Should I get the 440 or the 400 in the supra sa. I am not sure if it is worth the extra price. We will be surfing and wakeboarding mostly running stock ballast with 2-4 people in the boat. What are your guys thoughts.

Any elevation above sea level, I would go with 440. I boat at 6000 ft and my 440 still can't cut it with 4000 lbs. I know that's a lot of weight and not what I run normally. I normally run 3000 to 3500 and can just hit 10.3 mph surfing, but no more

I live in Bc , usually boat at around 1500 ft above sea level.

Go for the 440 I have the 2014 450 SA and we boat in BC and Ghost lake next to Canmore and we use all of that engine

Thanks guys, the wakeboard wake is awesome, when we demoed it we used stock ballast for the surf wave and seamed really good any way to make it better?

Are you propped appropriately?

I agree, I'd go with the 440 in the Supra lineup, at least SA and larger.

First, I would think properly propped the 400 would be suffic

Second, not trying to threadjack here but I will ask the question anyways. The 400 to a 440 is just a programming difference, engine is identical. Does anyone think a company will come up with a way to re program a 400 to the 440 for less than the 5k the dealers are asking for?

I pretty much agree across the board on the Moomba lineup. I start second guessing in the Supra lineup, though. There might be more difference in weight than some would expect ....

Craz: 4200
Mojo: 4400
SA: 5300

Wow didn't realize it was THAT much heavier. OK so maybe 440. Still wonder why someone cant get an ECM from a 440 and plug it on their 400. Best way to know would be drive them both. Depending on where in the power band you get the extra torque it may or may not be useful. Its only 27lb-ft after all from the 400 to 440. Seems like the decision should be 400 vs 575.

Go with the 575 and never leave yourself wondering "what if".....The PWT boat is an SA with the 575, had the pleasure to ride it a couple times last year fully loaded, I could never imagine my Mojo with the 400, even with a high alt torque prop, pulling that sort of weight.

The 575 $18k will be staying in my bank account.

I have a SR400 with the 1235 prop and it runs well. But riding in the PWT surf boat with the 575 and extra weight can't disclosure, was WOW. Not sure $18k wow.

I have a 16 SA400 with the 2775 prop. I'm only at about 700 ft elevation but I run 5000 lbs of ballast and at least 4 people. I run under 3500 RPM's when surfing at 11 MPH. I just personally cannot justify the price difference of a 440 for those couple of ft lbs of torque in a remapped tune. Higher altitude could always prop more aggressive than a 2775.

Wow , what is your surf wave like with 5000lbs? Did you get bigger bags?

Yes I have custom bags and the wave is incredible.

What size bags did you get for the rear? I can't remember if there is already a bow sac in the front or if it is a hard tank?

I surfed a 2018 Supra sa today with stock ballast. Wave was pretty good with autowake off. Was very soft and lacked push with autowake on. But I'm used to a 25' Malibu with 6000#'s of ballast. Needless to say I'm going to try and buy the Supra.

Do it! Stock on the 18 is 3,500 lbs. so definitely comparing apples to oranges weight wise ha.

Did you try the 400 or the 440? Is there any chance they will put in a 2:1 tranny for 18? Has anyone tried the 2777 prop on a 400?

I am trying to be cheap if,I can save 6K that may keep in the sa rather than buying a nautique 230

Powertrain will not change on the 18'.

The 230 has been around unchanged for how many years and they have added 2 newer lines to the Nautique stable. Things that make you go hmmm. I would go with the SA over a hull that was not built with surfing in mind.
