Anyone know whether the new 2018 helix surf exhaust pipe can be put on the 2016? is the only source for oem parts the local dealer?

Have you spoke with them lately? Ive seen their work with the OEMs trickle over into their direct to consumer offerings.

I have one (an FAE) on my new SE. You never see it—super strong, works great. The bracket isn’t noticeable. Plus, you could make your own if it bothered you. The pipe itself is great.

I asked my dealer about a factory surf pipe... over $1k! So stupid.
I'd like to see the FAE on one

I will see if I have a pic. It really didn’t quiet it much for the in boat passengers—as the boat was really pretty darn quiet. Maybe 20%? When surfing it is for sure quieter—easier to hear the JLs for sure. I wanted the steam and tiny bit of smell to go away for the surfer, which it easily did.

I was quite impressed how quiet the SE was in factory form. This just put the icing on the cake so to speak.

Ive installed 4 over the years and never had to drill one hole in the boat.

Could be different on the models over the years. Pretty sure there are 4-6 screws where the FAE metal insert attaches to the exhaust outlet.

Like this on my buddies 24ssv. Look at this post - Pics like #37 and #39.

You might need some type on angle attachment to your drill to get the holes started straight in the exhaust flange.

There is not much room under there.

Can you double check your link. What im seeing in posts #37 and #39 in that linked thread, is a home made exhaust pipe, not an FAE.

You are correct - that is a homemade system.

When my buddy installed his FAE, the directions had the same connection as seen in that post.
I do not think the company lists them online. Might have a email about it.

As you said: no holes in the transom.

Just go straight through FAE and it would have been half that cost. Solid dealer 100% markeup!

Ive had FAE on my own boat, as well as installed a few for others, Ive been in and surfed behind, plenty of other boats with FAE and even OEM surf pipes. It does reduce the exhaust noise but ive never found the FAE to increase engine noise in the boat.

Dealer is selling oem exhaust. The fae is aftermarket. I wonder if they could void warranty with the aftermarket fae? I though about just buying oem from dealer so that there is not any issues.

KnoxMojo

No, it doesn't void your warranty. The factory surf pipe comes from FAE as I understand it. But I could be wrong, my wife tells me I am all the time.

Well to be honest, it reduces the loud exhaust noise, thats covering up the engine noise. When you knock down the dbs from the exhaust you'll notice the less noisy engine.. Lol

I know the owner of FAE and they supply OEM surf pipes for a different brand of tow boats but not OEM for Skier’s Choice. Would be cool if they teamed up in the future. I think most people prefer the FAE pipe based on past experience with the product. Many people who have surfed over the past several years before OEMs were installing surf pipes had FAEs hanging off the back of their boats. I did.....

Got my FAE installed by the dealer last weekend. They Ordered FAE for kit for $600 and then 3 hours labor so about $1000. They said they wouldnt void the warranty vs the OEM pipe that was $1000 in materials alone. Paid for them to install for added assurance on warranty. WIll post pics and vid after this weekend's test.

Do you know how I can get a discount code? Wishing I would have just added the pipe from the factory when I ordered the boat. I notice a decent amount of exhaust behind mine.

The FAE is a high quality product and the install is not very complicated. Plan for a couple of hours and you will forget that you once had fumes behind the boat.

I just installed my FAE on the Max last weekend.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180618/6d9aab6babe4592c1c310b4a6fea8cbe.heic

What does the extra plate around the factory exhaust do? It does look better being curved vs the welded in angles.

From FAE about that-
It's a spray relief plate to cut down on spray that the system produces/can produce. While the 2018 Moomba surf exhaust is designed based on the FAE, we did not have a say in design specs on their current design. Our team has been testing our systems since 2004 and work to build our systems with optimal placement so that spray does not occur, meaning for the vast majority of FAE, a spray plate is not necessary.

I'm thinking about going this route to not cause any issues with the factory warranty. About how much was the pipe + installation?
