2017 Supra SA400 Build

I'm new here and wanted to start a build thread of my new Supra SA. I previously had a 2006 Mastercraft X15 for 10 years.

2017 Supra SA400

Exterior Colors:

Gunmetal Flake - Originally ordered with silver flake. Went back and fourth a lot.
Britney Blue
White - Went with white as an accent color. I was thinking about black as well.

My last boat was red and black. I wanted to change it up and go with blue this time. I'm very happy with how the colors turned out.

Interior Color:

I went with the darkest options: Light Graphite, Dark Graphite, Charcoal Accent. I'm not too worried about it getting hot being in Washington.
I didn't want a lot of color so I went went with blue piping and added the blue panel accent.

Flooring:

Seadek. I hate carpet in boats.

Engine:

I thought about going with the 450 but I couldn't justify the up charge when it's just a tune. The 400 should be fine since most the time I'm at less than 1500' of elevation. I ordered the boat with the stock ACME 1235 and bought an OJ 948 that I will put on. If the 948 is not aggressive enough I'll switch to a 945.

Tower:

Upgraded to a white tower to match the stripe on the hull and added the PTM clamping racks.

Stereo:

Ordered with no stereo options. I prefer to add my own components but will keep the interior JL's. I did add the transom remote and steering wheel controls.
Tower will be 4 Wetsounds Rev 10's in white powered by a SD2
Interior speakers will be powered by a SYN-DX4
Sub setup is yet to be finalized but it will either by four 8" subs in a ported box or two 12" in sealed box.

Cover:

I went with a custom Evolution cover over the stock unit. The main reasons were the Evolution is made of Sunbrella (vs Surlast for the stock), the ability to customize the cover and it's a true towing cover. Fortunately Evolution is in the area and was able to pattern the boat (anyone with a SA can order a cover from him now). Also had a platform cover made.

Here are the options:

- Color: Charcoal
- Openings for cleats
- Provision for a hang tie to the tower
- Blue accent stitching

Trailer:

I went with a fairly basic trailer. Only options being the underbelly spare and aluminum tread plates.

Miscellaneous:

- Swell System
- Dual Battery's
- Heater
- VR-140 Mirror

Here's what I didn't order but seriously considered:

- Docking light. I decided a hand held spot light would function adequately.
- Underwater lights. I can always add them later.
- 18" wheels on the trailer.
- Runway lights.
- Trailer backup camera.

I got a build slot in October and picked it up from the dealer at the beginning of December. It's going to be a long winter

I'll be adding all of the mods and additions that are happening over the winter.

Completely jealous Evolution is local to you! I talked to him on the phone a couple times as I wanted to get a cover for him and skip the factory cover on my boat but he doesn't have a pattern for the Craz and isn't sure if/when he will.

It will probably be $900-$1200 depending on the boat size and options. The charcoal color, cleat access and custom stitching is all extra.

Yes I demo'd the SE, SG, SA. If money and size was no issue I would have gotten the SE. The SA fits in my current garage (barely) and I thought it had the best wake. I think the SE is better than the SG unless you prefer the traditional bow. The SE has the best surf wave out of the box. I think the SA needs a little extra weight for surfing so I got 300 lbs of lead when I only have a few people. It ultimately came down to the SA meeting all my needs and fitting in my garage.

Here's a shot with the cover. Cory (Evolution) said the wrinkles will come out once it warms up. The cover stretches when it is first installed to take a "set" to the boat.

Call wakemakers and get the custom bags I sent them a template for. The legs extend under the seats further. Fill the void on the port side where the cooler sits with the lead bags for an awesome reg side wave.

Since I plan on keeping this boat a while I decided to get it coated in Ceramic Pro. It's a permanent ceramic coating that will make maintenance easier and keep it looking great for years to come. Everything is getting coated: outside, interior, tower, even the hull and trailer (they lifted the boat off).

Because it's a permanent coating they needed to get all of the imperfections out of the surface. Even though the boat is brand new there are still quite a bit of swirls and scratches in the surface. I'm not too impressed with the gelcoat finish directly from the factory. I'm guessing most people don't care or are just unaware.

Awesome looking Boat!!!

You will need the OJ945 15x13.. I have been running my boat for over a year now and with that motor this is the best choice ive found for this combo.

Most high end detail shops. You have to contact them (ceramicpro.com) to get a quote and find a shop in your area that can do it.

IDK about your area but I spoke to the Ceramic pro guys in my area < Atlanta Lake Lanier > it was $80 per foot for the interior exterior down to the water line.
Then its $100 ft for under water line.

When they say foot they are measuring completely across the boat, moving forward a foot at a time.

I plan to get the Mojo done in the spring since its in the lift all the time. I cant believe how much more work it is to keep it clean.

I expect it to cost 2500-3000 for the coating.

I can pay someone for the foreseeable future of me owning my current boat to wax it and still be less. I don't keep my boats long enough for the investment to be worth it.

Don't get me wrong, the product looks great and am sure it does wonders to provide protection to the boat as a whole, but...

I hear you guys and I think the same thing but when you leave the boat in a lift or on the water full time, the difference is the boat looks great all the time, and it just rinses right off clean.

On the lift its harder then you think to wax and polish the boat. Also even putting the cover on is a bigger chore then on the trailer.

I have been weighing this option all summer and after having to have the hull cleaned wile it was in the water waiting on the lift, and now seeing how dirty it gets sitting in the lift, or in the water I think its going to be more then worth it.

I too was concerned about buying this and then selling the boat. Honestly though I just don't see anything I NEED more then what I have right now. Now that I'm in GA I don't have my big boating crew, so I don't need the space, and to upgrade to anything worth while your talking 4x what I even owe on my boat. I just cant justify 75K extra debt on a new boat when I had a seriously bad azz boat already LOL

Finally making some progress on the stereo. It took a few different layouts to get everything to fit onto the stock amp rack. I switched out the stock 4 position dual battery switch for the dual circuit plus with ACR. I like the simplicity of it and having 2 completely independent battery banks. The stereo and house loads will be wired to 2 Deka group 31 batteries. Cranking battery will be 1 stock battery. I still need do all of the wiring in the boat like running RCA's and rewiring the tower with 12 awg wire.

I'm also still trying to figure out how to mount the Rev 10's to the stock upper locations. My dealer had some extra upper JL Audio mounts for me to play around with. Turns out the bolt pattern is the same. The problem is the bolt size is different, The JL's are 5/16-18 and the Wetsounds M8-1.25. I'm going to try to use a flat head 5/16 bolt in the wetsounds plate even though the plate has a 90 degree counter sink (for the metric bolt) and the 5/16 bolts are 82 degrees.

If that doesn't work I'm going to get some adapter plates machined. The design uses a pocket in the back of the plate so the Wetsounds mount would be through bolted. I don't like threading into aluminum in a bolt this size or using a stainless steel bolt into aluminium threads in a marine environment. The pocket also allows for a large bend radius for the wiring. I found a machine shop that quoted less than $200 for the pair with black anodizing. That was way less than anyone else but the quality is unknown at this point.

Turns out the Wetsounds swivel mounts can bolt directly to the stock JL audio mounts.

I ordered mine yesterday, black with Silver Flake outline. FYI...Quantity 1 includes stickers for both sides of the boat. I was in a hurry and thought that meant I needed to order 2. They sent me an email right away, saying we have refunded your PayPal that there is no need to order 2.

Finally finished up the stereo. Ended up going with 2 12" Alpine Type S subs in a sealed box. They are powered by a JL Audio M1000/1. Tried two other amps. The Wetsounds SD2 had turn on pop and the Arc Audio XDi 1100.1 had noise. The box is concealed with a trim panel wrapped in factory vinyl and an LED illuminated acrylic ring. The panel is secured to the box with magnets which makes it very easy to remove for any reason.

The original plan was to use a Wetsounds WS-220 for zone control but it would be difficult to integrate into the dash and still look good. As an alternative 3 PAC LC-1's were through mounted into the right side of the dash. Due to the differential balanced outputs of the Murphy system, when ever the LC-1's were used it created noise in the system. The solution was to add a Matrix line driver under the dash.

Really happy with the way everything sounds. On to the pics.

Yes, the interior is coated too and the glass. I originally was only interested in getting the interior done but ended up doing to whole boat.
