it's been the coolest, rainiest spring that the PNW has seen in decades. so when the weather hit 80 degrees yesterday, we were stoked.

I was happy to get a good surf in, even with water in the 50's.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ht98Rp1Ev48

Got in a wakeboard set too (the first since the knee injury).

And afterwards, enjoying the sunset with a friend that was anchored up in the river.

Yard? You have a yard? I thought it was just a pile of dirt and rocks!

I'll be curious to know what the water temp is!

Are the lakes pretty empty with water temps like that?

Does the busyiness of the Utah lakes correlate to the water temp?

80% and filling fast. Jordanelle is filled from snow melt from 12k ft. Mtns. We're lucky if it hits 75. Utah boat show is one of the best in the country, so I assume boat related businesses do well.

We dropped the boat in the water this weekend up in Northern Wisconsin, and our lake level is UP this year.... We're on a ~400 acre seepage lake, and ever since the water table started bouncing back from the lows about 3 years ago, we've been seeing our lake level steadily creep back closer to the levels from about 20 years ago. It's kind of hard to tell from the pics below, but we lost close to 20 feet of our beach to start the season (we have a shallow, sandy bottom beach), which is great news for my 3 boys as they have less weeding to do when we're up here...

Here's a pic from the middle of last summer versus this morning which shows how much more water we're got this year. Can't wait to use all of our extra water this summer for skiing and surfing 8-)

I meant are they empty of people and boats using them. For example, after Memorial Day is when the rivers and lakes get the most use up here in the PNW. I was curious how many other boaters were hardcore enough to be out when the water temps are colder in Utah...

Once memorial day hits weekends will be crazy, we go out early and try to be off the water by 11am, weekdays are still decent. After Labor Day things slow down again. Water level and water temp do not seem to impact this busy time. Yes, there are some hard core folks that will be out on the water, unless of course it's frozen over.

Also, installed the Firestone Ride Rite airbags with the Air Lift Wireless One compressor on the truck. Before, there was 11 inches between the top of the tire and the front wheel well, and 9" in the rear. 50PSI and it's sitting level at 11" each!

I did 17hrs and then had to pull out the boat for the end of season last year. So I got the 20hr service done then. Considering I dropped $70k on a boat I wasn't in a rush to wreck the engine and have SC tell me "tough shit"
After they pull the engine log and tell me I didn't break it in properly. Patience is a virtue that I often don't posses, but in this case, the risk outweighs the gains.

The first thing they do at the factory water test is fill up the ballast and slam it WOT. I know my dealer did the same thing during their water test before the boat was turned over to me. I think that's pretty standard practice. That being said, I followed the break in procedure for the first 7 or 8 hours.

I don't think he is saying the electronics break in. I think what he means is that due to all the computers that monitor everything, they may be able to pull info from the boat and see if it was broke in properly or not.

I don't think he is saying the electronics break in. I think what he means is that due to all the computers that monitor everything, they may be able to pull info from the boat and see if it was broke in properly or not.

Yes, this is what I meant. I work in an automated plant. Every instrument feeds back to a plc and we pull trends as far back as 36 months.

I'm jealous of all you guys out! We're 2 months behind over here in WA. We have by far the worst winter and spring known to man! It's currently 48 and raining and hasn't been but 70 2 whole days since September. Quite depressing to say the least.

I finally pulled my boat out this weekend just to run it after sitting for 8 months it seems. Now just waiting for weather to stop with the bullshit and bring on the warm days we typically have. Water temps are still in 40s! They were in 70s last year in early April.

Story of my life right now. 10 years old and time for extra TLC. The drive train and hull were good when we got it but otherwise the previous owner didn't show it a lot of love so it is finally getting it. The paint was chalked and the graphics were pretty scraped up and vinyl was starting to go quickly. Gave us the chance to change up the colors and do what we want.

New boat parking...

Ok, that may be a little misleading depending on how you interpret it. Basically this has been a LONG time in the making.

Finally have a new garage to call home.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k414/grberglund/IMG_7925.jpg

The beauty is that it's 28ft deep so I can pull in and walk clear around the boat on all sides with room to spare, plus have 2 more full bays for all the other stuff. Hell I could park my crew longbed f350 in here once I get more organized!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k414/grberglund/IMG_7921.jpg

This house has been empty for 2-3 years so we have A LOT of figuring out, cleaning up, and organizing to do. We're calling it the mystery house as we still don't know what some of the light switches control, etc. There's sprinkler system buried out there but so far I've only found 3 sprinkler heads. The rest are still grown over. Lots of work ahead but it will be fun. (hopefully!)

They do go in, every time we do. They swim around and then flail at the swim platform until someone lets them back on the boat. I dont think these are really life saving devices, but it gives them a little bit of flotation and you get a handle to help pull them back ont he boat. Worth the $$ we paid for them.

2) Black and Blue looks great on the water (ugh water spots), they did just wipe off
3) Can't use auto wake with 1 person in the boat without extra sacs. (it reaches limits)
4) The Supra bimini is the best I have put up and took down in years.

The Columbia is 55 degrees and well below the normal temperature this time of year but with the air temperatures getting near where they should be 90-100 degrees there will be some warming. The Columbia doesn't flood, it flows and right now it is at 368,000 cubic feet per second which is more water in a day than most lakes have in total containment. By the time the water reaches Portland it is 3-4 degrees warmer.

Is the river still that cold? I'm out here for work still and it is hot in the city!

We had a big snowpack this year, and it's spring runoff. The rivers are mid 50's. Could I have worn my wetsuit? Sure, but when the air temps and water temps were both in the 50's I'm gonna be comfortable.

They've even been running news stories about the cold water temps this time of year. This was posted Thursday:

The rising temperatures and dry days come on the heels of a springtime snow shellacking on Mount Hood. Timberline Ski Area reports 19 inches of new snow in the past 72 hours, as of Thursday morning. And farther south in the Cascades, Mt. Bachelor reports seven inches over the past three days near the top of its Sunrise Express chairlift.

Warmer temperatures will increase Cascades snowmelt, Weagle said. He said Wednesday night that no northwest Oregon or southwest Washington rivers were forecast to get to flood stage in the next seven days, however.

A more pressing concern, he said, is the appeal of cold waters on warm spring days. River temperatures are still in the 40s and 50s -- temperatures that can quickly bring hypothermia, he said.

"Resist that temptation to get in the water," he said.

agreed. In fact, the warmer weather is bringing colder water from runoff!

https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/ofs/creofs/model_graphics/CREOFS_temp_crav_big.png

And the current is ripping pretty good. The charts say 3mph, but it sure feels fast.

As an example, when we drop someone off at the dock, we come into the dock with the bow pointed upstream 90 degrees to the dock and have the boat in gear driving forward against the current just to stay in place for the person to get on/off the boat. While waiting for me to get the truck, the wife was literally "driving" upsteam to stay in one spot. It's really interesting for sure!

I jumped in the other day to "drain my personal ballast" and it literally took the wind out of me. And my "ballast valves" were stuck shut for a bit if you know what I mean!

I had a few people check in with me to make sure that this wasn't us... (it wasn't. we were on the Columbia last night, but we were about 15 minutes downstream, whereas this happened about 15 minutes upsteam of where were launch.) Really sad.

Finally got the Mojo out for her first demo to a wonderful family that currently owns a 2012 Malibu. From what I got they were VERY impressed with the new technology and the fit and finish of the boat. First time I used the surf pockets on top of the Bimini and damn it was nice. VERY solid up there and took the worry away of wanting another set of racks.

Thanks Joe! Was going to get my drone out and get some aerial photos but work and travel has been consuming and taking away from us getting settled in and organized.

Then Tuesday night I had picked up my daughter from school, heading home talking about the day, and BOOM. A jeep coming the other way crossed over the double yellow heading right for us. I swerved as far over onto the shoulder as I could to avoid a head on but it wasn't quite enough. Got hit at about 50mph along the driver side and threw us into a spin into the oncoming traffic - we were also going about 50mph. Luckily we didn't roll but the jeep wasn't so lucky. Another car that was following the Jeep had to ditch to avoid hitting me spinning around coming at him and went off the road and through a fence made of railroad ties.

Witnesses and the police say that maybe 6" more and it could have been a few fatalities that day. Scary stuff.

Haven't gotten the final verdict yet but most likely will be shopping for a new truck here soon due to frame damage (in all my free time)...

Poor guy following the Jeep that had to ditch his car - it was a brand new 2017 Subaru Impreza, only about 500 miles on it, that he had custom ordered from the factory. He was actually in good spirits considering he just got it.

Thankfully we were not towing a trailer, boat, etc. or it would have been a lot worse.

With all that weight at that speed and the plate all the way up, I would guess that the wave is steep and short. My sweet spot is between 11-11.5 mph with some extra weight up front.

decided last night to try and hit the water after work today. today's forecast was 70 and cloudy with moderate wind and rain tomorrow. Not a ton of interest. one of my normal riders said that he was feeling sunburnt and broke. I told him to man up, wear a shirt and don't worry about chipping in for gas tonight. So just 3 of us in the boat.

We were one of the only trailers at the launch, and the only boat we say playing all evening in our spot.
The dark clouds weren't that inviting, but the water didn't look too bad. Took a wakeboard set, then filled the rest of the ballast so the wife could surf.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/0531171811_HDR_zpswpgr5o28.jpg

I took a surf set next, and then my friend got his surf in. air temp dropped quick and it felt more like fall. But we had the river to ourselves, so no complaints there. My buddy wanted to try the foil board, so he did a handful of attempts at that.

I put back on my cold, wet wetsuit and took a handful of foil board pulls also. I certainly need the practice! Trying to figure it out, but it's a new challenge.

A few rides, and lots of crashes.

Water just got better and better and was flat enough to slalom in the main channel (I didn't). We got back to the boat launch to find at all the local hooligans were doing burnouts and cookies in the boat launch and parking lot. Lame. But they didn't mess with us as we used the launch for its intended purpose.

After we gassed up we rolled into our neighborhood just in time for it to start raining. Timing wasn't too bad. Boat is tucked away safe and sound and hopefully will get some use this weekend.
