Has anyone modified the trunk of the Outback LS so that a ballast bag can be added with out damaging the fuel tank?

My thought was to build a 2 x 4 platform topped with plywood in the trunk to hold a 400lb sac. I believe by spanning the stringers with the platform this would eliminate the potential for damage to the tank.

Any thoughts or first hand knowledge?

Ps – its at 2001 LS

I did it to my 2001 Mobius, no problems.
I used a 2X12 and a 2X10. I plumbed a some PVC in and valves so I could fill 3 tanks off the factory fill. Of course you have to have a empty pump for each tank.

It worked sweet right up untill I sold it and bought the v-drive!

Bruce, did you flat stack the 2x12 on top of the 2x10 across the trunk floor? And how was the wake with the additional ballast in the rear.

I’m currently running 375 under the rear seat / 375 in the ski locker and 2 - 85’s in the trunk. The wake is ok,,,, but last week when I had a couple more people then usual on board the wake got a lot firmer (had to let out another 5’).

So I’m thinking another 375 / 400 in the trunk and move the 85’s up front somewhere, the wake should be decent?
