View Full Version : Underwater LED's

Has anybody got the underwater LED's as an option from the factory? Do you get your choice of color or is it a standard color? Pictures are appreciated.

Low lights would be nice to see as well.

Thanks in advance

I was looking at my 2017 Craz the other day, and it appears that all the new boats must be pre-wired from the factory for underwater lights. One of the accessory switches on the dash has a blue wire with a green stripe, I traced this wire all the way back to the transom (tucked in up and to the right -way up) and there is a butt connector there, along with a black negative also with a butt connector. So you can hook up one of those drain plug LED lights. I have one on order, so it should be simple to install and crimp to the existing butt connectors.
PS there is also a breaker under the dash for underwater lights that is 3A

Yes, i think they have been prewired for several years now.

Is the wakeplate not going to be in the way of the drain plug light?

Good thing you asked. The first one I bought had a massive head on it, and I could not screw it in, because it interfered with the wake plate. So I have ordered another one that is a smaller diameter similar to the size of the factory drain plug. So if you're going to order one that's what you want to look for. I can send you a link if you would like to show you the one I got

My lake you can't tow with the drain plug in unless you want a ticket. I wonder where I could put it while towing so I don't loose it or scratch the shit out of my wake plate.

Although $13 doesn't sound like it's going to be very bright lol

The other one I bought for $20 was super bright. It wouldn't fit as it interfered with the wakeplate. Brett, why would you have to remove it while towing? Just dont turn it on. Plus can you tow at night anyway?

Towing on the trailer. My lake has a muscle issue so they want your boat completely dry if your towing to another lake.

All of these lights have a quick disconnect so that you can remove them easily
ETA: Looks like this second one I bought doesn't have the quick disconnect like the first one.

If I did another drain plug light, I was going to install a quick electrical disconnect. (although that was going to prove tricky because I don't know if I would have been able to find a waterproof quick disconnect that would actually fit through the drain plug hole.)

That said, I stopped that project and put my regular drain plug back in because while I was messing around with the drain plug light I dropped it on the garage concrete floor and cracked the epoxy... FML.

I'm still trying to figure out what my ultimate solution will be... I've got a bunch of those 6w LED lights, but I still haven't figured out a solution for installing 8 of them without drilling 3 holes for each of them (wire, and two mounting screws).

I't should. The first one I bought was twice the diameter, where the actual light was, and I could almost get it to fit. This one is the same diameter as the thread, or close enough to it that I don't think there will be any issue. If you want you can wait till I receive mine and complete the guinea pig process.

Since these are so cheap I wonder if it would be best to get one of those 3 way Plugs?

Drop your wake plate and thread it on, put a drain light on each side and keep the middle one as the drain?

Like this, except use the center for drain (since no quick disconnect)https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170427/f038c9f35c20c859c06318e72901255c.png

Can't. The hinge extends past the bottom edge of the boat. That's what interferes. Not the plate itself.

I have 4 pointed back and 1 pointed to each side. I like the dispersion.

I'll be suplimenting it with a 20w drain plug light...

It's certainty not anywhere close to a shadow caster, but pretty good for what it is.

I have yet to find a smaller LED or fixture with fewer LEDs that is as bright. Whatever the chips in this thing are, are bright.

Guess I am going to have to run my own wiring then if it is only set up for 3 amps. I am looking at getting two SeaBlaze X's in blue and they pull 5 amps each. Plan to have them in by the 4th of July.

So I opted for the Lumitec Seablaze X2 Full Spectrum lights. Got them on the back of the boat, just need to wire them up and test them out. Advertised at 6000 lumens each...should be adequate for our swamp water.

I installed the "Firewatermarine Super Delux 10 WATT Garboard Brass Boat Plug Light 1000-1200 LUMENS", $25 at amazon. The light doesn't blow you away, but it's great for the price. I did have to put a bunch of pipe tape on the threads to keep the plug from bottoming out though (either plug too short, or threads dia too small), so probably not ideal if you have to pull the plug often. Install was a quick crimp, since power was already there. The stock (2017 Helix) toggle switch for underwater lights is 3 amps. You could run higher amperage lights off the heater toggle (15 amps) or docking lights (10 amps).
