View Full Version : Leftover '16 vs ordered '17 Helix ----any differences?

Hey Guys,

Working a deal on a Helix and trying to make sure I'm not missing anything between a 16 and 17. Any standard equipment that changed to know about? Only options difference I'm aware of is the Autowake feature which for the savings on this leftover I'm pretty sure I'll be fine without.

Where should I be shooting price wise? Interested to hear what people have paid for their Helix.

This one is pretty loaded, but is technically a year old since 2017's are out so I want to pay appropriately.

Options wise it's pretty loaded:

Metalflake
Color upcharge on hull
Black chrome graphic
Flow surf package
Non skid gunnel and bow
Cleats
Non skid flooring
Swivel racks
Bimini
Full cover
Bow cushion
Dual batteries with charger
Spare tire with bracket
7pin plug
Guide pole covers
Swing tongue
Transom straps
Water strainer and flush kit

So about the only thing it needs is a stereo, which I'm capable of adding myself. Wish it had trailer steps on the back but that's not a need.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Might think about waiting for the boat show and ordering then. There are usually a ton of incentives to order the newest model then.

Yeah that's my big hiccup, incentives aren't out yet and I'm not sure when this boat will sell. It's discounted about 20% though and I can't see getting close to that off an ordered one.

That does quite a bit! Thanks

The newer Autoflow 2.0 system is a definite improvement over the 2016 version.

Thanks for the input. My local dealer stepped up and is getting me setup right in a '17! Build date in February so it's going to be a loooooooong winter wait.

What changed other than autowake? Just curious.

The screen display (graphics) on the 2017 are totally different and look like an Xbox 360, vs the Black and white Atari like graphics from 2016 etc. The surf tabs were also redesigned and improved (larger). Not sure what else.....

So let me get this straight. The 16's had larger plates than the 16's and now the 17's have larger autoflow plates again?

Fingers crossed that they're a direct swap!

That was supposed to say 16's had larger plates that 15's, but I'm sure you guys caught my typo.

I know for a fact that the surf tabs on my 2017 Craz are larger and a different shape to the 2016 Craz I saw at the dealer.

I do not doubt you. I answered based on what I saw at my dealer. Their 2017 boat plates looked just like the 2016's. They had all four models.

I was surprised when I first read it to. That means there would be a different plate in 15, 16, and 17.

Any pics of the potentially new plates in 2017?

Would you mind taking some pics and or measurements of the plates on your 17? I'd like to have somewhat of an idea what I'm talking about when I start hassling me dealer for some larger 17 plates.

I found a pic the dealer took, but its not clear. The wakeplates also have these metal strips bolted to the underside to direct the water flow along the underside of the plate, kind of like low profile skegs.

The autoflow 2.0 in 16 also had the metal strips on the bottom to direct water. It is tough to tell from that picture whether the plates themselves are larger, but they do look very similar. Thanks for the pics!

Helix plates are exactly the same, and the new screen came out in 2016 with the release of the Helix.

The physical screen may be the same but the GUI is totally different, as I got a 2016 manual with my 2017 Craz as the 2017 manual wasn't available, and the display graphics shown in my manual look NOTHING like my actual GUI.

I guess in boat buying I will always feel like I missed new tech by 6 months! Things keep changing and improving.

I think that new colored screen was only available on the late release 2016 Helix and now standard on all of the 2017's. That is why it isn't in the 2016 manual.

I'm looking at a helix now, can anyone tell what is a good price on a helix that is moderately equipped? (Bimini, surf system, and stationary board racks, tandem trailer. That's about all the options)

I'm looking at a 16 vs. 17 Helix too. The 16 was a dealer demo and has 50 hours on it. I'm a potential new boat owner and struggling on how to value that 50 hours? Would love some opinions. Looking at $61,000 MSRP with a $8,100 discount. That includes the new auto wake system, swing hitch, cover, nonskid and flooring. I have to option in Bimini, tower speakers, depth finder, etc. Any help would be appreciated!

Something to think about and only YOU can decide this, is how much the build and design matters to YOU. I have friends that would pass on that part of it to save a grand, but myself that was very special to me picking the colors and options and knowing it was truly MINE. But everyone is different but something to think about. I absolutely loved designing my boat from scratch and had them leave off all the factory moomba tags because they didn't fit my personal taste.
