3500 lb of subfloor ballast should makes lots of people around here happy! Does anyone know if it is also plumbed for additional bags?

Sweet looking boat!!

I also love the new paint that is coming on the trailers...looks like a Rhino Liner type of material, I'll bet it is way more durable than the paint that they have been using for years.

Can't find much on the floor ballast on the website and the rear picture doesn't show any quick drains like a centurion... is it gonna be pumped in/out through the hull fittings?!? Seems like that's gonna be a slow fill/drain...

Dual pumps per ballast tank, thru the hull. It will be much faster than the current version that only has 1 pump.

We are stoked on this boat, have an order ready, just trying to determine the timing....and make certain we are happy with colors.

The bow will be an improvement over the old days, the 2 in the cabin disappoint me. Moving to 8.8s is a huge step in the right direction, but dropping down to two of them is a mistake imo. I've already been discussing with Odin how/where we can add either another pair of 7.7s or 8.8s in the cabin.

Question regarding engine choice in this boat.

If you did not want to pony up for the SC option, would the 400 be enough given that the torque spec isn't much different than the 440? You could easily weight this boat past 10k lbs, and with its 1.5:1 transmission ratio, I'm wondering how well the 400 would do getting to wakeboard speeds with max ballast. Not worried about top speed, so with a reprop would it be okay with the 400?

russellsmojo

Following^ I had the 15x13 in SA and could see where 440 would be needed. Curious on your prop question.

I struggled with this decision initially also. To go from 400 to 440 its a $6130 upgrade. I'm coming from and SE with the 2775 prop, boat weight listed at 5500 pounds. The SL is listed at 5600 pounds, and I will prop with the same 2775. To me, the 400 seems like too large of a regrettable decision.

I wish I would have went with the 550 on my 2017 SA. I reproped to a 15x11 and still have to dump to 60% to be able to wakeboard. I do have the enzio sacks though and I only have the 400.

Wow, 15x11 is an AGGRESSIVE prop! Still need to dump weight to wakeboard with that prop on an SA 400? This makes me think the 550 is an absolute requirement in the SL. I really don't think you could tell the difference between a 400 and a 440 given the similar torque curves.

As an aside, how much top end did you lose with the 15x11 Cactus?

DFTR Josh
08-23-2017, 11:31 AM
All the Supra's are ordered with the 575 since we are at high elevation and is a must with full ballast. The Moomba's are ordered with the 400 since it's a costly upgrade to the 440 when looking for a smaller budget. If you can afford the 440 or 575 it's well worth it IMO.

Keep in mind he is running the Enzo's which would be at least 1500 additional over stock pounds.

I have the 440 in my SE with 700lbs of lead. I run the 15x12 prop with little issue surfing unless we have a boat load of people. But at wakeboard speed even with auto launch I have to drop some weight to get to speed. The 575 would be best if your going to weight it much beyond stock ballast.

It came from the dealer with the 15x12 or 12.5. I went from 35 mph to 34 mph wot at 5400 rpm. It has no problems surfing even with 10-12 people and ballast full as long as the weight is distributed correctly. Mainly having enough nose weight. That is the only thing that I would change. But $16000 extra for a 550 could be to much just to wakeboard with that much weight. Not to mention we don't wakeboard that much. But I would love to see the wake

Looks sweet. I don't understand the 2x2 screen comment, it certainly looks larger than that, maybe not 10" but seemed like a good size to me.

Did anyone feel like the interior seems narrower than other boats? Specifically the floor space between the seats and the walkway between the windshield?

The 2x2 screen comment is that when you come from owning Nauitque's malibu's etc the screen on the Supra looks very small. Also the clutter on the dash is unnecessary. All this redundancy is like Supra doesn't think there interface is reliable. Never have any of my screens ever failed or even blipped in the last 6 yrs.

I think the dash is cool. Might should measure before commenting. It's plenty big. I don't want an iPad mounted in my face when I am at the lake.

I agree the dash is need of a major overhaul, I like the idea of back-up switches but dont like that i have to look over the sterring wheel or thru it to see the screen or reach over or around the the steering wheel to make adjustments is annoying, not a deal breaker but my demos with Malibu,Nautique,Tige there dash was a homerun and easy to access and except for the Malibu it provided a clear view of sight no big deal to me cause i always look over the windshield but would like to see a improvement on the dash.

I've ridden with Cactus... he don't care about top speed! LOW AND SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And SLAMMED. And his wakeboard wake at even a lower percentage was pretty ridiculous. More than enough for me.

But yeah, it would kill me if my boat was revving north of 4k RPM's surfing like his does! EEK!!

Well I got to see, ride, drive, and play with the new SL that Parker was filmed on in Lake Powell. This boat is very impressive and will shine in today's market with a lot of new followers. First of all this thing feels HUGE with the sub floor ballast and preforms even better. This SL was ordered with the 15x11 prop and OH MY GOODNESS. The tower is crazy sturdy and so clean on how the racks hook to it. That day they were delivered an extra set of racks but I didn't get to see them installed but the place for them is perfect. Shade top is massive and was told once you do it a few times it's really easy to put up and take down. The power buttons are on top of the tower and a perfect spot, not too high for the shorter people. The fact it's out of the way of kids so you have zero worries. Zack the owner seemed to like the idea of being able to tow with the tower down and fully covered. I will say it's been by far the best goofy wave I have played on and the regular side just as impressive. I didn't get any pics or video of riding but was told some video will be out when they get back from their trip on Lake Powell. The FAE will be a must have item, it was so quite while behind the boat. Size, shape, performance... this IMO is the best Supra built to date!

The one we had at the PWT event that is now owned by a Neighbor on Norris Lake has 4 tower, 2 cockpit, 2 bow speakers, 1 sub by the driver and one under right by the amps. So I have to sign off on my final build this week, Just went back to the Raptor 400 vs the 440. It seems like there are quite a few shops ordering the 400. It seems like i could reprop down to a 985 or run a 945 oj. This will be used 80% for wake boarding and the rest surfing. Maybe the odd water skiing outing. I never cruise the lake over 26-27mph. Any thoughts? How much do you think i would loose on Resale.

Curious to see what others say but I would think if you are going to be loading up all the ballast for wakeboarding and are at any elevation, then you would want the 440. If you have to prop down just to push the weight, then I would think your rpm's will be really high and gulping the fuel more in order to run the 20-24 mph for wakeboarding?

I'm looking at some options of how I can position myself financially to get into a new SL. I'm at 6,500 feet so the bigger engine is important to me and if I were buying used I would have to think twice about a base motor in any boat.

I if you're wakeboarding 80% I would go with the 440. There was a torque curve chart floating around last year that compared the two engines. I seem to remember the two engines being almost identical in the lower rpm ranges, but in the higher RPM's is where the 440 shines. So it would definitely be beneficial if you plan on wakeboarding with serious ballast.

I was just reading a thread on the BU forum last night about the Raptor 400 vs 440 vs 575. Someone was speaking to the Indmar Rep.

Overall, most over there were debating if the 440 was work the extra $7-7.5K upgrade. Negotiable cost.
Same motors, different tunes for the 400/440.
440 has gains over 3800 RPMs
Some that get new boats every year were choosing the 400 - cannot justify the cost.
Long-run people liked the 575 - but who is going to fork over that extra $

I was just reading a thread on the BU forum last night about the Raptor 400 vs 440 vs 575. Someone was speaking to the Indmar Rep.

Overall, most over there were debating if the 440 was work the extra $7-7.5K upgrade. Negotiable cost.
Same motors, different tunes for the 400/440.
440 has gains over 3800 RPMs
Some that get new boats every year were choosing the 400 - cannot justify the cost.

Torque isn't the issue, it's horsepower. HP is what keeps you moving. Under 5250rpm (where torque and HP cross in a dyno chart since hp is a function of torque) you want as much hp down low as possible since that means you have more torque.
Since the 400/440 are the same motor, and it's all in the tune, in the real world are you gonna notice the difference? There is no change to displacement or heads/can, so the only way to bump the hp/tq is a timing change (which I can guarantee is the diffence in the tune) or increase compression.
Since there's no change to the head/cam, that's why you don't see any improvement down low, you haven't changed any efficiency aspect of the motor.
Save the $$, 7k buys a lot of fuel...

Always remember the old saying; torque is how hard you hit the wall, horse power is far you drag the wall...

I don't know the mechanics of the motor difference. Having rode and driven both it's different. The 440 has noticeable difference in hole shot and planing. Is it worth $7k...not saying that depending on boat. On SL though I don't think it's a matter of debate. It needs the 440. Heavy ass boat plus resale with 440 is open to any elevation in the country.

Thanks for the input guys, excited to be back in the moomba community you guys are great, I will be trading it back at the dealer when we do sell it so I think that I will see most of the money back when we go to trade it in. One last question, we live on the lake and the boat sits on a lift, Trailer gets used 1-2 times a year, do you think the 2k for the 18inch rims will command dollars on resale?

I would go with 100% base trailer, only a couple times a year use will be fine. Resale you're in a larger market with the smaller wheels IMO.

Yep. Agree with DFTR. Let the next person upgrade them.

If you do not have a trailer, it almost counts against you b/c there is a bigger resale market for a boat w/trailer.

I was talking to someone who bought a new wake boat w/o the trailer. I listened, but it did not make sense to me. Sounded like a big pain in the azz for something simple as dealer maintenance.

Here s the link to my build,
https://www.supraboats.com/configurator/16?isConfig=false&selectedOptions=2728,2733,2747,2776,2790,2822,2823 ,2830,3362,3368,3375,3376,3393,3413,3414,3419,4576 ,4588,4589,4594,4597,4602,4610,4614,4616,4618,4632 ,4691,4818,4823

It is actually going to be silver metal Flake not the gun metal flake. The boat builder shows them in reverse. I ended up adding the steering wheel controls .

26559I've been lurking on here for a while doing my research in looking for a new boat. I've had a 2012 Malibu VLX, which is a great all around boat, but we were looking to move into a more surf focused boat. I've been looking at the SL, but it's been tough since it is so new and there aren't many reviews available online. We're in Seattle, and we finally had an opportunity to demo/surf it last weekend and that was what it took to pull the trigger. At the end, we were down to a decision between the SL and a '17 Centurion ri237 or an '18 fi23. They are both really impressive boats. At the end of the day we went with the SL because the surf wave is in the same class, all of the ballast is sub-floor (the centurions still have bags in the lockers), the rear facing slider seat is much more practical (the centurion uses removable seat backs which look like a hassle), and the overall flow/design of the SL felt better to us. We have five surfers/drivers in our family using the boat and I think the auto wake will be a real advantage to making sure that we have a consistent wave. Finally, our experience in shopping and demoing with Darren from Northwest Inboards was fantastic, and he's a dealer that I feel like will support us really well. Thanks again for the information.

Yup that is the boat. It was the first one into his dealership and we liked the colors and options pretty much the way he ordered it. The only thing we are adding is a surf pipe.

Very good looking boat pedal. should be a surf beast, let us know how you dial it in.

I like that color scheme.

Thanks! We demo surfed it with 600lbs of lead pretty evenly spread out, and just used auto wake and it was great....I'm sure we'll learn more as we get time on it. Can't wait until spring.

Just out of curiosity, does the SL have the 'depth sensor' or whatever goose was talking about in the qutowake on the '18 Max?

Draft sensor, thank you. My brain fried for a few. I was curious if that was gonna carry into the Supra's or not.
Did you like the '18 autowake?

I don’t have much to compare it to, but we hit the button and it put out a nice wave. It will be interesting to play around with it when we have more time.

I think all the boats with autowake V2 have the draft sensor.

Any 2018 Supra or Moomba with Autowake 2.0 will have the draft sensor
