Rub rail

Any tips on keeping the black rub rail on side of boat looking black? Tried majic marker but a couple tie ups at different docks and it's looking all scruffy again.

Green scotchbrite followed by 1500 grit sandpaper then "back to black" by mothers.

A rag dipped in acetone will get it clean in a hurry, just keep it off the gelcoat (also works nicely on gray rub rails and windshield gaskets).

I'll have to give the mothers a try too. I'm assuming the sandpaper is to get the surface smooth?
