Well, been boat shopping with the wife and you guys have 75% convinced me the Raptor motor is ok... lol
Rinkers has an SA400 they've been using as a demo boat up here in Conroe. It's been well kept but has right as 50ish hours it. Never titled so it would be sold as new with warranty and the 100hr service included since it already had the 20hr done.
Being a demo boat, it's been used hard since hour 1, pulling and potentially having people use it that are new to boating. Not worried about engine break in, we covered that somewhere in a recent thread.
MSRP was around 135k, they had it listed around 105k, and now since it's a demo boat we're working on price. I was thinking around 86-88k, seems rinkers has settled at 90k.
Should I hold out?
Should I build a Max for 20k less?!?
Go... thanks!

I bought a very similarly equipped 2017 SA back in the beginning of July. The MSRP on the build sheet was $138.438, it had 17 hours on it when I bought it. They did the 20 hour service before I picked it up and included a certificate for the 100 hour service. The one you are looking at obviously has more hours "50ish", but if you can buy that boat for $90k I think that's a really solid deal.

No comparison between the Max and Supra in my opinion...I would go Supra all day even if it was going to be $20k cheaper, which I think it would actually be $75k or so to get the Max with all the options on it.

I'd offer 90 and a 1k credit in the pro shop/accessory department.
that makes me feel i'm under 90k and the real outlay for the dealer on 1k in add ons is more like 4-500.

and would it bother me to buy a 50hr boat? no. my first supra was the 2006 supra demo/photo shoot boat for the launch20ssv. it had 90hrs on it(actually found the wood piece in the front that had the tennessee registration numbers on it they hung over the edge when traveling- took off to photo shoot). I had not a single issue with the boat in 250hrs of use and 5years of ownership.

If the budget calls for it it's not a bad deal for a new SA that would be under full factory warranty.

Dude you can't go wrong! Wish I had the coin for a Supra or found that kind of a deal on one. We were well below $80k on our MAX and LOVE IT. It's actually got some cool options the Supra can't get get yet (Neoprene Snap out floors) but doesn't have some bells and whistles the Supra offers. With a full factory warranty, IMO: YOU CAN'T GO WRONG! Did I mention that...? Good luck! Can't wait to see what you choose!

Yeah... I was up and down. I work in collision and one thing I can tell you about metal flake is: IT FADES (I may wrap the deck at some point).

And okay okay... I'll get some pics of me crashing into my huge wave! If anyone is in the Northern Bay area and wants to meet up or join lemme know! PM for contact. We are lake junkies (not park and partiers).

The grey actually doesn't get too hot. last boat was all white. IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean, so just seating surfaces I did white. Working well so far on a 90* day.

The SA is a beast. If you sit in and SA and then an SR, you'll buy the SA, totally different class of boat.

KG, are you leaning towards a Max? I'm really struggling internally. Would love to have a 2016 or newer SA, the Max is amazing, but I love our 2015 Mojo with manual flow and have it set up really well. The 2018 Mojo Pro is crazy awesome....blessed to have these "problems" I suppose.

No, I was referring to his original post. He had mentioned waiting to check out the Max while looking at the SA. I don't feel those are very comparable.

Max isn't the boat for me. I love our Mojo but appreciate all the finishes in the Supra line.

Lake tested and surfed the SA today, holy cow what a machine... found out they have already put Enzo bags In it and are leaving them in the deal! That thing throws an unreal wall of water sac'd out.
I'm dragging the 06 in for trade appraisal tomorrow, and putting the deposit down. Unfortunately I'm right in the middle of the build of my wife's 4Runner, and I leave on a 9 day trip Sunday. Gonna be a long couple weeks!
There's still a little part of me that wants the smaller SR, but Conroe sucks so bad it'll be nice to have the bigger boat.

I actually found a set of 1.5" spacers on Craigslist today for $40. It's not ideal, but it'll get the truck up and running at least to get the alignment done.
Now I've gotta do some stereo work on the boat tonight and remove my W6's and put the original sub back in.
Work work work...

I think you are for sure making the right choice going with the SA over the SR. It would be really hard going from a 24' boat to 21ish' boat. I prefer a Mojo over the SR simply because space is more important to me than gadgets.

Broke Pilot
10-05-2017, 05:07 PM
After riding in the SA I agree. However, has f you sit in the '06, then the SR, then the SA all back to back, it's amazing to feel the difference in a 10 year old 24' vs a new 21' boat. There is easily just as much USABLE cabin space as my 24'.
The one really odd thing about the new Supras is I don't feel like there's much storage space. In the 06 I keep a bunch of orange jackets under the seats in the nose. I can't do that with the ballast bag up there on the SA. The Enzo bags take up the storage under the seats in the cabin. The doghouse is about the only option to put stuff in, but I really want to put the W6's in there lol...

Prospersigman
10-05-2017, 05:31 PM
I would agree with you the storage is lacking in my 2017 SA. You have the doghouse, under the passenger seats and behind flip up seat in the bow that goes underneath the drivers helm. I keep all the ropes and 1 surf board in the rear surf locker above the swim deck. When the bags are not full you can fit wakeboards and surfboards in the rear lockers while its on the trailer as well. Would be nice if it had the subfloor ballast like the new SL though.

Here's a question for a SA owner... what do y'all do about a cooler on the boat?!? The 06 had a nice, huge cooler built in under the seats. I don't understand how that's not a mandatory feature in newer boats?!?
Apparently the SA comes with a soft bag cooler, but I can guarantee that's not enough when you take kids and lunchables and Capri sun out lol

Buy another AO soft bag cooler. You can get them up to 48 can capacity on amazon. I have a 48 can on and it will fit under the seats in our Mojo.

Broke Pilot
10-05-2017, 07:16 PM
That's kinda what I figured... Linz and I also talked about finding a cooler that would fit up in the nose and not use the filler cushion. I'd probly use some 2sided tape and put down a set of those cooler 'feet'. I'll hop on amazon and check into soft coolers.

Cactus371

The AO soft side cooler that came with my SA holds a 30 pack and 20 lbs of ice. And if we have 10-12 people we bring the 45 rtic cooler.

Your new SA should come with 2 coolers, at least mine did. It comes with the AO soft sided cooler and a white Igloo cooler that fits under the bench seat behind the driver's seat. Problem is you have to swing open that door that goes over the trash can department and it swings open into the middle of the boat, then lift the bench seat up to get to the cooler...poor design in my opinion. We pack all beer in the white Igloo cooler and then more beer and kids drinks in the AO cooler.

Pound
10-06-2017, 02:28 PM
i have this one and love it. the low profile lets you put it under any seat or under the bow cushion. you could even put it under the helm.
https://www.amazon.com/AO-Coolers-Stow-N-Go-Cooler-38-Pack/dp/B00ESYBP6C

It keeps ice for a really long time and because it's soft sided, you can kinda stuff it pretty damn full. a la lunchables etc. my wife's always like "that's not gonna fit" and i'm like, "hold my beer and watch this".
I prefer a cooler with a lid, but as far as zippers go, it's way better than that hand mangler they call a zipper on yeti bag coolers.

I am looking at possibly doing the Enzos, do they run all the way up under both bench seats on the sides?

I was also looking at these https://www.wakemakers.com/fly-high-supra-sa-plug-play-rear-surf-sac-w892.html The website says adds an additional 780lbs of ballast weight over the stock ones. I figured with these and 500lbs of lead I would be right at 4000lbs of ballast, which should be more than enough.

Broke Pilot

Not all the way up... probly 12ish? inches away from the flip up seat/trash can door from what I remember on the lake test.
Those bags you linked say 750# and for the older body SA... I thought the newer SA came with 900's? But I'm probly wrong...

The cooler problem is real life problems man. the new SL or an SE does not have that cooler issue. Here you go for a little winter temptation:

Agreed that the cooler thing is a 1st world problem, but that still doesnt make the design any better on the SA or SG.

Not a fan of all white boats, but I do like the tan interior and tan flooring...not all that tempted by this one though.

I just got my SA on July 22nd, if I tell my wife I want to upgrade after 3 months I am going to have to sleep on the boat. I plan on trading on July 22nd 2018, I am on the every year plan from here on out.

Way too much green on the trailer, I don't like the green fenders and green wheels. But if it is still around on July 22nd, 2018 and they want to sell it to me for $100k I'd be interested ;)

I was all set for an SL until I saw the price! They're good looking, I like that all white and tan interior. In all honesty, if this SA wasn't a demo boat with a steep discount, I'd never be doing this. Prices have gotten way out of hand. This is the last boat I buy, until the kids are off to college and I can get my bay boat again.
I never knew filling a boat full of water was ground breaking technology, hopefully NASA knows what we're doing out here. Lol
