My PP powered up last weekend but no speed would register and the buttons wouldn't respond.
I powered down the boat then up again. I got no display at all and tried power cycle again and nothing.
Went under the helm and disconnected and reconnected every harness I could find related to PP and its display.
Everything came back on and speed worked for the rest of the weekend.

First thought is loose connection and so on but why would it die in stages? Is this a known issue and something I need to address or was it just a bad connection?

I've never experienced failure to that extent. Do you have the servo based PP or the one that connects to the ECU harness for control?
My display acts up quite often, it seems to happen during high humidity. A lot of times I'm running blind on the PP, but all the buttons still work.

I know the display issue is common, does anyone know if they have resolved the issue with the newer PP displays? I hate to spend ~$250 for a new display only to have the LCD fail again in a couple of years.

Try cleaning the contacts and use a dielectric grease within the connectors.

I am not sure which type I have. I am bringing a cleaning spray with me this weekend that I have found to work well.
It is just strange that it did it in stages but since the reconnect seems to have fixed it maybe I will have to go with that. The engineering OCD side is getting the best of me

Sprayed the contacts down with Deoxit this past weekend and still working. Maybe a fluke?
