As an Engineer, I can assure you that the hitch rating was established by SAE specification J684.
There is safety factor, but, typically I would not want to rely upon that factor towing a mortgage or my family.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Safety factor, that’s the word he used. Sorry to bring this up, just had no idea and thought it was interesting.
So what’s your recommendation? See if GM can change the hitch out for one rated higher?

I suggest shopping for a class 4 hitch and install it yourself. Last place I would go to rectify this situation is the dealer. Most dealers will not be qualified to fix this for you.
What vehicle do you have again?

Your fine, don't need to replace the hitch. We have had 3 suburbans 2 of the previous generation and 1 of the current generation and now the Denali. It's more about the tongue weight than the total weight. The main thing I would buy is an solid hitch and ball vs a hollow one. Get a 2" drop or adjustable one as the GM triplets hitch pint is high.

Are you assuring that towing 6000# with a class 3 hitch is “fine” or just that it worked fine for you.

The truck 16 had the heavy tow package and was rated the same as the current Denali. The 07 and 13 unsure of the hitch spec back then, I will say it worked for me and many others as I have not heard of anyone I know ever changing a hitch on a Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon that I know of. Now if GM I could convince myself the GM big brake kit will help the stopping power on the hills of TN I will add to the current truck or order a 2020 with them as I should have 100K miles on the 18 sometime that year

man, 70 miles 1 way would put a ton on a car. we sold our house we rebuilt 2 months ago and moved into a rental while we find our next project. it's 1.3 miles from work.
gas mileage average in my '16 silverado has dropped from 17-18 from the last house to 12 currently. I don't think it has enough time to warm up. that 1.3 mile drive has 4 lights.
I'm thinking about buying one of these:

The reinforcements between a class 3 and 4 hitch on a f150 seem easy to add for someone looking to add piece of mind and strengthen where a class 3 would begin to fail.

It appears everyone of the Ford hitches in that thread is only a class 3. 500# tongue and 5000# weight carrying is class 3 and what is important in our boat applications.
Nobody tows a wakeboat with weight distribution
The interesting post in that thread was the guy who was towing over the 500/5000# rating and his hitch failed.
Word is that Ford has corrected the 2019+ hitch and made a class 4 (1000/10000) available. Next time I am at the dealer, I will snap a picture of the hitch tag.

Things like this tick me off about Ford. They seem to cut corners all the time with stuff like this. It’s a TRUCK. They tout the eco boosts best in class towing capacity and then they install that hitch. Lol
We almost bought an explorer sport as another family car, until we learned that Ford cut corners there too. When the IIHS started doing small overlap tests they only did it on the driver’s side. So Ford only reinforced that side of the car. When the passenger side small overlap was released, the Explorer failed miserably. Look it up on YouTube. It’s bad.
I’ve been an EMT for only a short time but I’ve seen a couple of these types of crashes, and one was fatal (for the front passenger). I get that companies cut corners to maximize profit, but when they do it with safety (which includes towing) I can’t look past that.

This is a post I made on our jet boat forum for how I plan to tackle the stupid factory class III F150 tow hitch. Hopefully this will help someone else out on here and save them from having to spend a lot of money on the extra hitch that sits below the factory Class III hitch and you also won’t have the weird dual receiver look on your truck. I will post more pics once my new Class IV hitch arrives but here is how I plan to do it from my post on the jet boaters forum....
“Ok after going out in the pouring rain I was determined to see if it is indeed possible transform my tow package F150 bumper to a non-tow package F150 bumper so that I could buy and use a Curt Class IV hitch. And the answer is yessir!!!
Check it out. After looking at the Curt Class IV hitch for an F150 without factory tow package I watched their video and noticed the differences between their bumper and the one that comes on a factory tow package F150. My truck use the lower 3rd bolt where as a non-tow package bumper just uses the middle and upper bolts. This means their bracket is a little shorter than mine which leaves the slot in the frame exposed to mount an aftermarket hitch. The other mounting location they use is up by the top of the spare tire which is fine on either truck package. It's the factory tow hitch and extra bracket material that needs to go...and it's certainly possible. Below I've marked up some screenshots from videos and pics of my truck to explain how I'm going to do this in case anyone else wants or has to do this.
F150 without tow package. He is showing in the etrailer video where you will insert their supplier fasteners once you have the hitch in place.....
http://i.imgur.com/iTo2XlN.jpg
Once you remove the rear bumper you will need to remove the metal bumper caps on each side. This will give you good access to the hitch and brackets where I will cut....
http://i.imgur.com/jAEOxjj.jpg
Below are pics of my truck and factory tow package bumper. I've marked where I will continue cutting the bumper bracket so that is is shaped like a non-factory tow package F150's bumper bracket. Remove bumper like above and cut along this line on both driver and passenger side brackets. After that I should be able to install the Curt hitch. Then I will reverse the steps of dissembling the bumper caps to the bumper and then mount the newly modified bumper bracket assembly to the frame of the truck.”

Cool. I posted this on another forum. I went this way instead. No cutting. Basically just taking off the old hitch and putting on the bumper mount with no hitch.
“2. Remove the stock bumper/hitch assembly and purchase a new assembly w/o the stock hitch (Ford p/n HL3Z17D826D) , basically taking my stock hitch off then and buy the Curt (or similar) class IV hitch and install them both. Pros being it will look and function on the truck a lot better. Cons, more $$ and more work.

I'm aware I could have bought the extra Ford bracketd but I think I can save myself the extra $158 and just cut off what I don't need and then remount the bumper. Nobody would know the wiser unless they looked under my truck and noticed the cut edge. A little black paint and primer should blend it all in. It should function the same as a truck without factory tow package.

Sorry for the delay on getting an updates with the hitch upgrade. Unfortunately yesterday we had to put down our 14 year old family dog and it has been so hard grieving and trying to adjust to life again. :(
I figured this was the perfect time to install the hitch and help keep my mind busy. I've got a bunch of pics I'll post in a more formal thread of its own to be easier for others to search and find in the future but here are some progress pics of removing the rear bumper, cutting off the factory tow hitch and temporarily mounting the Curt Class IV hitch to ensure everything will work. Happy to report this mod will work fine just as I had hoped!

It’s a little odd because it’s listed as a class IV on the window sticker. I wonder if they just have a generic rating because the lower model trucks are limited to this rating. In any case, I’m not going to worry about it.

Nope, it’s a well known Ford issue. Truck can tow 13k but the hitch is only rated to 5k.
I just didn’t want to risk it with an 8000# rig
So I added a 10k hitch. Shitty part is the stock hitch is integral to the bumper.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191109/e32a6ca688585975b644d2a91812825f.jpg
Just not sure on owner liability if the hitch broke and owner was found to have overloaded the factory hitch. I can’t afford paying for my wrecked boat when insurance is rejected.
$150 10k hitch is WELL worth it. It masks well with a hitch plug and some dirt lol.

The hitch is rated for more than 5k. It’s 5k weight carrying but it says 11,600 weight distributing. And the only truck that rated for 13k is the single cab 4x2.

Boats are pulled at the weight carrying rating.
You can’t use a weight distributing hitch on a boat trailer as you can’t back up with a WD hitch. WD hitches are used on travel trailers and construction trailers.
I was in denial when I got my 2018, but the engineer in me took over.

that 105k price is all the boxes checked. vette should be in the low80's once you check a few boxes. stang should be 80-90 for most models. if you could pick up a gt500 for msrp I bet you could flip it for a few bills as dealer markups will have most of them in triple numbers.
3 years later when you are tired of either one I'll take the 'stang. resale on that model should pwn any corvette but the zr1.
did try to find a 2020 vette outside but not a single one to be had. kinda disappointed that a new release like that wouldn't have had a few floating around but they must have all been inside.

I think whether it’s weight carrying or weight distributing the hitch still sees the same tongue weight so I think it’s fine as long as I’m not exceeding my rear axle weight rating (which I’m not), I think it’s fine.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkNot true. The bars on the WD hitch pull the hitch up, reducing the weight on the hitch itself, and transferring it to the front axle.
rdlangston13
11-11-2019, 04:53 PM
Whether it’s transferred to the front axle or not it irrelevant. It takes weight off of the rear axle and transfers it to the front but the hitch is still see the weight, if anything it increases the weight on the hitch because now it’s holding the tongue weight and all the spring tension from the bars

It’s confusing no doubt. My favorite is when truck owner asks the dealer and they say it’s ok. The dealer is about the worst source of information and the last one to accept liability when a hitch fails.
SAE J2807 is the spec. I suggest researching it.
Again, $180 is worth piece of mind.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkThere is a reason that the rating is different. The bars cause the hitch to pull up on the receiver, to an extent, hence NOT carrying the same weight. Imagine you had a receiver resting on a scale. You put a broomstick in and push down - that's regular, weight-carrying hitch, and increases the weight on the scale. Now pull up on the broomstick. That's weight-distributing, and reduces weight on the scale.
But like Larry said, your truck, your decision, your liability. A better hitch is simply cheap insurance.

I feel like that’s a way over simplification of the forces at work here. If that were the case then the tow vehicle would end up lighter with the trailer than without which does not happen. What a weight distribution hitch does is reduce the vertical pivot in the ball which allows tongue weight to be shared among all 3 axles however the rear axle of the tow vehicle still carries most of the tongue weight but all of the added weight to the vehicle is supported by the hitch still. There is no way to take a 1160 lb tongue weight and get the trailer axles to support 660 lbs of it. It would be cool to see someone test all of our theories with scales though

It's been done, many times. Take a truck and trailer to the scales with a WD hitch. Weigh the rear axle with the WD bars disconnected, and then connect them and see the difference. It shifts some weight to the front axle, and the rear axle weight, as well as the weight felt by the hitch, is lessened. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191111/af389b371bf8ae601291934f85732dfc.jpg

1. Added the digital temperatures above the analog gauges for engine coolant and transmission
2. Enabled the Lincoln auto fold mirrors
3. Enabled the fog lights to stay on with the high beams
4. Disabled the double honk when you get out of the truck with key in your pocket while it’s running
5. Added heated/cooled seat controls to the SYNC3 home screen
6. Changed the lane change signal from 3 to 5 flashes

Probably need to trade it in soon. I had a 2wd Tundra before and pulled a 2003 moomba lsv with no problems ever, so I didnt think I needed 4wd. Last time at the boat ramp it was struggling getting grip to pull the boat up the ramp. It took several attempts and burnouts to finally get up. I guess there is a big difference between pulling the Max and an old lsv [emoji50].28512

2wd trucks on a boat ramp would freak me out.
When the algae gets built up on the ramp and your rear wheels get on the wet algae, there is nothing that will prevent your whole rig from sliding into the lake once you get out of the truck.
When the ramp gets slick, I engage the front axle to hold the truck.

The old ecoboost seems to do just fine pulling the Moomba. Never noticed a hunger for power. Little things got plenty of torque. I still have concerns about long term durability of a turbo engine vs the naturaly aspirated V8, but so far so good. Hasn't let me down. I wont worry bout it until start approaching 100k+ miles. I take good care of it and outside of hauling the boat, I do not drive it hard, so I expect it to last for my needs. Don't think I would get it if it was a truck used for work such as regular heavy loads/construction/landscaping business, and that sort of thing. Bur for the weekend warrior its more than adequate and I'm pretty happy with it.

Y'all would have laughed... and cringed... hard when I was launching my 7k lb boat/trailer combo with my 2006 non-tow-packaged 4 pinned (no brake control) Tacoma 2wd a couple times a week last year. Waaaay over the limits (Don't worry, used the wife's escalade for anything over those 200 yards .... braking with the tacoma even under 5 mph was legit scary, especially on tar chip). Granted I was going all of 200 yards from storage to dock. Learned how to force that open diff to transfer torque quite well. Only problem, it always had to be me... hard to teach a buddy on the fly. Ram pulls it great to the dealer when rarely needed, kind of sad I do not tow that often as the surround cameras are fantastic on new trucks.

I did the bags mainly because with the level, I don’t want the rear sagging below the front when towing the boat. And the convenience of the onboard compressor with a remote control with presets is amazing.

rd, looks good. I've been contemplating doing something with the chevy. the ramps here are super shallow and my ass end is in the water when dumping the boat so want to get it a little higher with a bigger hitch drop.
I think the way you went is what I have been looking at. any downside to the "lift" in the front? really want this truck to run another 10 years for me and seems there's pros and cons to even a slight lift.

It’s only been on for a day so I don’t have a good review yet. I think that the increased angle on the front CV joints can cause them to maybe wear out earlier. I think if I were going to do it again I would use the next setting down in the struts instead of the max lift. The front ended up being almost a little higher in the rear and I had bump the unloaded bag pressure from 5 to 15 psi to get the rear about 1/2” higher than the front. The ride doesn’t seem worse and I’ve heard the 5100s help when towing even.

I regret not doing a control arm upgrade with my 3” lift. Adjustable struts are nice, but the right sized control arms maintain the front wheel offset and CV angle. CV angle reduction in IFS systems is often done with a differential drop spacer when lift is under 3”, and wheel offset is usually accommodated by new wheels with machined offsets in these types of lifts/levels. Ball joint wear is a definite concern, and I’ve lost stability.
A consideration in lifting the rear is to drop the carrier bearing accordingly to reduce the driveline angle.
I did a 3” spacer kit in front and Toytec adjustable shackles in the back. I’m not a fan of trucks having rake, and I think RD did a good job of leveling out. On my truck I first went with 1”, but preferred the 1.5” rear lift.
When adding a compressor, assess the location for the compressor and the intake. Submerging the compressor on our Range Rover cost me $3k. A very bad design and system leak got the best of me.

not looking to go overly crazy. maybe 1.5" and level out the back but also don't want to dump a grand or 2 into a lift and don't want to see increased wear on the front end. ya I know- cake and eat it too :) weighing that between having to dump the back every time we launch and frankly rc's truck looks much better in the after pics. our f250SD stock is much taller than the chevy and want a nice inbetween which rc looks to have found :)

Not sure what size Chevy you have but on my 3500 I cranked the bars in the front just enough to get them off the bump stops and help the ride.
If you look close there is a frame stop on the UCA of the GM trucks and you want at least 3/4" gap in both directions. It can be aligned after that and not cause any premature wear.
I wanted a lift so badly but 33's are expensive enough and going to 35's or 37's would have ruined towing. I already use a 6" drop receiver to pull level. I bought 5100's and keys and called it a day. I needed shocks anyway so that was justified and $100 for keys was certainly less than $2K. I am only lifted 1-1.25" in the front so close to your desired result and being a 3500 the rear is so stiff there is no sagging. I run level with 4K worth of mulch or dirt in the bed after the mods.

I had a GMC 2500 with a leveling kit installed. It was done by a professional, and prior to me purchasing the truck used. I ran the truck to 100k miles with no premature wear or any problems at all. I will say though, my truck always got terrible highway gas mileage compared to others with the same truck. It always made wonder if the leveling kit changed the wind drag and caused me to loose 1 or 2 mpg. Or maybe I just have a lead foot. Either way, trucks look much better leveled out in my opinion. I love the air bag idea because I can’t stand seeing the front ride higher than the rear when towing.

Leveling absolutely kills mpg, the massive air dams on trucks and rake angle is for mpg.
Heavy tires are a mpg killer too, LT’s are much heavier that P metric.
LT’s are 20# heavier than the same same size p metric

I hadn't given that any thought. Good point!
My new DMax is leveled it looks great but the MPG are less than I would have expected for a tuned deleted truck, maybe this plays a role.
Gotta love a diesel though, 14mpg around town and 14mpg pulling a loaded 30' gooseneck down the interstate.

I wouldn’t sweat the loss in mpg unless I was running mostly highway miles. Leveling just looks good.
LT tires on a 3/4 ton+ are required obviously, but I would never put them on a 1/2 ton mainly due to significant loss of ride quality.

My 2020 Dmax was getting 20 mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 79-80 (most of the time) around town 14 mpg. No tune, just factory. Been pretty happy with it. I honestly haven’t paid much attention with the new rims and 35’s on it though. Probably less now.

This is for those who own a Ford and want to REALLY know how much your truck can tow. We know the advertised towing capacity is affected by cabin size, bed size, accessories, 4x4vs 2x4, etc.
Well, if you a own an F-series truck, guess no more.
Go here and enter your VIN and you'll get the answer straight from Ford.

I have not seen any mpg drop yet since leveling. And I cut off about 2/3 to 3/4 of that air dam. I just hated how it looked so low in the front, I wish it had the skid plate that went up to the front bumpers like the raptors and such. In June I am planning on new tires and I am confident that that is where my fuel mileage hit is going to come from. Looking at going with Toyo Open Country AT3 in either 285/60 R20 (33.5") or 295/60R20 (33.9"). Tough decisions!

If you stay in the P metric in the AT3’s you won’t lose much mileage at all.
You won’t notice mpg loss from any lift in city driving. Possibly in sustained highway driving.

I've run sets of those in the past.
My current go-to are the Ridge Grapplers.
Really good streetable hybrid tire. More agressive than an AT, less annoying than an MT and tremendous wear resistance with regular rotations. I have about 45k on my current set and they come in load E rating.

It's worth cross shopping the Falken Wildpeak at3w... pretty quiet for a AT and you still get an aggressive looking sidewall. There is also a mud version.
If you aren't concerned about having that "off road" look, then the Continental TerrainContact A/T are ridiculously awesome. Currently running them on my Tahoe and they have been stellar.

The conti T/C A/T’s are outstanding and don’t look bad at all, got them on my 02 Sierra.
I get all conti tires 1/2 price.
The wild peaks look great if you want to that more aggressive look.
The toyo OC AT3’s also are great and a huge upgrade to the AT2 variant, the 2’s were dangerously bad in wet conditions.
The nitto grapplers also give that aggressive look and great performance.
I will likely opt for the Toyo AT3’s when my 2021 F150 arrives, although at this rate it will be a 2022.

As RC stated the Ridge Grappler is a nice tire.
I have the Toyo R/T which is basically the same thing as the Ridge Grapplers. I run LT255/80r17 E-rated on my dually. (33x10) After 35K miles and running on bad front shocks for 5K of those, they still have 12-15K miles left to go.
Drop down to LT275/65r20 (34x10.5) and your choices increase and your price decrease at Discount Tire. Terra Grappler G2 Load range SL $274/ea Toyo AT3 Load E $329

I had to Google it after reading this and Car and Driver has spy video so you can hear it. Certainly sounds of mustang blood. I have always loved the v8 Raptors.
I just hope they do give it some towing ability. I have seen several Raptors trying to tow, and with the Fox suspension that truck is made to run 100mph across sand and dirt not pull. I wonder if they will do something similar to GM's magnetic ride control to stiffen the rear while pulling the camper to the dunes, then back to sport mode to go jump said dunes.

Yeah, not really a tow pig but gobs of suspension travel. There will be new dampers from Fox but I'm not sure they are of the magnetorheological type.
Also, depending on if you choose 37"s or 35"s....the shock diameter is larger, as is the frame to accomodate a 37" spare.
Kinda interesting, Ford had to modify the assembly line for the Raptors on 37s to come through.

been doing some research into magride as we look at sports cars. ford already has a license to the technology and is using it although chevy keeps the newest/latest tech for their cars/suv's. it won't do much for towing from what I have read. some of the guys towing regularly are deleting magride to add air ride as some feedback that aftermarket air ride messes with the sensors for magride. chevy offers both on some higher end models as magride won't stop the squat hooking up a heavy trailer.

The interior didn't change much from '11 to '16 either. I am pretty sure MY '23 was the original plan for the refresh.
That is a tough decision to make....I have been wrestling with the same thought as to go 150 or 250 in 2022-2023. Having had both, each has it's advantages as it has been debated for pages on here and both are solid trucks.

Just tried pro trailer back assist, very cool but it completely fights my natural backing skill set.
It’s accurate, easy, but odd and slow, I can back it twice as fast with a fraction of the steering input.
You need a lot of side to side truck clearance using PTBA, the front end of the truck wags like a dogs tail.
Found another few crazy features, when in trailer tow mode, the truck automatically applies park brake whenever you stop, I imagine it helps prevent unwanted rolling at stop light, stop and go traffic and on the boat ramp.
Also, if truck is in gear and you are stopped and take off your seatbelt, as soon as you open door, it moves the shifter lever to park.

2021 F150 has an automatic brake hold feature. After playing with it some, this is a GREAT feature for slippery boat ramps.
Example: you back boat into water with rear tires in the water, front tires still dry, you apply the brake pedal enough to hold at a stop, as soon as you release the pedal it will maintain the line pressure for the foundation brakes, thus locking all 4 calipers, effectively a brake line lock. This is far superior than just the rear axle park brake.
Great option for 2wd owners on slick ramps.
But you have to shut it off if you use an automatic car wash (I never use them) as your brakes are locked even if you shift to neutral.

larry_arizona
05-09-2021, 09:35 AM
Edit to above: When hill hold feature is actively holding brake line pressure, if you shift to park, I think I can feel the rear electric park brake engage and the front brake line pressure release.
Argh, this may not help on slick ramp after all.
You would have to leave transmission in drive to maintain brake line pressure to all 4 calipers......talk about a leap of faith LOL.

Nice truck. So now, do you have to get a different sensor for each trailer you own.? With the checkered sticker you get of bunch of stickers to use on diff trailers. Pretty cheap compared to a sensor, or is the sensor magnetic and can be swapped between trailers.?
Nice interior, makes my truck look dated. Congrats.
Sure would be nice if PTBA didn’t need decals or a sensor mounted on trailer. Just sayn......hint hint.......

I always thought the reason to own a diesel was gas mileage towing(aside from the obvious tow ratings). granted not apples to apples but my 5.3 silverado 4x4 averaged 10mpg's towing the tige from green bay to slc and I never let the speed drop below 70, 80 most of the trip. got 13.4 2 months ago from orange county to vegas towing a uhaul car hauler with our camaro on it and I averaged between 80 and 85 all the way here.
not gonna lie tho. if I was in the market for a new whip, the ecodiesel in the dodge 1500 would be on the radar.

I personally could care less amount fuel mileage. Power is way more important to me. I can’t really speak to the new ecoboost motors and the larger gas motors that GM and Ford have now. What I can tell you is I had a 1/2 ton Chevy with the 5.3 and then a 3/4 ton GMC with the 6.0. Both were total dogs. I was very disappointed in the 6.0, and I could not wait to get rid of that truck. No power, and got 6 mpg towing the boat. I assume the diesel will get better mileage after it breaks in a little. It only has 6,000 miles on it. I am sure others are getting better mileage that don’t have a lead foot either. I was following my buddy pulling a G23 with a 2019 F350 dually and he got 13 mpg.

Our Yukon XL loaded with family of 4, 2 dogs, crap for the week, boat, lead, and toys was no issue but it was certainly working. We only have the 5.3L in that thing so had to keep it in 2nd or 3rd getting from the highway to the lake house.

EB3.5
The 3.5 with 3.55 did great in the hills in Kentucky and Tennessee.
The development we stayed in had some insane hills. I missed the driveway of the Airbnb we rented and had to turn around and go up a 16% (went back after the fact and measured with truck inclinometer)grade winding subdivision street. Honestly who on earth would even make a 16% grade road ever. The steepest grade I have ever witnessed.
Fully loaded bed,3 adults and a dog, plus SA with full tank and 600# lead. I had the accelerator matted and maybe got 10 mph coming up that 16% grade.
If I did that hill again, manual shift to 1 and make sure the turbos spooled.

Larry, have you done anything to your f150 to accommodate the squaring ? I have a 19 F150 5.0 with max tow package. I still get some squatting in the back. Was thinking about air bags or timbren bump stops. The 5.0 has no issue pulling the bait , just wanting to be as safe as I can with the f150.
The Timbrens won’t do anything for squatting other than make rough terrain more tolerable. I put them on my Tundra, and I haven’t bottomed out yet, but they did nothing for ride height.

Air bags will make your truck look level but it doesn’t add the weight back to the front axle.
Only a weight distributing hitch will add weight back to front axle and add weight to the trailer axels and reduce weight from rear axle.

Our Yukon has air shocks coupled with the max tow package springs. It helps a lot to keep everything level and load secure. But as far as weight distribution, there is none. We still had a pin weight of ~600 plus gear overtop the rear axle. Tow rating is ~8,000lbs and hitch is rated for 1K pin and 10K pull.
I bought a Curt Rebellion cushioned hitch for the trip and future towing needs I can swap between wife's rig and my truck. It worked great over bumps/dividers in the highway, it also reduced banging when going up and down the mountain roads. It is rated at 10K with 2" and 15K with 2-5/16". I got the turnover style so I have both for each trailer setup.

One year we rented a house close to the parking lot and dock in that sub division. Lower section.
Everyday someone would drop-off and pick-up everyone at the dock. Nobody wanted to walk the hills.
I still keep my permit b/c my buddy keeps his Supra there. We still head up 1-2x/month for day trips.

I was in Lone Mountain. Between Straight Creek and Jimmy's but closer to Jimmy's.
We spent most of our time past the Railroad bridge just right of Lone Mountain dock.....Glass for miles.
It’s a big venture just driving in that sub division. My friends just put their house on the market in there. Roads just keep going and going.
Love that side of the lake.

Ha ha. Norris can be an adventure for sure. I always try to map out my route and ask as many questions as I can regarding to route to the boat ramp and the house. I have found myself in precarious situations more than once down there. Once I had my ‘04 Chevy 5.3 floored in 1st gear and didn’t think I was going to make it up a hill to the house. Then the next day I found a much easier route around that road. [emoji30]. Roads can suck, but the lake is great. Back in the 90’s and early 2000’s it was way less crowded though. The north side is garbage on the weekend for any water sports after 10am.

I have friends that just made their vacation home their permanent home in Lone Mountain Shores. We were seriously thinking about investing there also. Having them know the area for the last 20yrs, they are looking to help us see what is available. The south side of Norris is so calm compared to the Powell area.

If you ever get into Lone Mountain.....try Whistle Valley to Timber Creek to Chimney Rock. Not only are you pulling 10-12% all the time, you have hairpin turns and then you have to get back down.....lol
Would go back right now though...let's not fool ourselves :) The view if you make the climb (boatless), is priceless!

Well after thinking my 1500 was plenty it’s dead.
2018 gmc Denali 1500 6.2l V8 8 speed.
2 injectors failing at 38k miles
Not covered under my bumper to bumper warranty
The parts are unavailable and they couldn’t put an exact time frame on how long it would take to get them until they blew the truck apart
Already sold the truck as is though thank gosh for this crazy market

Absolutely should be covered by powertrain warranty. Factory injectors are like $60 each and available

Pretty much everything on the truck is covered. Except the injectors. Also I read up on it apparently this is pretty common with that truck. The whole thing put a bad taste in my mouth so I think I’m going to go Ford or ram. Probably Ford. Also diesel this round
Also quoted the job between $800-2500

sure it's the same as the 6.2 in my 'maro. injectors fall under the emissions warranty of 3/50k-lots of guys that have had luck getting them swapped out for that piece of the warranty but sometimes with some dealers it takes some "pushing".
assume with an '18 that your inservice date is prior to the issue coming up?

I have changed injectors on many of vette's and trucks. It takes 1-2 hrs to do all of them, pressure test/leak test, and back to driving. Parts can be bought aftermarket at better quality and while you are there throw a turner to it and be able to tow better.
I hope you didn't lose you a$$ on selling it. It was clearly a $300 fix at most from any good shop (non-dealer).
Summit racing has them in stock also.

I came out smiling, actually didn't really lose any money at all
It wasn't so much the cost of the repair but the fact they wouldn't stand behind their product and then are the new injectors just going to go out in another 40k miles?
Also I've always been a diesel guy since my last 2005 duramax however haven't been able to justify it so letting it go wasn't hard for me. I live at about 4000' and the lake I go to is 40mins and 1200' so the mountain down is pretty steep. Since I didn't get electric breaks I could use some breaking help anyways.
Im really leaning towards a 2022 F250 platinum right now, used prices are crazy so at least if you order a truck you won't have to overpay?

I'm glad the market was kind to you and you made out good. As far as the anger from not standing by their product, I get it 100%.
If you go Diesel, drive them all. I have been shopping new trucks the last month and they all have good and bad things about them. I haul some heavy equipment in my free time, but nothing that would require a dually with the new load ratings and power output. So getting rid of 2 tires for me is a big maintenance win.
Ford is a good choice and the 10 speed in it and the GM trucks are awesome. I still don't like the super duty interior though. Ram has the interior game, but you have to by the 3500 to get the Aisin trans which ups the price quickly. Good luck shopping. But my LMM Duramax has had zero issues compared to my previous LLY. Hard the knock the GM Duramax powerplant, but they already lost you so....

I believe the 2022 superduty got an interior refresh getting a lot the new F150 features, big screen etc.
Ram and Ford interior crushes the GM interior and GM is rapidly redoing the interior already, looks like 2023 for GM to catch up

Ive always been a "GM guy" however not brand loyal. My brother in law does have a 2020 chevy high country 2500HD I can tug the boat around in some time, we have a 2021 F550 and its been amazing the short time we have had it probably shouldn't compare 250 to a 550 though haha
No experience with the cummins though, did sit in one and it was nice however I wouldn't call it "better"
The short time I've been shopping the way I see it
Ford- 475hp-1000lbtq- 10 speed. EVERY OPTION (in a platinum) $79K
GMC/Chevy- 445hp-910lbtq- 10 speed (Fords right?) No adaptive cruise control or massaging seats. And I Love adaptive cruise. Denali price is like $83K
Ram- 410hp- 1000lbtq- 6 speed (ancient tech) No massaging seats. I have no idea about the trim levels but the limited is also right at $80K
Correct me if im wrong or missing the big picture on anything I haven't shopped big trucks in a long time

You are right there!.
The 6-sp from Dodge is not really old tech but it could use a few more gears to make it as smooth as the 10sp Allison (GM) or Ford. The Aisin is bulletproof and holds up in pulling competitions in stock form.
I have been a "GM Guy" myself for years by default. It just worked out they way when shopping and looking for deals. I like the Fords, but around me you won't get a Platinum for that price. The dealers have limited supplies and are adding $5k or more in fees. $79K is a Lariat with FX4 package.
What I like about the Ford and GM is that to get the "heavy duty" options and towing you can still be in a 3/4-ton truck and not a 1-ton but the Ram factory Air-ride is a nice touch.

The GM heavy duty 10 speed is not related to the light duty 10 speed that Ford shares with GM.
The HD 10 speed is branded as an Allison, but it’s not made by Allison, it is made in house at GM with design coming from Allison.
I would avoid the Ram air suspension like the plague. Extremely problematic.

Good to know about the air-ride.
I have test driven them and the air suspension make the HD truck ride so much better. Just something nice to have over bulky leaf springs.
But there is alway a Kelderman upgrade.....spending other people's money is fun

Good note on the air suspension if I even went ram I thought that would be nice.
Also with the ram you can't get the Aisin until you step up into a 3500 correct?
The GM still has the same 8" screen practically my 18 Denali had where as the 2022 ford gets a new 12" screen and the ram has that practically Tesla screen option so
I have a very good relation with my ford dealership thankfully so no absurd fees, hopefully there wil also be some incentives by the time the truck does arrive
Can also probably get a family discount from a gm so that could be several thousand off.

Correct, Ram 3500 to get the Aisin. Sounds like skip the air-ride and go aftermarket for long term. I have daily driven a 3500 dually for several years, so anything softer than that would be an upgrade for me.
If you have favors you can pull try them all out and see what you like best. Local Ford dealer to me even has a trailer with 8K on it so you can simulate pulling on your test drive. Something you might want to ask about.
