Deck Colour Opinion

Good day to all!

Since I am in Canada and SC is building boats according to your location and boating season, my Mondo is on order and I still have time to change colours if I so desire ...... hopefully I'll have it by mid May.

I have ordered a white for my deck which in turn also is the colour of the interior. The balance of the boat is red and black exterior with the Dove Grey/White Moquetta with red accent upholstery.

I was thinking of changing the deck/interior colour to back since it looks great with the rest of the exterior, but I am concerned about a couple of issues I might have with black:

1. Will it be unbearable in the hot sun?

2. Does black show scuffs and scratches more prominently than white? Does the new gelcoat scuff easily?

I am hoping to hear opinions from guys who currently or who have had black decks/interiors.

Sounds like it would really finish off the other colors on your boat ... opposed to looking like most other boats on the inside.

There's my interior colors. The black gets hot, but not nearly as hot as the grey seats. That being said, my 2 year old crawled around the boat for nearly 100 hrs of use last summer, without issue. So I would not be concerned about temp. Scuffs do show WAY more than white though. Get a bottle of hot sauce and give it a quick at the end of the day to avoid water spots and it'll be fine. I'm in saskatchewan by the way.

The deck on my bow is black, I like the look of it, I don't like the rest of it, meaning mine never looks completely free of scratches no matter how much I wax it, it get dirty easier than the rest of the boat so it always looks like it needs a wash, shows finger prints etc...

I do love the look of the black.

I'm spending enough on this boat and I want it to be different than regular production boats that typically have white interiors.

In my opinion there is a reason most production boats have white decks. It is much easier to take care of and does not get hot like black does in the sun. My last boat had a black deck and in the Texas sun it was a hot MOFO. Scratches, scratches and more scratches show up on black, but it does look sweet when its new. I also think white would resale better. Blacked out/murdered out is the in right now, but these things change, white is more timeless.

Very good points.

That is why I decided red & black as opposed to purple, orange or green (not that I don't think they look great), but I am thinking down the road when I do sell the boat I don't want it look dated at that time.

I would only do white if you do a white hull. If you do a white hull & white deck then do a white tower.

But honestly black on black on black with red metal flake would pop harder than a virgins cherry [emoji523]

Adding the white hull really does make the white deck stand out less. I like that idea. The reason why I went with a black hull is because of a possible scum line that can occur when it is not on its lift. I was hoping the black would disguise it until I wiped it off when it was on the lift. I see nice boats on my lake that people leave in the water and neglect to clean them often and the scum line is really prominent when they are out for a run.

I appreciate the honest opinions from sivs1 & Prospersigman regarding the scratches, water spots and dirt. I'm such a fanatic when it comes to the care of my boat, but having to worry about it get scratched from regular use (even with all my rules) it might just take the fun out of it for me. My last boat was 16 years old off white in colour and scuffs, scratches and dirt were not an issue as they were not visible.

I might be biased as I'm doing a black deck & black hull but I'm upvoting Brett here....I think the red flake on black on black would look sick!!

I don't disagree at all.... The black and red would look amazing.

RC_Hinojosa, your colour scheme looks way better with the black as opposed to the white in the brochure.

All I am worried about is the aftermath. I own a black truck and if I don't hand wash and completely rush to hand dry it at 6am, the water cooks on the paint.

As they say.... black is not a colour..... it is a hobby.

You could change your upholstery accents to black and go with a red deck.

Colored deck for the win. I would never do white too boring for this guy. The only thing that bugs me is where the seat bases and the seats meet the gel gets beat up from the seat moving around. where with white you may not see that as easily.

Very true....water spots are a PITA but I've seen videos on youtube of Boat Bling Hot Sauce and it seems to work very well on several days old water spots and scum lines. I also get that the scuffs inside are an inevitability but there is something to be said about a colored deck that screams custom over spec inventory....just MHO.

She'll be pretty either way...no doubt about it.

Having owned a very black boat the water spot struggle will be real. Inside and out. Hot sauce works to get them off. But then you climb in the car smelling of sweat and vinegar. Yummy!

Is your lake pretty clear? That might adjust your decision. Lakes around me are dirty.

Yes my lake is very clean, but even with my boat going on a lift at the end of each day I still have to wipe off a small scum line daily.

As anal as I am, I will still have to deal with wet people in and out of the boat dripping water everywhere.

I think I would spend more time cleaning and wiping than enjoying the boat.

I also agree with RC_Hinojosa that I have the opportunity to make this boat different than a spec inventory boat, and I want to make this boat different, but with the Blade spray pattern and the metallic red as the main colour, I find my colour combos limited. I have tried the other spray patterns, but I prefer the Blade over the others.

I can attest to some of the potential issues with the black top deck/interior. It does get hotter and smudges/scratches/fingerprints tend to stick out more than they would otherwise. But it just looks so damn good coming down the water. It also makes the seating pop when you're looking inside the boat. Let's face it, any of the blemishes that may stick out are going to happen regardless of your top deck cover. Regardless of the deck color, It's not like you wouldn't clean those areas anyway. My votes black as it's more unique and just looks so much better. More emphasis is on the contrast color when there's no other distraction to the eye.

I had charcoal gray on the deck and hull on my last boat and I have white on this one....stuff showed more. Not saying I won't go back but I was ready for a change.
