl next to the ultra blue metal flake as well. They match extremely well. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190214/4f6df3aa4ec0e0347a9aa48477cb884a.jpg

Only thing we don’t like is the amount of blue on the side panels next to the speakers. I wish the vinyl was designed a little more like the Craz or Mojo where the side panels are more low key where the accent color goes. The other sections we did like on the seats and rear lockers. Wife and I agreed let’s just keep it light graphite but add the blue welting.

I absolutely love the color of that mojo blue however sitting in the water should have carried the white/black along the whole side rather than disappearing into the lake.

that would be my first and only choice for a new build boat hands down......

the grey on the back transom to protect is a good idea. only thing missing is a real beverage in the cupholder ;)

Alright I found another 2018 Max pic on the internet that had a similar paint scheme except it had a black rub rail, black chrome emblems and a black trailer. I made another photoshopped edit giving it a white rub rail, chrome emblem and dark graphite trailer to give me a better idea of what my build will look like. Man this wait is going to seem like FOREVER if I'm going to sit around photoshopping boats until she arrives :( :D :D!! BTW i never realized how much better the A3 tower looks compared to the older A2 but I am glad of the change in 2019 as it flows with the boat better, especially at the base.

As much as I'd love to have a white trailer my dealer made good points about it being a royal PITA to keep clean with rock chips, nicks and stuff. I didn't want a black trailer and the pacific blue paint was going to look too off from the ultra blue flake, so i went with a shade lighter in dark graphite. I think it still flows pretty well with the boat scheme. What do you guys think?

To be honest... it would really pop on a white trailer!

I don’t think a white trailer would show water spots or dust as much as black or graphite. I live towards the end of a short gravel road (about 12 houses in the community all with 3+ acre lots) and my black trailer always looks terrible lol. I generally only buy white daily drivers because they stay looking decent and hide some of the gravel dust/mud.

Oh I totally agree the white trailer would look amazing on it!!!

We will be traveling a lot on the roads since we go to several lakes around the state with lots of interstate use. if i were keeping it close to the lake where it wouldn't see much use on the road I would feel better about the white but if its anything like the front of my truck, it would look chipped and show all of that in no time. Our roads here are crap right now with a lot of construction on the major interstates. My dealer said every white trailer they've ever spec'd for a boat ends up looking pretty bad so I am taking his word on it. He said he would order it however I wanted but that he wanted to give me a fair warning it won't stay nice looking especially with all the driving we will do across the state. My truck is already black and it's my 2nd black vehicle so I totally understand how dark colors show dust. They are easier to repair rock chips without it being as noticeable as a lighter color though. I waffled back and forth on black vs dark graphite. I just wanted some color other than black so dark graphite was next I could pick from. I don't think it looks bad or out of place but yes I totally agree white would take it up about 11 notches! :D

That is what this forum is for, figuring shit out and helping you sleep at night.

Never feel bad about creating work for your salesman, that is what he is paid to do. If you are dropping that kind of money for a boat, it’s ok to waffle until it’s right OR the order window is closed.

I know I tweaked a few things on my order and my salesman was more than happy to get it done for me, even calling me on the last day to be sure if I had any other tweaks.

I wished we could have the trailer fender accents painted like you can if you ordered it custom from Boatmate. I’d do a white frame with dark graphite fenders. Or better yet I would just have it painted in ultra blue or ultra blue with white. But $$$$ and I’d rather spend that where it counts ....on the water (more ballast and lead).

Part of my thinking of the dark graphite is that my truck is a Ford FX2 which has these dark graphite accents on the running boards, tail lights and a few other places. The aftermarket wheels I chose also have dark graphite in between the polished spokes, so I was hoping all of that would help flow with the dark graphite on the trailer.

Here's a pic of my wheels and truck to give you an idea. You think that would still look out of place?

IMO I think black\white would go much better. If you had the gray wheel well accents, rocker panels & bumpers like they do on some trim levels then it would look pretty slick but I don’t think it is noticeable enough to go with the trailer. That being said it is a great looking truck!

Agree not feeling the graphite trailer.

First priority is trailer needs to match with boat.

It’s a bonus if you can tie into your tow vehicle.

Anyone care to share some tips for retrieving the boat on the trailer? One of my biggest concerns is hitting the prop since I've never had a prop boat. I've read some post and a few people said if you place the trailer too deep that is when you can hit the prop guard but for the life of me I can't understand why if the trailer itself would be deeper. I know it all depends on the steepness of the ramp too. Most of our ramps are relatively steep and I put just the front of my bunks out of the water and she glides right in. I don't usually power load but rather let the boat come in slow and get centered on the bunks then I jump out to winch it the rest of the way.

Also any tips for pulling up to a dock on the port side? These boats tend to spin to the right using reverse correct? In order to get the stern to pivot to port is it just a matter of using more throttle input or do they simply not rotate that direction no matter how much throttle is applied? One of the guys o our jetboat forum bought a Helix last year and he said maneuvering at the docks is his biggest complaint since switching to v drive. I know a lot of the skill will only come from seat time but I'm just looking for tips to arm myself with some knowledge before our maiden voyage.

larry_arizona

First off, you won’t hit the prop unless you are extremely off. As long as you are between the guide poles and going slow you will be fine.

No need to go any deeper with the trailer than just getting the top of the trailer fenders underwater.

I do not power load, I tie it to dock, then grab truck and trailer, then my wife or son aligns the boat between the guide poles as I back trailer in.

V drives/inboards do suck to dock, I prefer the left side of a dock at about 10-15 degree angle, going minimum speed then light thrust in reverse to stop as the ass end then pulls towards the dock.

Tige has some V drive tutorials on YouTube that will give you pointers.

Seat time is the key.

I ran across this young man's videos and a lot of this makes sense and I understand the concept. Docking vid https://youtu.be/3a1JCBl5G38 and this one https://youtu.be/amC4io8tFdM. At around the 6:25 mark he talks about reversing more and mentions 'hooking the rudder' to make it swing opposite of the natural prop rotation. I'm going to try this stuff with a fender floating on the water in a cove to help so I'm not learning the hard way by a dock the first time lol. I'm sure I'll adapt just fine after a little seat time. Like anything practice makes perfect.

BTW I spoke with the salesman and I got the trailer in black ....again :D. He said he will make the change on Tuesday.

I have always found a little piece of advice my Dad gave me when teaching me to drive a boat as a kid helpful, I am sure he got it from somewhere, and that is “don’t approach anything any faster then you are willing to hit it”. That being said I am in the same boat as you (no pun intended) as this is my first V-Drive so I will be learning the quirks of maneuvering. I did notice the 2 times I demoed the boat that the sales person approached the dock just like Larry described 10-15 deg angle with the doc on the starboard side and used reverse to stop the boat which also began to pull the rear of the boat toward the dock. It looked really smooth.

These videos are opposite of how our V drives rotate. Ours pull the transom to starboard in reverse, this guys boat in the video pull to port in reverse.

This is more accurate as the Tige drivetrains are the same. That said, 45 degree approach at a boat launch is almost impossible and I have never been able to get the transom to pull that hard starboard without the bow rotating to port.

Again 10-15 deg approach then reverse to pull transom starboard is my go to move at the dock.

best advice I received as an owner that bought a supra launch as my first boat ever......

don't be in a hurry to dock and go slow- similar to txsurf's advice. if you go slow to the dock you have plenty of time to make adjustments. guys that come up hot and think they have control 50 yards from the dock are the guys slamming the boat into reverse to stop and hoping it doesn't hit.

oh ya, and don't be that guy that buys a brand new boat and tries to launch it the first time on the warmest saturday morning of the year so far with no help from friends/family. seen that happen many times and it never has a happy ending for the family.

At low (idle) speeds be sure to start turning the rudder well before you expect the boat to turn. The max is a big pig with a tiny rudder and took me a bit to get used to coming from a little outback v (with the same size rudder lol). You’ll get used to it in no time and be docking like a pro!

Yes I know all about this lol!! My current jet boat is very lightweight compared to a v drive, very shallow draft and has no running gear to help under the water. On a windy day the bimini is practically a peachier and will make the boat drift.

As for being “that guy” on a summer day I should hopefully have several launches and retrieved under my belt by then if I get my boat in the spring. I should hopefully have got the hang of it by then and before summer hits. This isn’t my first time so I understand how annoying it is to be held up by someone taking their sweet time at the ramp on a busy day. The worst is the guy who loads his boat at the water while on the trailer lol!! Our lake has more than it’s fair share of those guys. My biggest pet peace is going to the lake only to find out there’s a fishing tournament at the ramp. Talk about chaos!!!

Thanks everyone for your tips! Much appreciated :)

Ideally it’s most efficient to have someone retrieve the truck and trailer and some dock the boat.

Technically you are supposed to drop off someone to get truck and trailer and that dictates when you get a dock space.

My reality is I am the only one currently in my crew that can back the trailer or dock the boat.

I wait until a dock spot opens, have my crew hold boat against dock, I grab truck and back in trailer and crew guides it onto the trailer, I crank it on, everyone jumps in truck and we pull to the tie down area.

I pull the nose of the boat up to the dock, wife jumps out, backs the trailer in, I pull the boat up on the trailer and she pulls us out without ever getting out of the Yukon. Takes a matter of a minute at most and we are gone and the next guy can get in. I told my wife when we got the boat she either had to learn to back the trailer or had to bring the boat onto the trailer. She chose to learn to back. Oh man yall are lucky your lady will back your truck down the ramp! I could only dream mine would get over the fear. I'm one of those people that has to do the truck and boat but we are usually in/out pretty quick. Actually quicker than most people who have a team so those guys like to chit chat are the back of the truck for whatever reason. Our dock also has a secondary dock off to the side from the main dock which helps as I usually put my boat there to not take up a faster crews time.

I do applaud y'all who have a team that just rolls in and rolls out like the breeze. Maybe one day I'll be so lucky lol. I'm hoping my wife will like driving this boat better than my jet boat. Not sure if anyone has drivin a jet before but they such at low speed and will wander a lot at the slightest breeze. It always made my wife nervous. When I drove the Max it literally felt like I had rails by comparison so I'm hoping she will like driving it much better and maybe even can load the boat for me in the trailer one day. My wife tries to help where she can or feels most comfortable but right now it's neither docking or loading the boat. I'm just glad she helps and of course gave the green light for the new boat lol.

I certainly don’t feel bad doing it all. I am efficient and can back trailer scoop and clear in less than 2 min. Probably takes me longer to run and get the truck and trailer 5 min max

I spent 3 hours in an old kmart parking lot years ago and taught my gf how to back a trailer. she's probably better than me at it. funny all the looks she gets as she drops us in and picks us out. only time she ever balked was at the depere wi launch ramp in the dark as it was not lit real well.

we have the same routine as twkoehn and it works.

I have all the patience in the world for those that are doing it all themselves IF there is a sense of urgency with them. the guy that does it all with the family sitting idly by watching and then proceeds to load the boat, pack it up and do everything else while the ramp is full annoys the crap out of me. or the one that offloads his boat just off the trailer, ties it up at the dock so no one else can back in until he parks and comes back while his family stands on the dock....
some people really have no consideration for others.

I am with Larry I never back down the ramp or pull the boat up the ramp with out the winch and safety line hooked. I have seen way to many boats sitting on the ramp to mess around with that. That being said I don’t have a problem being patient with people who are trying to back a trailer at the ramp. I am sure they have practiced else where but for some reason the “pressure” builds at the ramp. What bothers me is the people that sit in their truck and get pissed at someone trying and don’t get out and try to help. I always feel that the rush at the ramp is nonsense anyways. I mean I get it in a fishing tourney situation but also just show up early enough to launch your boat. Lol.

For those that do have an issue with getting a person to back the trailer you, Ford has a solution to your problem on the F150 and the coming 2020 Super Duty [emoji6]

Being a Ford guy I had to throw that in there lol

I guess I missed that step above, I jump to the front and attach the bow strap and crank it tight before my wife pulls us out. However, when we unload I usually unhook the strap before backing down the ramp. That way we back in, whoever is in the boat, usually my 14 year old, takes the boat off the trailer and I pull the trailer out without getting out of the Yukon. Entire unloading process takes 30 seconds once we are on the ramp.

She expressed long ago that she has no desire to learn how to back a trailer but she is very good at driving the boat on and off. Now we too, use the strap until the boat is floating and attach it as soon as the boat is on the trailer. I've seen people do it the other way and it is slick watching the boat just slide off the trailer as soon as the truck stops but with my luck the boat wouldnt started and my wife would be adrift all by herself at the launch lol. And yes, I have also seen those pictures of boats sitting on the concrete at the ramp.

i would NEVER take the strap off and back down the ramp. That is a recipe for disaster unless you know your ramp or its not steep. I recently saw someone do this and the boat came off right on the ramp. Needed a bobcat to move it.

twkoehn
02-19-2019, 09:49 AM
I would never back down without the strap unless I was sure it was safe. We always use the same ramp and I tried it several times after loosening the strap without it having moved an inch before feeling confident enough to unhook it altogether. If we would ever go to a different ramp, I would not even attempt it.

I taught my wife to back the trailer down when we bought our 1st boat 15 years ago..it is really not that difficult. There is no reason on earth why anyone's wife cannot back a trailer down a ramp...we are not talking open heart surgery here. Most trucks/tow vehicles have at least a backup camera these days to help see the trailer when the boat is not on there. I know the newer Fords all have the trailer backup system, my buddy's truck has that and his wife handles it easily with this feature. It annoys the s--t out of me as well to see 5 people holding the boat at the ramp while the guy jumps out of the boat and goes to get the truck. Teach your wife or someone in your crew to back the trailer down for f--k sake.

ok. best ones to watch are the 2 guys standing at the ramp in jean cutoff shorts, full socks, tennis shoes and a wifebeater trying to figure out how to launch or retrieve a bass boat or low-pro jetboat with headers over the transom while NOT EVER getting a drop of water on themselves :)
the length some will go to ensure they never touch water while spending a day surrounded by it and on it.

the jet guys r funny putting the boat in for 3 runs back and forth, pulling it out and standing around in the launch parking lot for 3 or 4 beers talking about how long the rooster tail was today :)

No, they are not the cheapest, but they are the best looking IMO.

They have the official Moomba font and can do flakes and multi-color.

Hard to see in the pic but I did a black metallic flake with the yellow surround.

Yep that’s what I’m doing. Probably pacific blue with white outline.

They have pretty much all the Moomba colors preloaded on their site. $80 is a small price to pay for how finished they make the boat look.

What is the typical timeframe when I can expect to get a build number from SC?You should receive the build number from your dealer within a week of closing your build.

If you are lucky, your dealer may have a slot for an inventory build that could be swapped to get you into yours sooner...

We closed on the deal last week, although I did change my trailer color of the weekend and dealer said they would make the change Tuesday.

Dealer was also working with SC to move me up slots to replace an inventory build.

I was just curious about how long the processessing takes before building starts. Sounds like I should expect my build number any day now! Thanks for the info.

It really depends on when the spray date is for the slot they got you into. There is a point where you can’t no longer change things and when you get inside that window is when it is locked in and gets a number and an actual production date. At least that was my experience.

I was thinking of adding the storage bins but I think I'm just going to get them at a later time or come up with something else to add side trays. I'm glad I'll see it near completion and not just a shell more or less. I asked my dealer to see if Cindy would take some initial pictures during the early construction page and looking forward to those. Obviously I know i cant post them online but it's going to be cool seeing it get born. First time I've ever had something custom made spec'd to order. Pretty cool feeling and I'm sure seeing it during the tour will be icing on the cake!

that's odd for ski safe. granted we are an older boat but '14 with agreed value of 70k plus trailer. 3 month layup. stored offsite. generous limits and believe we are at 1k deductible and it's under $400 for the year. I know if you don't choose the layup option it becomes quite a bit more but it's pretty easy to not use it for 3 months in the dead of winter with thanksgiving/christmas and other trips in the way.

Hello all! Great thread, we are looking at ordering a boat probably toward the end of this year. We've narrowed it down between the max or the craz. I'm leaning more towards the max my wife likes the traditional bow look of the Craz. We have two small children so I think the playpen on the max would be better suited for them. My question is how do you all think a Nissan Titan would pull either one of these boats?

The truck can tow it, but the factory hitch can’t. I added the Nissan towing guide below for you to read. Double check your hitch tag and maybe your model year, Nissan fixed this.

But in 2017, the factory hitch is only rated for 5000#. Your hitch, draw bar and ball need to be rated for what you are towing.

https://owners.nissanusa.com/content/techpub/common/2017/2017-nissan-towing-guide.pdf

The good news is there are a couple hitch options. Although still class3 rated, they are rated for 8000#.

To the Max owners, what were some of the first modifications you guys did to the boat or suggest doing? I'm assuming adding more weight? Do you remove the factory bags and buy new or just piggy back? We have a small crew with limited board storage needs at this point. Are the board racks something we can add later? I couldnt seem to find any of the a3 racks for sale. As for the audio, I'm thinking of just having the wires added to the tower and doing my own speakers. What size amp is included with that option? Lots of questions feel free to add any other thoughts. I grew up with boats just not these types so most things are foreign. Thanks!

I don't have my Max yet but as far as ballast upgrades go Max owners either swap out rear bags and go with Wakemakers Max upgrade or they leave stock bags in and piggyback midship bags under the seats. Some people don't upgrade ballast at all but I'm a bigger guy and will need a bigger wave lol. You can also add extra lead wake (steel shot) in the bow or other places to help add weight while retaining storage and ability to easily move weight around to fine tune the wave or wake.

The A3 tower has a place made for bolting up certain wakeboard racks without having to use the towers tubing. I'm not sure if all wakeboard racks can mount to it. We opted not to get the racks because I personally am not a fan of the look, hassle or all that associated with racks so we are using the surf pockets on top of the bimini to store boards. Any extra boards we will put in the boat but we usually have a small crew so I don't see this being an issue for us. I'm sure someone will chime in on what racks you can add after the fact should you want them later on.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by the subwoofer output. I think this will be plenty of bass for our family as we aren't trying to rattle fillings loose and win any cove basshead awards :D. F1 package sounded good to me. I went with the F2 package which amplifies everything so it should sound even better than this one did.
