That's my 12 year old at the helm with one of his buddies, my 10 year old daughter and one of her friends in the boat. He did an awesome job backing the boat off the trailer, picking me up at the dock and later dropping me off at the dock and driving the boat onto the trailer. They're never to young to teach.

Thanks Greg. I see you are running an Acme 1617 on your '07 LSV. What are you running for a top end speed and RPM at WOT??? I want to get a new prop and have been debating between the 1433 and 1617. There has been a lot of good discussion on the forum about this subject but wanted to ask somebody with "my" boat. With my stock prop (OJ 13.7x17.5), my WOT tops out at 39 MPH and 4500 RPMs. This is with only me in the boat and calm winds and water. I still like to ski occasionally so I can't afford to lose a lot of top end but would like to add some power for surfing as I just added 1100s in the rear and a 750 IBS.

Acme 537 13.5 X 16 if you can believe it. It's honestly been all the prop I want and need. It has been fine pulling around 3500 pounds of ballast surfing at 10mph with a suck gate. The only time it's an issue is when we take off without the rudder straight and it takes a while for the wave to form. But we never have any trouble getting up to speed. But if I do a faster, straight surf takeoff, the wave forms plenty quick. For wakeboarding, I'll most often only ride with the front 1180 bag full. occasionally I'll fill the rear bags halfway. But again, it doesn't seem to have any trouble getting up to speed. And I also slalom at about 30mph, so the prop handles that well. I still get that great balance with top end and fuel economy not suffering.

Lots of people will say more low end than I have, but I've been happy with how my boat performs and don't feel the need to compromise the top end or fuel economy.

Already on the list Trayson, I've been stalking your post for a week or so now. You seem to have the XLV figured out. Bags and a some sort of wake shaped are first on the list. Does Wakemakers carry the 1180 bag?

Amen. Nothing worse than taking a new boat out and not knowing what the heck you're doing. Ski boats are fickle animals and they take time to get the hang of.

Planning on it. An old friend had an old direct drive outback that I drove a good bit. I'm looking forward to learning the nuances of this v drive as far as the backing up and handling. Been reading all the help threads on here and the owners manual while I'm waiting on her to get here.

Of all the forums I've been on, team talk, Malibu crew, and even the Supra forum, you guys are by far the most welcoming and most helpful.

I dunno. it sounds odd to me too. but I'm happy with the performance of it. I know it's a fairly common prop that a lot seem to be happy with.

I guess I figure "it it ain't broke, don't fix it".
Here's a thread I had when I convinced myself to stay with my Acme 537.

It was worth every minute. I got a lot of the vinyl done and hope to finish that by end of summer. Finishing up the large piece of the sundeck this week.

I have tint on my window and of course you can't be in the seat and see out of it at night. But that's honestly not an issue because I rarely if ever drive from the seat w/o the bolster up. There's just too much of a chance to encounter a stick or a log floating in the water to risk the more limited view of seated (even in the daylight).

I got myself a set of clear lenses for a pair of oakleys that I didn't wear that much and those are my "night" driving glasses. Just something to keep the wind off my eyes.

You can see my darkness of tint in this pic from last year:

Looking good 5:00! Very nice work.

Thanks! It is hard to see but it is Maroon with black outline on the "Moomba" from Domed Numbers. The XLV graphics are black with a maroon outline. I took an existing font and tweaked the crap out of it to my liking, printed and layered on my vinyl cutter. A ton of work. The rest are obviously the Masque font that most don't like but I do. Since we are stripping EVERYTHING from the boat including vinyl we are changing from Black and gray to maroon and lighter gray.
I wanted to bring it up to date and give it a little edge. I didn't replace the giant Gravity Games logo and I am good with that.

So we use our boat for some cool and unique things in Portland. On Saturday, we launched the boat and headed over to downtown Portland. We got in some foilboarding (crashing), some wakeboarding and some surfing.

Afterwards, we docked the boat on the Portland waterfront and walked over to "cart-lab". It's a sit down restaurant with a full bar and everything, but you order off the menu and the food comes from some of the local food carts. Portland is pretty famous for it's food cart scene, so that was cool to try out. And walking distance from the public dock. It was a little nerve racking to walk away from the boat with $4,500 (retail) worth of boards on the rack... But thankfully nothing happened.
Getting good use of the overhead rack with the foil board...
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/output_zpsmr822nxf.jpg

After that we got back in the boat and cruised over to Waterfront Park. We drifted along the sea wall and helped ourselves to the featured Concert. Yep, the one and only Sir Mix-a-Lot. I'm an old school hip-hop geek, so I was loving it.

Why not invest in some cable locks and lock the boards to the racks when you do that? They are cheap and offer some peace of mind.

The boards are just held onto the cargo bimini with bungees, and onto the overhead racks with nylon webbing. Unless there was a hole through the surf boards I couldn't really secure them anyway. (the surfboards don't have holes in them and the wakeboards on there were closed toe bindings).

Maybe could secure the foil, but I guess I'll just have to hope that it's public enough that people won't try to steal stuff. And obviously keep good insurance!!!!!!!!!

I really don't dock and leave gear all that often. And with my current setup, I would have had the ability to put my surfboard/wakeboard in one locker, the wife's surfboard and my slalom ski in the other. Then I can put the Ronix surfboard and at least 1 or 2 other boards in the basement locker. so if I was more worried about it, I'd start stowing gear in lockers out of sight.

mmandley
06-05-2017, 06:37 PM
You can use two locks and lock the board from the front and back so you can't slide it off?

Another option is drill a hole in the fin and run a cable through there.

Just thinking out loud.

Yeah, If I was that worried, I'd likely put more thought into it. The best move in this case would have been to stow boards in lockers. I could have dropped my exposure from $4500 to $1000 or $500 or even $0 by putting EVERYTHING in lockers that I could fit in lockers and getting stuff out of sight.

As it was I just pulled the keys out of the ignition and went and got a juicy food cart burger with some tasty shoestring fries! Nom, Nom, Nom.

The key has never been out of the ignition of my boat.

I used to do that until someone pulled the key and either tossed it or took it when it was parked at a dock. I had to go all the way home to get a spare so we could do some boating. I now hide a key and pull the ignition key when walking away from a public dock.

I was the same until we got the lift.

Several times I have got to the boat and realized I forgot my key.

I forgot our key once on the '08 - learned how to hot-wire pretty quickly, and all was well with the world. I think the spare that came with the '13 is in the glovebox, lol.

I also leave the keys to our cars in them, if anyone wants a Mercedes or a Jeep, lol.

New surf platform performed well tonight. For some reason my phone decided not to take the vertical picture of the platform completely out of the developing wave...dang it!

I'll have to take some pictures of it in the daylight. Still needs to be sanded and painted, epoxy was just dry enough to run tonight.

Goofy side not terrible either, IMO.

I figured if I bought a chevy it would be in the shop even more, with all the recalls and what not. Dodge has come light years on there interiors but I'll never own a dodge again. I owned nothing but GM until this truck but but this thing has treated me right. It's not the 6.0 or 6.4 that seem to have been plagued with problems. I guess we'll see how she pulls shortly

I like the Fords, but their Diesels are shit. Dodge have had rust issues for decades. Look at every Ram in the Midwest and they all are rusting to hell around the rear wheel wheels, bumpers and tailgates. You'd think after several models they would have figured this out, but nope. Chevy isn't devoid of plagues, but seem to be the most reliable of the bunch. I have worked in the auto industry for 18 years, so I have a good finger on the pulse here.

I just like stirring the Ford guys up LOL.

I owned nothing but Fords until my Ram.

I can agree Dodge rucks have rust issues but I haven't seen anything like that with the 12 ups.

It took me a long time to give up on Ford Diesels, but after the last 2 with the major issues I ended up having I wanted something more reliable.

I have always liked the chevy front end, rear end but I just don't like the side profiles. They have to be lifted to even look good to me, I don't care for the square looking fender wells. Also the interior feels cramped to me. I sat in the new ones before buying my Ram and I just didn't like the dash layout for the entertainment system and I felt like I just couldn't get fare enough away from the steering wheel.

To each there own, that's why we have so many choices. LOL

I am running a Ford Expedition EL and love it. My first Ford ever in 33 years of driving. They started doing things right so I gave them a chance. 2011 with 110,000 miles and the only non routine thing so far has been the right rear bearing. There isn't a rattle or squeak to be found and still running strong. The only thing missing that Chevy has is some good low end torque for towing the XLV. That I do miss.

Haha, Ford is gonna talk me back into GM, not Dusty!

The Jeep is v8 hemi and has air suspension. It did good for it's size but the wheelbase just feels too short. It works in a bind but I wouldn't want to regularly tow with it. It's obviously way different than towing with a 3/4 ton.

I came from a lifted tuned LBZ Duramax in 2014. Wasn't impressed by the then current GM interiors and had always had bad luck with Dodge so Powerstrokin I went. Still have a warranty for all the expensive stuff for another 65k miles or 7 years.

In the words of the service tech I dealt with ... "we'll see about that". They were dead set against filing any type of powertrain warranty and im within both year and mileage.

I do love the truck, though. Fingers crossed it holds solid after this repair.

That's lame. Dealers should jump for joy when they get warranty work. Ford pays the money, and the dealer makes $$$ on the whole thing. the only risk is if Ford later denys the claim, but that's why they should get it preapproved or whatever.

We got warranty reimbursement of our F150's whole steering rack, and the dealer was cool with us about it.

Today was the last decent day before we get a few days of rain.

First milestone today was that I had my first ever Chick-Fil-A. Tasty dinner on the boat.

Smooth water and pretty much the only boat out as the clouds rolled in. Took a wakeboard set and my friend filmed it with his DJI P4.
When I was ready to surf, a few rain drops started. Wait, what?!? Oh well, I'm already wet. But it wasn't supposed to arrive until 10pm.
The plastic lever on my suck gate broke, so I just surfed it listed. No worries there. Push for days...http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/IMG955362_zpslwxoxf35.jpg

Then we put up the Bimini (interesting fact, we've used the Bimini more for rain than we have for sun/shade). And the wife got her surf set in. She likes it when she gets up first pull, rides a few songs, gets some carves in, and cruises off the back when she's done and never gets her hair wet.

Cruising back it was pretty flat water for the main channel. We went by some little "boats" that are often anchored in the middle of the river. It's commonplace for us to motor past stuff like this, but I was thinking that some of you might not see ships like this when you're out playing...http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/0607172008_HDR_zpstqcaax2r.jpg

Holy cow is that thing trashed right now! We've been going there off and on for over 10 years and i don't remember this much debris flowing down that river. It reminded me of that scene from Star Wars where they are stuck in that trash thing. I'm lucky to have gotten out of there w/my prop and rudder intact. It was bad and dangerous. I didn't even think to get any pics because i was white-knuckle driving. And what's worse, we were just at Somerville the day before where the wind was just high enough to ruin any decent riding. Put a lot of miles on the truck and trailer for some crappy riding this weekend.

Saturday's rainy PNW weather broke and we actually had a halfway decent Sunday.

Got the invite to go out on a friend's boat, so that was awesome to not have to take mine out. although it's tricky to be able to bring all the necessary gear for a family of 3 onto someone else's boat if you're all gonna ride and need wetsuits. We settled on one big gear bag with the wetsuits and stuff. my son brought his surfboard, my wife brought her Doomswell Sparkplug, and I brought my wakeboard. So I just surfed the wife's board.

Wife is getting used to her Doomswell again. After shoulder surgery this winter and with Carpal Tunnel starting to bother her now, she has taken most of her sets this spring on her Ronix board that's a lot more stable. But now she's transitioning back to the fun and wild little SparkPlug.

After a long pull on a wave with lots of push, my son was feeling some burn on his right leg's quad. haha.

Got in some really good sets this weekend! Pic of one of my kids here. We are getting a much taller wave without the swim platform digging in. The push is great but I need to lengthen it even more!! Very happy with it though.

Why does the wave always look so great in real life but so small in photos LOL? I need some lessons in photography.

Replacing the swim platform was the change that made that wave. No more of that lip digging in. I had no idea it would make that much difference. I already had everything else listed in my signature. My wife and I were the only two on the boat the first time we cranked up that wave this year. We couldn't believe it. It also has push which I was afraid it wouldn't have. We got almost that same wave with only two of us on board. I also found the wake plate had to be almost all the way down to clean the wave where it used to be only half way down. I still need to fine tune but working well so far.

That wave in the pic is with 5 people on board. I sent three to the front and it didn't lengthen the wave at all even with full locker up front. I finally dropped the rear bags to about 2/3 full and still had a crazy tall wave and a bit longer. I am going to try the rear bags half full this weekend and see what happens. Glad to be backing off rather than having to add.

Yeah, replacing the platform was one of the first things I did with my XLV. I don't regret it at all. And I love me a clean wave. This is with just me and my wife in the boat. :-) This pic was taken from the driver's seat, so I don't have the advantage of perspective like it'd be if someone was taking the same pic from down low near the surfer.

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/0528171028_HDR_zpsixr4wwo6.jpg

Admittedly, I'm running an extra ~600 pounds on the surf side under the seats and under the bow seat. I don't run my starboard full however. usually just to the point where my slalom ski in that locker tops out on the part of it that sticks under the seats... I'd guess half +/-.

Even with a suck gate, I still list my boat and still put more people on the surf side. The gate just makes it a touch cleaner and longer. And people more forward also helps my setup. I have a friend that is a little heavier that sits in the observer seat and it's perfect when they're along.

And yeah, plenty of push. The wife and son have actually complained that their back leg gets really tired from having to put on the brakes a lot! hahaha. I know it's not the best wave on the planet, but I'm easily on par (sometimes I think mine's better) with the stock wave on my Buddy's G23. So that makes be feel good.

first surf of the year, still needing to dial in the new boat, but im glad we went with the 1140s before evening putting the boat in the water. On the demo last year with a 16 craz surf addition could not go ropless, cant wait to play with the wave even more 25751

I hear ya Trason, it all works. I still list mine just slightly. I run the surf side bag for about 2 minutes longer than the non surf side. When I am switching sides I empty the current surf side and fill the new surf side for the amount of time it takes to change the suck gate over to the other side and done. That takes about two minutes to complete and out surfing again. There really is no wasted time because boards are also being swapped and life vest being put on also. The Suck Gate has made a huge difference in the time it takes to switch from goofy to normal and back again. Unless there are more than just me and the wife on the boat, sides will be changed.

Oh, I keep forgetting about that other world out there called "GOOFY". it's odd, but me/wife/son all ride regular, and pretty much all my friends that ride are also regular. So the times I've ever needed to swap my boat to goofy I can probably count on one hand. I'd be more like your setup if I needed to swap. But since it's pretty much all regular for us, that's why I throw down on the extra weight under the seats. I mean, with the new boats, the Enzo bags are all the rage, and my 1100 rear + my 400 under the surfside seat = Enzo bag.

That makes sense with the static weight you have. We are a goofy family in more ways than one. Funny thing is that most of us are goofy and friends also. I will be keeping those friends! I started learning to ride regular last season just so I didn't have to switch over the boat. Not an issue now.

Got the sun deck complete before the weekend! Damn I just realized I didn't get a photo of the whole thing. The light colors are nice, no more burns from touching dark vinyl.

I turned a guest room into my "3D Vinyl Engineering Laboratory". I had to put a sign up because my wife was teasing me about sewing. I just left the bed frame in place and threw a couple of saw horses and a 4x8 sheet of plywood down.

The first pic is before installing the latch/lock. It was a little stressful cutting a hole in the top after finishing the rest but it was the last step.

Oh man...I was almost hoping it wouldn't make that much difference and I could put this project off for a while. Welp I'm off to the plastic store after work. There are people who argue the whole swim platform thing. I just watched the platform dig into the water while surfing and now you can see the water go around the deck. I need to get a pic of that.

I would print it out first and check it against your brackets before ordering the plastic. If you really want to be sure increase it to 20% and it is a done deal. Mine works for me but in hind sight a bit bigger would have been just right.

I was really surprised to find out that I could back my wife's F150 in our garage with a few inches to spare (it has a 6" lift and 35's). the hood sticks out, but it's nice to at least have it mostly in the garage for projects... (even if I do have to kick out my M3 and S6 to make room)

Can't you just adjust your travel on your garage door opener to open it ALL the way so that the door is higher than the opening? I did that to mine.

Probably but not worth the time. I have only needed it in the garage once in the last 5 years. Still have the correct size warped 2x4.

Yes, I used that contact cement. It's held perfect. My HDPE was smooth fwiw.

On my interior flooring, I used some 3m super 90 when the contact cement didn't want to stick.

Thanks but that actually GatorStep, not SeaDeck. Gator Step has the template on line for the Mojo, you can order it with any of their designs and colors and it comes out perfect. On the side we are going to be adding something. Nothing major but I think it will be the perfect touch. Hoping to get pictures from the dealer today of that.

Yeah it is GatroStep there as well. It everywhere. The pieces on the bow for bow steps, the bow gunnels for arm rests, the gunnels in the back behind the tower, the whole floor and v drive cover, sun deck walk through, rear seat, swim platform, and a strip on the transom just above the platform to help protect against scratches from boards. There should be some on the bottom of the glove box too if I remember correctly. Gotta have padding for your phone lol

Deja vu! I just went through the exact same process with the same GG stickers. The nightmare all over again. Someone stole the "B" from my Moomba letters on both sides so it had to go. Took off the giant XLV also. It is all done now. Its an '07 but the original owner put the '08 graphics on it thankfully.
What is your plan for it? Get on the water this weekend and deal with that during the week!

Final result after a LOT of Goo Gone, heat and polishing.

Goof off and microfiber for the adhesive. Wool pad on a dewalt variable speed 7/9" rotary and either meguiars or 3M compound then a polish and wax. The dealer literally just did all that a week ago so I was gonna let it ride until winter and throw the 2010 chrome letters on. Kinda pissed someone touched my boat without asking and kinda pissed the marina left it sitting on a service rack all week instead of in its spot covered in the dry stack. It's going to drive me nuts all weekend.

Damn that really sucks that it happened. Just need to keep going with it. It will look brand new in the end.

Just got back from a week at Prineville Reservoir State Park. Our home for the week was this gem of a cabin up on the hill:
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/0623171920a_HDR_zps7y2e6rbt.jpg

and our view of the lake was pretty amazing:
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/0620172055_HDR_zpsbrlkxdf0.jpg

The wife really started carving it up. And by the end of the week, she had me swap out the Futures F3 fins that came with her Doomswell sparkplug for the smaller F2 fins that came with my Nubstep (because I'm now using the John John Grom fins).

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/0623171035d_HDR_zpsokhpnznq.jpg

Every morning we were treated to beautiful glass. Water was 65 in the morning and climbed over 70 by mid-day. http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/0619171018_HDR_zpskuftes8y.jpg

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/0623172041_HDR_zps5r7u3fzo.jpg

And on the water early every morning to get this all to myself... Slalom and Wakeboard until I couldn't hang onto the handle anymore.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/0624170827d_HDR_zps7pqxw1o3.jpg

Okay, I shared the water with my wife and son, and even had some friends of ours come join us for a couple nights at the campground.

The new Helix and is ready to go and broke in! Had a new crew out on it this weekend after the PWT event and everybody was very impressed with the boat. I love the question "is this really a 20.5 foot boat?" Full ballast (2100) and 5 adults the Helix had zero problem getting up to speed without using the Moomba Launch. Wake was nice but still going to bring some weight and mess with it a little. Out of the box every trick from the riders was thrown and landed. Long transition up the wake and a little lip but will try to make it a little more lippy with different weight. My boy had the set of his life and was taking his straight HS airs way into the flats which he has never done before.

Tracy, have him move his toes of his front foot closer to the tow edge of the board. it'll give him more stability and allow him to actually use the balls of his feet to apply pressure on the toe edge of the board. (like snowboarding).

Got to go out yesterday for he first time with the kids this season. It's been a weird year. On the plus side I got to pull the boat with my newest toy! So glad I don't have to back that boat with a mega cab anymore! With a 24' boat, trailer and a mega cab I was just short of the length of a semi trailer!

We switched boards after this set and he was fine. Same issue my wife is having, trying to get the front foot moved once up. Still struggling with the wave, but think we have it much more closer after three days straight on the water.

Finally have a contribution to make. Been a weird year for us too with moving, cold/high water, etc.

Ready for the maiden voyage.

That big white thing on the horizon is why our water is so damn cold still. Air 95, water was 60-ish.

Nice to see these two not glued to their phones or trying to kill each other for a change.
http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k414/grberglund/MoombaMobiusV/IMG_8159.jpg

The parks were so full that we ended up at a ramp we have never launched from - primarily because the water is always too low. But it was the only one not full so we kind of hustled in and hustled out and were fighting the wind to get loaded. Afterwards I thought the trailer tire seemed a little low but it checked out ok and then the Navigator was working a little harder on the way home. Hmmm...

Nothing like bringing 7-800lbs of lake water home with you. One of those days...

I believe that makes you the first person ever to forget drain some of, or all the ballast before Loading up! I believe a prize is in order! Lol
It's always fun to turn my boat off once it's hooked to the trailer and look down and realize my foot hit one of the ballast pump switches. They're in a terrible location

Yea, not the first and probably not the last.

Many years back my buddy bought his first Malibu and after the wet test was all excited to bring it home and swung by our place to show it off on his way. He was pretty worried that his SUV wouldn't be able to handle it since it was huffing and puffing pretty hard the whole way and the back end was dragging. Was thinking he may need to get a weight distribution hitch, some air bags, etc.

Then we hopped in and started playing with all the buttons and switches and drained the 2200lbs of ballast he hauled home with him...

The depth guage said 2.5 feet, I went out a tad further to 3. I made sure to drain my ballast every time I came back to shore.

I love the boat, fit and finish is above and beyond. Still having issues with our surf wave, the best wave I had all weekend was everything full except non-surf side rear at about 30%. Smart plate was at 50, Wakeland system was on 2 or 3, more or less washed out the wave.

My brother showed up with a 2012 MB Tomcat 21, out of the box his surf wave was far superior than mine.

I am open to any and all suggestions, but would really like to hear from those with the same boat. I know this is a Moomba forum and I'm asking for Supra advice.

maybe on your next outing try filling the none surf side to 80% move the smart plate to 25, and set the wakeland on the least amount deployed and adjust it slowly until the wave cleans up , keep your speed in the high 10s until you see improvement , not sure what your ballasts are , that will play a factor, along with people in the boat , but that should get a little closer to cleaning it up. with our craz I notice while I was surfing my wave was starting to wash out really bad and got real crappy , hopped in the boat and the non surfside was accidentally draining and went down to 30% and the wave sucked. we 100% port and bow , 90% starboard , surf tab 50-65 % and smartplate at 11 , and cruise at 10.8 . hope it helps , good looking boat

Finally getting back on the water. The little guy is doing the best he can with the DD wake. I def think it's time to start looking for something a little better.

Also taught another buddy of his to ride. That's 9 Wakeboards we've gotten started in the last year.

The 2013 SA is a great wakeboard hull but, unfortunately, not a very good wakesurf hull. I was lucky enough to be at the 2013 dealer meeting for the "Shock & Awe" release & I may have been the only person in the room to ask about the surf wave. Crickets were all I heard.

Your brother's boat was designed to surf and has a marginal, at best, wakeboard wake.

Consider yourself lucky - you can use your boat for wakeboarding & his for surfing & you both keep hours in check.

He loves this board. Its fast and gives him better pop off the small DD wake. Plus it looks badass and for a great cause.

I finally got out for the first time. The water was rather warm but the current was bad and a lot of green crap hanging on the anchor line. I'll be skiing next weekend.
