As the title says I’m looking at a 2013 SA550 with 100 hrs and swell surf system. It’s listed at 66k usd.

I’m basically looking for a surf monster that I can slam and create some rockin waves. So how does the SA compare to some of the new models? I believe they did a hull change in 2016, how drastic was that. Worth the upgrade? I’m coming from owning a tige r20 and a buddies slammed Z3.

Any other boats I should look for?

This hull is very good for wakeboarding. To get a decent surf wave you will have to slam it upwords to 2,000lbs surf side. I'll find a picture of my '13 with an aftermarket Wakeland surf system installed. 66k is a killer deal though.

1,000lbs plumbed in, 3 more bags, 400, 440 and 350, 2 people in boat.

What’s the wakeland surf system? Similar to swell?
I would really like to keep ballast subfloor. I’m coming from a Z3 with a beautiful wave so don’t want anything worse.

the 2013 SA did not come with a surf system from Skiers Choice, the Wakeland system on mine is from Wakeland manufacturing and is very similar to the Supra Swell system. The system on the boat you are looking at is an after market system as well, might be Wakeland but could be something else.

I just recently purchased a surf side ballast bag from Wakemakers, they say it's 1,595 pounds. I have not had any water in it yet unfortunately. but it will fill the rear locker and come up under the seats.

What year is your Z3? I would guess the Z3 and 2013 - 2015 SA would not be comparable in surf wave. My guess is the Z3 will be better.

The dealer says it’s the swell system and it looks like it too.

It’s a friends 2012 Z3 slammed with a ton of weight.

If the controls for the surf system are through the Supra Vision screen, then maybe it is a one off late model 13 with Swell. If the controls are not tied into the touch screen then it's after market. My controls are on a separate module located on the dash and the Vision Screen has zero interface for it.

It’s off the touch screen.

Anymore wave pics?

You are correct, the SA changed hulls drastically in 2016.

16+ SA is the "modern era" of big deep boats.
13-15 SA is a low slung boat and will be quite a bit different.

I think the 13-15 SA is one of the best looking boats on the water but I wouldn't be shopping it for a surf boat. 66k seems like a solid price but it has been a while since I priced them. It needs to be low, though, because resale will be tougher in the smaller freeboard boats, imo.

I’m not too familiar to the Supra lineup. Are we talking like Tige Z3 to rzx or Nautique 230 to g23?

That is a reasonable way of putting it.

The surf wake looks awesome but the boat is so ugly. I’m sorry I know this is a Moomba forum. I don’t mind the mojo but definitely not the max.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkMalibu lsv, tige z3, are 13+ x30s there price wise?

If the budgets stretches to low 80s, supra se all day.

I liked the appeal of new with warranty so went moomba. We have been very happy.

Find a 15-16 Craz... buy some big bags. Roughly same size as the SA, just not as wide I believe. Get the same surf system. I'd imagine you could find a Craz for under that price.

The pre 16 supra sa with swell can produce a great wave. No doubt. It is a great boat and it sounds like a solid price. I'm not discouraging you away from it by any means. You asked what I'd personally shop against it .... that was my list.

The lack of a surf system which means you need lots of bags or lead is only downside to that sa year model. Cool looking boat with tons of features. Just no surf system.

Generally speaking you need to be in a 2015 or newer to have a surf system. Couple of 2014 models with it but not many.

Stretch budget to 80 to 85 and you open up a ton of amazing boats.

At that budget, if surf monster is your goal, I️ would humbly submit this is not the boat. There are indeed some bonafide surf monsters available there. Some with systems, some not.

Thanks, but even if you paid for shipping it’d still probably the cheapest 17 you’ll find. I sold my last boat to a guy in Canada.

If my VLX ever moves, I will definitely be considering driving up for yours or a new one and your a hike from me!

The only way I’ll buy a boat not from a dealer is if mine sells and winter just hit so I can’t see it happening.

How would this Supra SA compare to a 2015 fx22 centurion?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Broke Pilot
11-04-2017, 10:36 PM
The Centurion will no doubt surf better out of the box, however...
The fit and finish of the Supra is going to be night and day different. I was extremely disappointed in Centurion when we were looking. I was pricing Ri237, Fi23 and a left over 15 fx22. Nothing worked even sitting on the trailer at the dealer. There was hardware down in the bilge from carpet popping off, stereos wouldn't play, screens were fuzzy...
California is not the place to build boats with all their regulations on air quality with the glues, sealants etc it takes to build a boat. Plus that Correct Craft price! Holy cow...

flynnva
11-05-2017, 12:41 PM
I second that the Centurions fit and finish is lacking. While I was shopping the sub 100k boats, I was looking at a Supreme S238 and really liked most of the boat but the fit and finish was a turn off. There was a Centurion on the floor next to it that the dealer was pushing me towards. Once looking that over, it appeared the same finish issues that I saw on the Supreme carried over to the Centurion. The Moomba line seemed to be built a lot better than the Supreme and Centurion.

SurferCole
11-05-2017, 04:38 PM
Yeah centurion lacks a bit compared to Supra or Tige.

I’m mainly just concerned about the wave, I can spend a bunch of time in the boats just getting out for a surf might be next to impossible.
