time for a new ride, i wish it was a boat, but it is a truck.

I get a new truck every several years. I have had Rams for the past years, they have been great, but I will be in a Chevy this time. I should have the new ride about the first of April. I have usually added a small lift/level to the rams to help the appearance. I do not usually go bigger tires, i drive about 45k a year, so i generally keep a more passive highway friendly tire on.

I do not plan to change the tires out until they wear out, I'm just kind of cheap that way. I think the stock is 265/70-17. I may go a little bigger on the next set of tires.

the Chevy, to me, seems to sit lower. should i do the 2" level, or should i go a little more and do a 4" lift? will the higher lift and stock tires look like a gaping hole?

If your going to get a 1500 you should wait until the 2019 comes out this fall. They are making a trail boss edition which comes from the factory with a 2” suspension lift and all terrain tires. But you should really just get a duramax hah.

This is my old 2015 Chevy 1500 4x4. Z71 is a waste if you're gonna lift/level.
Chevys IFS front end leaves much to be desired in my opinion. I loved that little truck but the ride was terrible.
As far as sitting lower, Chevy uses a front valence on the bumper for gas mileage. Most people take them off, but the updated front end it's not removable I think. That's the biggest ground clearance killer.
I had a rough country 2.75" level in the front with 20x10 -12 Fuels and 305/55/20. There's just not many options out there for the Chevy. Just pick a brand and go for it. They're all the same. If you go anything over 2-3" you'll have to use a subframe drop lift which completely negates lifting in the first place.
Make sure whatever kit you go with if you stay with a sub 3" level comes with new upper control arms. You'll max the upper ball joints in a hurry. Not a part you want to shear off going over a bump with the chevys limited front wheel travel.
As long as you're not looking for a bigger tire you'll be good. Those f%#^*ng square fender wells make fitting anything aftermarket hard without a positive offset Wheel.
The 5.3 with the 6 speed is a great towing combo. If you can stretch to the higher trim with the 6.2L/8spd combo, it's money... plus, the 6.2 is virtually indestructible in truck trim with the lower compression.

And I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings with a Chevy! I still love them! Anxious to get ahold of the new '19 and see what it's got going on.
My brother has a '14 1500 I did all the work on. We've been a GM family our whole lives. This is all just my take on this stuff from years of aftermarket work.
I go through trucks regularly, build, sell, repeat. It's a horrible habit to break!
