Just like the title says.. What should i be sporting? Last year when i started, the water temp was similar but it was 60" outside so it wasn't too bad. I was just wearing a 3mm wet suit, no hood gloves or footies. Anyone else surfing in this type of weather???

I would only recommend a dry suit. With dive rescue in the Tricities we are in the water all year long and you can pile the thermals on or shed them when the water warms up. If you are only wake surfing then I'd recommend getting the boots built into the suit then you only have to be concerned about are your hands and face.

I think you can skate on it when it's that cold, can't you?

Anything below 55 degree water to me is drysuit, neoprene to me below that is useless. The coldest I'll do even a drysuit though comfortably is 45. Below that and I'll wait til it warms up

Any recommendations as far as dry suits go? I've never really looked into them. Also, I'm in Hermiston Oregon and you know as well as I do it takes the Columbia awhile to warm up. Anywhere in Tri cities to pick one up for not an arm and a leg more i could find something online?

Wakemakers has a dry suit on sale for $339 or something like that. Use the forum discount and it should be more like $300 with free shipping...

Most people on here who have them including myself have the O'Neil boost. I absolutely love it and call it a game changer. It added over 2 months to my season! Right now it is 382 on wakemakers and with discount more like 340. Get it and don't look back.

Thank you guys for the help! I'm ordering one tonight. Last year we were sporting wet suits in April and didn't have an issue. I feel like this will add a month or two to our season as well, even though it already starts a couple months earlier than most people around here!

Not sure if the ninja boots they sell work with a dry suit, but I picked some up to go with my wetsuit. They look to be great quality and will be a life saver in that cold water.

This is what I wear in sub 50 with my drysuit. All I can say is....yup!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170225/d41d17f91af92db8d7c076dc9ffb8295.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170225/4403331d4351afa1d47108673f55ddbd.jpg

FYI the gloves are a pretty tight fit. Might be worth going a size up

been using O'neil Boost drysuits for 5+ years and they are awesome. Put on a lightweight pair of sweats under in and you stay nice and warm. I usually get a little water in around the wrists, ankles and neck if i take a good wipeout but they are great. Booties, gloves and a hood will keep you really warm. Wakemakers has the best price with the Moomba discount.

Exel 4/3 sealed seam with 5mm booties and 5mm gloves. 48 deg water but 60+ air temp.

When combo temps below 100
Bag type dry suit with snowboard base layer under and same 5mm booties and gloves.

Is there a reason these dry suits don't come with boots built in if your only wake surfing as that suit almost looks identical to the one I use for dive rescue except for the boots. I have a swift water dry suit and it is nice to just throw on a pair of wool socks and not worry about cold feet. The boots may be too clunky as they are like short rubber boots.

Some of maintenance on dry suits are: hang them up to dry, baby powder the gaskets and wax the zipper.

Avoid cotton undergarments. The thin insulating top and bottoms from Costco work well and a layer of fleece when it gets real cold.

Tap a long hose into the engine coolant outlet hose. Make it long enough so you stick it in your wetsuit while surfing. Used to do that for jetsking..now i wait for warmer weather..lol

go dry suit. i prefer a baggy suit to put layers on underneath. never loan it out. others seem to always rip the seals out. and don't U in the dry suit.

was a bit cool saturday (-9!) so i worked on my stalactites.

as mentioned, wakemakers online. or if you get to portland, hit up Active Water Sports. they actually have some pretty damn good prices on their drysuits. I use gloves made for paddling. NRS is the company. mine are maybe only 2 or 3 mil, but kept my hands fine in 36 degree water. They have seals on them so your hands stay pretty dry in the gloves. I have booties too for surfing. For wakeboarding, I have closed toe bindings, so I was able to manage without anything on my feet. however, a 1mil neoprene sock would have been nice and probably still fit. My slalom ski bindings are open toed, so I've only used them in temps in the 50s.

Probably because everyone's foot sizes are different (I wear a size 7 shoe and wouldn't want boots that could accomodate a 14). And if my drysuit had built in boots, I couldn't use it wakeboarding or skiing. That alone would make me not buy one with integrated boots.

When I surf, I do use booties, but I lose a lot of feel to the board. it's better than not surfing, but I sure wouldn't want any thicker bootie soles than I have right now, like the people with 5 mil booties
