Yesterday we went out early expecting amazing conditions. It started barely good enough to slalom and progressively got rougher, with a few whitecaps by noon. Cloudy, chilly.

However, a friend brought out a Miro M120 video camera (with a $60k price tag and the ability to do 1500 frames per second, it's not a camera you get to have on the boat every day!)

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/IMG953170_zpslzwkjanw.jpg

Not sure when he'll have time to get me the footage, but beggers can't be choosers!

Afterwards, some Mango Margaritas, chips/salsa, and steak fajitas on the waterfront.

Today we again went out early and this time the conditions delivered. Yeah, it was still cloudy, but I was MUCH happier with the water.

Smooth enough to see the reflection.

The wife took a few surf sets, and decided it was time for her to try the Doomswell Nubstep. She was grinning from ear to ear. She was pretty stoked to step up to riding a high end board, and she did it well.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/IMG_20160905_134729_zps0o4abdio.jpg

And after she warmed up the Doomswell, I got to take it for a little spin.

Well the 575 is no joke of a motor! Fully loaded boat and ballast and no problem getting on plane. By far the best driving boat I have got to play with. Had a drag race with a 22 Supra worlds, man that was funny.

working on the butter slide.
Working on a power slide.

Have him try a backside butter slide. Basically the same dynamics as the regular butterslide, but do it on the other side of the wake and on the toe edge facing backwards. I'm regular and I drop my right hand, and am holding the rope in my left behind me (facing away from the boat) and sliding on my toe edge. You can lay it out and touch the water with the hand you're not holding on with. I just started doing it out of the blue a few weeks back. On both of them, I can throw up a wall of spray and give myself a shower. LOL.

He started trying that Sunday. He can go butter slide backwards but I want him to power slide out of it. Basically a backwards butter slide lol.

Hmmm well the last time my in laws were at our cabin a couple years ago my father in law fell off the dock and dislocated his shoulder. After going into shock and the ambulance taking forever to get to him we finally got to the hospital. After a few hrs there and getting his shoulder back in place we finally leave to head back to our cabin. Now dark he and I walk back down to the dock and I hear water splashing again, turn back and he had fallen at the exact same spot. I was like WTF DON and he begged my not to tell my wife or his wife. Needless to say I didn't and he hasn't been back. So at least you had a better time then my in laws.

Langston you need to pick up a swing. The one we were using was just a $15 door bouncer. The outdoor playground swing that was also posted would be better for going across the water than the bouncer. We went this route because it stores completely flat and takes up no space at all.

Throat punch away but it's not weather related. This weekend we are going to SA to hit up six flags and then it's back to work for three weeks for me. When I get home in Oct we have Nolans 1st birthday party that first Saturday and the next weekend we are headed to Saint Marteen for a week and won't get back until the following weekend and then it's back to work for three weeks. When I get home and have a free weekend it will be mid November...

So, we went out last night. Temps were warm enough for late summer and we were willing to chance the smoothness of the water since there was a breeze in the forecast.

We got to the launch and I'd never seen water that low. An I/O had struggled its way back to its trailer, so I got out and checked out the conditions. I figured that our boat drafts pretty shallow, so I figured we'd be okay.

I was wrong.

The water level covered the concrete of the launch and the boat came off the trailer just fine. about 10' from the water line, the depth was about 5' deep and by 20' out, the water was 7 to 9 feet deep. However, in the next 5 feet it quickly went to waist high and then to 1 foot deep. It was almost all sand (with a couple rocks here and there). Needless to say, the boat got stuck in the sand and no amount of lifting or pushing could get us through it. all 3 of us by this time were out of the boat, which was pointing with the bow away from the launch by this point. We really had no choice but to take a bow line and have an I/O that was further out in the deeper water give us a GENTLE pull through the sand. (it would have been more work to get the boat in from where we were at).

I felt confident that the tide would raise the level of the river as the evening progressed, so once we got free of the sand bar in the middle of the launch, we went out into the river to try to enjoy the rest of our evening. We didn't get very far at all (the engine had been idling this whole time) when the engine went into limp mode and would only do 3,000 RPM's. I looked over and saw the temp gauge starting to spike. I shut the engine down and started to think of what I could do...

I have a reversible pump for filling two of my auxillary ballast bags. When I plumbed this pump, I put in an extra TEE with a ball valve after it and stubbed it out to a connection for a length of hose. At the end of that hose was a flow-rite fitting to allow it to serve as a backup to my other ballast pumps. I rummaged through my bag of extra fittings and found a 3/4" hose barb to male garden hose fitting and put that at the end of the hose. I opened up the bilge and screwed that hose fitting into my Flush Pro (that typically would let me run the boat off the garden hose on land). I turned on the reversible and restarted the engine. shortly, the temp started dropping and in less than a minute, the temps were back down to normal and even cooler than normal. The solution worked!

I took off the hose connected to the flush pro and ran the engine normal, and things stayed at the normal operating temp. We motored to our normal ride spot and the water was rough and everyone was cold.

I pulled up the chart that shows the river level and could see that the low point was when we launched at 6pm and the high point was around midnight. The 9pm to 10pm window looked like a decent time to shoot for as a compromise between water level and being out ALL night.

The vertical lines are 2' apart. If you look at the observed levels, they were even lower than predicted. We launched at about 6pm (blue circle) and pulled the boat out after 10pm (green circle).
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/Water%20Level_zps9fwgstmz.jpg

We decided to motor back to a dock on the river with a cool restaurant a short walk away. We figured that killing a little time as the water level rose would be best in a warm restaurant looking out over the river while drinking tasty adult beverages and fantastic appetizers.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/20160908_195314_zpszix96yzr.jpg

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/20160908_195329_zpsttdtiwbx.jpg

We got back to the launch around 10pm and docked the boat at the end (where it was deeper). I had a headlamp so I was able to walk the dock and the water level looked a LOT better. We backed the truck in and unloaded all the passengers from the boat. I was able to drive the boat all the way to the trailer, just bumping the throttle to get it there. The depth gauge never went below 3 feet and we got out of the river just fine. I was pretty thankful to have the boat back safe on the trailer.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/20160908_223901_zpsett6kojw.jpg

It was a long night filled with 20/20 hindsight and lots of problem solving, but I learned some lessons and thankfully the boat seems fine.

We didn't get very far at all (the engine had been idling this whole time) when the engine went into limp mode and would only do 3,000 RPM's. I looked over and saw the temp gauge starting to spike. I shut the engine down and started to think of what I could do...

Ideas on what caused the temperature spike? I wouldn't think extended idling would have caused a problem, you think the intake was clogged with the whole 'gentle drag through the sand' part?

Odd that once you cooled it down via auxiliary pump it stayed that way on it's normal feed.

Well, I have to believe that something was clogging the intake (sand or seaweed). I must have flushed it out or the obstruction came out of the intake thru hull. No, the idling wouldn't be a big deal. the engine stays plenty cool at idle. It most certainly had something to do with getting stuck.

Hung out with these Jackasses this last week in Cabo! No wake surfing (everyone in the photos does except for one) but plenty of fun even when hurricane Newton came blasting through. Even without power and all of the things that go with it like, A/C, lights and so on, they kept us in stitches and we kept the fun rolling. It was a he!! of an extended birthday weekend for Jeff.

All of us guys in one shot, you probably know most of them. Me on the right too dressed up in black. Damn I look fat!

There was sandy beach here, people for scale. We figure about 9ft. deep of sand got taken away.

So our rivers are still really low here in Portland. After Thursday's challenges, I decided to try a different dock that I knew wouldn't have any depth/sandbar issues.

The depth wasn't a problem, but I was a little surprised when the wheels of the trailer dropped off the end of the concrete and pretty much had the trailer laying frame on the ramp. Again, we were at low tide, so I knew it'd be better when we were done boating. We got the boat off the trailer just fine, and with an empty trailer, it was easy enough to pop the wheels back up onto the concrete of the ramp (truck was in 4 low and locked up on the rear diff).

Was able to jump straight on the ski and get a great run. Then filled up the gravity games bag and did a wakeboard set.

When we got back to the dock, we timed it so that we were at a higher tide level. It's crazy that we're like 70 to 80 miles from the Pacific Ocean and the tides still seem to impact us so much. I backed the trailer in and it never dropped off the concrete, so getting out was easy enough. All in all, a fantastic day on the water.

Last night we got on the water for some surfing, I've had quite the weekend and they were calling for rain so I wasn't planning on even going out last night. Being after Labor day, even in the SE people are putting their boats away already. I just don't get it, but I like it because at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon we had premium water in the main channel.

Also as some know I have a Wake makers Wave Control on my Mojo, and its been hit or miss on how the wave is. I have been having some issues with the potentiometer that adjusts the intensity of the wave. Well last night I figured out it was connected backwards and this whole time we have been lowering the wave when we thought we were increasing it.

Anyhow we are back to stage 1 with testing now that I have it working correctly, and man, let me tell you the Goofy wave was seriously impressive.

No matter how much weight, or people I have ever had, the goofy wave was never so long Claudia could get this fare back, and she was all the way out to the side of the boat.

I was only running Goofy 1180
Regular 600
Hard tank 600.
Wake plate up and speed at 10.2

I can now start playing with more weights and adjustments knowing she has so much more wave now.

Earlier in the day before I figured out the adjustment issue.

This is after we turned the adjustment all the way up from all the way down, no changes in the boat.

Same here in UT but the water gets cold pretty quick in the mountain lakes. Think on Sunday it was low 60's water and 50 air to start the day, by the time warm sun came the breeze decided to play. Have a trip planned for early OCT for Lake Powell, should be prime everything for a long weekend of riding.

Here ya go. She's super excited about it. I got her the 4'4" spark plug, which is designed to be really forgiving edge to edge. She is looking forward to carving it up. And if she wants something different, she can always ride my Nubstep. The traction is also a little milder than the Agenda traction on my Nubstep, so I think she'll like it. And her favorite color is blue, so she likes the look of the board. Kind of a retro feel to it.

I liked the idea, I just was a bit wary of it due to engine fumes. but ya'all assured me that it wouldn't be an issue. Plus, I figure it'd make a great spot to keep leftover pizza warm (in airtight ziplock bags of course).

And I'm always down for a project, especially if it give me more storage.

Yeah, I could have had my buddy that does HVAC fabrication make me one pretty easy. but $70 was enough for me to spend. Stainless and aluminum are both pretty expensive these days.

Early morning riding on the James River Richmond, VA

Jason – When boating on the James, at the end of day do you flush engine and ballast with fresh water? I understand the river forms in the Appalachians and flows east some 400 miles to the ocean and salt water. Given that the James flows past Richmond about eighty miles west of the bay, am thinking the water is brackish and prone to causing corrosion. Interested in your experience and just how far downstream you are comfortable navigating without exposing your freshwater boat to contamination. – Stuart

Went to a new launch to avoid our low water worries. worked out great and the low wind forecast DELIVERED.

With water like this and still having 80 degree air and 67 degree water, who wouldn't be happy? (well, that is once we got rid of the tubers that were messing it up).
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/14317379_10210544870962480_7788551833034319157_n_z psoh8wfsn0.jpg

And with water like that, of course I'm gonna start with a ski.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/ski_zpsovksuund.jpg
Which was a blast until I got what I think was some cavitation and my ski literally lost its edge and slipped out from under me. An unexpected slap at 30mph is never fun. When i got out of the water, I looked at my ski and there were a series of chips out of it along the edge in the center of the ski. chips deep enough that white was showing through the red of the ski. I think that even as small as they were, it was enough to disrupt the flow of water on my edge and cause my ski to slide out. So I have some fiberglass resin curing on the ski and I'll sand those spots down to a nice smooth consistent edge again.

The wakeboarding delivered today as well. Bit hops on smooth water. Me likey.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/14352117_10211413147552944_2607550740102170252_o_z psaezjjmt1.jpg

And the wife got to try out her anniversary present: her 4'4" Doomswell Sparkplug. I rode it after her and it was honestly a kick in the pants. really fast and carved great. it actually felt fantastic as I rode it up the face of the wave and popped up on the top. It wouldn't surprise me if I was actually able to air on the Sparkplug before I can on my Nubstep. I still love my Nubstep, but it's great to have another Doomswell board in the family, and one with a completely different character that's a blast to ride for different reasons. They bill it as a "beginner to intermediate" board, but I think it's plenty intermediate and above. It's certainly not something that she's going to outgrow or get bored with. And I love riding it too, so it's great to have some variety in the family.

I've only taken the boat out once since putting it in, but not so far. The only thing I'm really doing is making the engine compartment effectively smaller. I'm not taking away any ventilation. I can tell you that we tossed our Gryos (in a ziplock) into the tray and a while later they were nice and warm! I'm thinking pizza in there would be rad! LOL.

Was able to get out this weekend and escape the rain in Vancouver/Portland. We had a waterfront cabin at Lake Billy Chinook for my 5 year wedding anniversary weekend.

Sitting on the porch of the cabin, with my boat docked over on the left.

Got Balls???? The boat was very protected with an ARMY of Exile Buoy balls!
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/IMG_20160917_112543_zps52ci4zbg.jpg

Saturday we got decent water to start, but the afternoon gave us whitecaps. We found a window where it settled down enough to each get an evening surf set.

Sunday however made up for it. I never get tired of looking at water like this. And this water was after I'd already got in a long slalom and wakeboard set.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/20160918_085836_zpsvzwcush0.jpg

So that meant the wife got to surf with glass and hardly any other boats around. She didn't complain! And she's loving her new Doomswell Sparkplug. (and I think it's a lot of fun to ride too).

Sadly, we ended our weekend at the lake by taking the boat out of the water and trailering it to the dealer for a service and indoor winter storage. Having a day like this made it tough to actually leave the lake. Here's the view from our lower patio:

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160920/692cf9186f7d0b8e33bce2a67c5a4de9.jpg

With such a beautiful day, I was tempted to try and squeeze in one last surfing session before we left:

All buttoned up before the LSV goes indoors for the long Northern Wisconsin winter! On the positive side of things, with the boat now packed away for the winter, it's time to now focus on getting the Ski Doo's ready to roll for winter!

Killer hulls on those MTIs. I've been on poker runs in Knoxville and Atlanta to see those. Not the center console model, but the 42' or 48' cats with twin Merc 1350s. Huge rooster tails. They get up over 100 mph and just ride on top of any waves.
Love Quad 400s on probably a 42'. Dang, imagine that gas bill!!!

Gas bill? It's only a cool 1.3 million for the boat.
I've been on DCB M35 with duel super charged 1350's doing 130 mph on Lake Powell. Crazy the faster you go the smoother the ride is. Here's another MTI that most are used to seeing and it's a one bad boy!

So tonight started off pretty awesome. Despite having low water and not very much daylight, we got on the water okay. The launch was only about 3' deep, but we made it work. And this was what we got to see in the main channel motoring out to our spot:

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/20160922_180937_zpsd56brkiv.jpg

I got in two great slalom runs on water that was even smoother than above. It was fantastic. My buddy hadn't skied in over a year and unfortunately it just didn't click for him to get up on his ski and we went straight to surfing so my wife could have some fun. She got a great surf run on perfect water.

After that it was my turn to surf, and a night surf is what it was.
Had a blast out there and surfed the length of the slough.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/t%20night_zpsglznrefm.jpg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCSNdgECrB8

For my buddy, it was even more of a night surf. It was also his way of saying goodbye to summer with "Summertime Sadness", "My Sweet Summer is Gone" and other songs chosen for that.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/d%20night_zpsgwdfnjfn.jpg

After that we put away all the boards, drained the ballast and headed back through the main channel of the Columbia River to get back to the dock...

And that's where our night took a turn for the worse.

trayson

So, I NOW know this, but until tonight I had no idea of the following:

On the Columbia River, the US Government has treaties with the Native American tribes that protect their rights to fish as they see fit on the Columbia. So when they decide it's their fishing season, they get in big boats with net reels on the bow, and sting out nets for distances of 100 yards to easily 1/2 mile or more across the river. Their nets have white buoys along the top rope, and there's a flashing stobe that marks the end anchor point of their nets.

So here we are, an hour and a half after sunset, motoring back in the dark when we pass a fishing boat in the dark with a net stung 80% of the way across the river. They flashed a spotlight at us, but it was too little too late. we JUST crossed their net line and sure enough had our running gear tangled in their net's top rope.

Turns out that I had a buoy lodged between the back of my rudder and my prop, and I had the top rope wrapped around my prop shaft in front of the prop. Not the greatest thing to have happen in the dark on the middle of the river. Ultimately I put on my Heater Jacket (water was in the upper 60's) and got out my dive mask and snorkel. We also happened to have a couple of telescoping docking poles (cheater sticks) that we tried to use to get the rope/net out of the way.

After a few trips under the boat to look at how stuck we were, I realized our only way out would be to cut the top rope of their net and also cut out some of the netting. I also carry a floating knife on the boat (and finding it in the dark took a while, but we found it). It saved our butts to have it. I ended up having to cut the rope in a couple spots, including where it was wrapped around the prop shaft. Diving under repeatedly sucked and there was one time where I came up for air only to fine myself with the fishing net over my head and around my feet. It was a pretty hairy moment trying to keep my head above water to breathe while caught in the fishing net. I ended up getting a few slices from the net on my finger and toe, but at least I didn't drown. Going under the boat with my comp vest proved the best balance of being able to get under and still have flotation when I surfaced.

Ultimately it took us a half hour or more of diving, and cutting and dealing with the situation. I was able to get most of the netting cut away with just a bit of residual on my prop that I'll be dealing with later.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/20160922_221741_zpsdkmfvnyp.jpg

over the next mile of river, we counted easily 15 of these net boats. This is what you'd see. Boat with spotlights on the front and if you look REALLY hard you can see the white buoys when you're right on top of them.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/net%20boat_zpst4pxmlbf.jpg

Here's the top rope with a buoy coming out from under my swim platform.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/caught_zpstlyzwa7r.jpg

Can you see the sting of buoys coming off the side of my boat at the top of the pic? Yeah, neither did we.
http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/buoys_zpsuxmeuojs.jpg

Many will say I should have known better, but this wasn't something that was in my boaters education course or that I've ever seen reference to at the launches or anything. I definitely learned the hard way. Yes, I was ignorant that they could stretch their nets across the river in the middle of the night. And I know it sucked for him to have his net cut about as much as it sucked for me to have to deal with it on my end. Thankfully no one was hurt and that my boat wasn't tangled up any worse.

we spent the rest of the drive back to the dock weaving between all the rest of the net boats with tons more dotting the river well past where we thankfully were able to pull our boat out.

EDIT: found out that it's not a native American thing. It's Commercial Gill net fishing. I hope the practice gets banned. It's the fishing equivalent of strip mining. they get all sorts of other fish/animals caught in their nets that die as collateral damage. Lame.

Yeah, their nets can be 1/4 of a mile long and they're allowed to place their nets across the commercial shipping channel. Now that I know what to look for, I can weave through them in the future. But there's little to no education out there to let other boaters know what's up.

LOL. I had more neoprene I could have put on (the bottoms to my old farmer johns). so basically I could have been in a 3/2 setup pretty easy. I could have even put on my ski gloves. But really with water around 68 and that much adrenaline, it wasn't necessary. Thank God for the dive mask, snorkel, and floating knife.

Need a fishing buddy to check in with because they will know and most of them will save their time by staying home as the fish counts drop fast. Took some of our friends visiting from Iowa to the launch and they showed off some the salmon. Fishing is picking up and the boats came in after dark. A lot more boats on the water than summer time. Gotta watch damaging nets as it is a sensitive subject with the tribes and F&G.

Yeah, I get it. I can see it from their side. I'm sure they HATE ignorant wakeboat owners with fancy blinged out blue LED's and a loud stereo.

Of course, it's harder to feel sympathetic when you don't agree with gill net fishing in the first place. I put it right up there with strip mining and clear cut logging. And the fact that I don't eat fish doesn't help either, LOL.

I can pretty much guarantee that there was no love lost on either side.

Pretty happy to have a sporty wife. She loves to go out on the boat as much as I do. Even when temps are in the 50's.

With smooth water, first up is always a slalom run.

After a couple head slappers at 30mph, I've been getting more vigilant about preventing headaches. Got a new decal at a ski movie premier that was quite fitting:

Love this thread! I just got myself a moomba after years of wanting one...
I will post pics soon I hope. Going to get it late next week!
2007 Mobius LSV 1 owner and only 99hours. It looks to have been pampered and well taken care of!
Got it at the same dealer that sold it new and has serviced it every year. I had to jump on it!
CAN'T WAIT!

Congrats and welcome. 99hrs? Wow, that thing was barely used at all. You will love the boat, i have an 07 LSV as well. Feel free to pm if you have any questions on anything.

Wife and son of course got their surf on. I let my son use one of my "surf hats" to add some style. Water temp started at 60 and finished at 70.

So we slept in, got on the water about 11am. Had rad conditions for most of the day. I did slalom, then the wife and son did long surf sets, then I wakeboarded, then I surfed. and after chilling a while, the water was even smoother with no one else out, so I broke out the slalom ski again.
When we left at 5pm, we were all tired in a good way and had this to ourselves with no other boats around:

EDIT: found out that it's not a native American thing. It's Commercial Gill net fishing. I hope the practice gets banned. It's the fishing equivalent of strip mining. they get all sorts of other fish/animals caught in their nets that die as collateral damage. Lame.

Not how it works...
They have revival troughs on the boats and are required by law to revive and release incidental catches. They are heavily regulated.
How do you think salmon get to the stores?

By the way, did you speak to the Capt. after you ran over his net? You are liable for damages to the net. Pretty healthy fine if you left the scene and didn't report it to the Capt.

I feel bad for Trayson. If it were me those fisherman could eat a bag of dicks. Shouldn't be taking 80% of the waterway to catch fish. Regardless of federal or local laws, this is a crock of shit. I would have taken that net and cut it out of my boat and gave them and ear full. Call me an asshole, but that shouldn't be allowed and seems like a huge safety concern. I ride the Columbia a lot up here in my area and luckily never came across this.

Maybe they do all follow the "rules". All I know is that they are pretty much universally hated. And I'm certainly not a fan. I wouldn't shed a tear if they all disappeared tomorrow. And I promise you, I'll never eat salmon again. :-)

Don't stress about it Newty, their boat was right there acknowledging the fact that the only way they were getting my boat out of that net is by having me cut it off.

It would be a pretty healthy fine for them if they left their nets unattended at night stretching across the river.

This is how it looked. But that big freighter wasn't parked at the dock like in the google maps picture. instead, it was an open pier, but with tons of really bright stadium style lights illuminating the water in front of it. The flashing strobe was where I have the red circle (so hard to see with the backdrop being the pier's lighting). The gill netter's boat was over against the barges (green star) and the net stretched across the yellow line. That part of the river is about 2000 feet wide.

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/river_zpseeozjak7.jpg

Like I said, I was ignorant of what I was supposed to be looking for. I've most certainly done plenty of outings on the boat during their seasons, but it seems they must be doing it at night. Because when I looked it up, their season extends to 9/30 and they weren't out at all yesterday. But that night, it was a maze of their nets.

Approx 1100 surf side (as much as she'll take)
Approx 50% of 1100 on non surf side
Approx 50% of factory bow+ibs
Flow approx 80% for starboard and 65% for port
Wakeplate approx 90-100% up
Speed approx 10.8

Dropping weight seems counter-intuitive but it's working for me. I had some guys surf last weekend that normally ride behind a Moomba LSV, had just ridden an NXT22, and got on my boat and commented it wasn't even close ... Mojo for the win by a long shot.

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/sunset%20glass_zpsn1rvm49z.jpg

I got the full on night surf. In Oregon you're allowed to ride until sunset. But in WA, you're allowed to ride until an hour after sunset. And when you're on a river that shares a border with two states, the more lenient of the two laws apply. So night surfing definitely happens!

*and no Gill Netters on the water tonight. So that was nice. And I really appreciate the runway lights on the trailer. (they're always a big hit at the launch too).
Hoping we can milk a few more days during October. This weekend is RAIN, so fall in the PNW will soon crush my dreams (until it gets cold enough to snow on Mt Hood).

Stazi you're so close to landing the backroll. I would suggest to speed up a little bit to get rid of the white what your rotation is starting in. This will allow the board to release a little quicker and get your rotation all the way around. What speed are you currently riding at and how much ballast?

Stazi
09-28-2016, 11:13 AM
I slow down to 22 to minimize the impact. Most times I'm landing smoothly on the board, but my posture isn't always ideal to ride out of it.

Slow down to 22?? What do you normally ride at? What length are you riding?

I'm surprised your wake isn't significantly cleaner at 22. What's the ballast setup?

Stazi

Usually ride at 24. That was my buddies XLV. At 24 it's cleaner, but when we slow to 22 it washes out a bit.

Ahhh, ok. I saw the Craz in your signature and knew the wake could be much better.

How fast do you ride on the Craz?

On your Craz, I bet you could slow down to 20-21 and come in 5 ft until you get the rotation down. Wakeplate all the way up should add more lip like DFTR was mentioning.

You are close!

Speaking of XLV's, we actually changed up the ballast. usually we go from no ballast (slalom) to just the front 1180 for wakeboarding, to over 3k for surfing. But Saturday we went from slalom to surf. then the water smoothed out enough for wakeboarding, so I only drained enough to equal out the sides.

It was a blast with 50% to 60% in the rear 1100's.

I did pop the speed up from 21.5 to 22.

The two pics are a great visual representation of what I mean when people ask how I like the new boat .... "it's a lot easier to use". Moomba made solid strides in wake consistency.

The two pics are a great visual representation of what I mean when people ask how I like the new boat .... "it's a lot easier to use". Moomba made solid strides in wake consistency.

So in about 6 years when my boat is paid off, I'll buy your boat! I'll be able to afford it then. :-)

However, I don't know if I'll yet have worked my way up to inverts even by then.

Saddest day of the season. Winterized and in cocoon until next year.

It's addictive. That is the reason I only put 4 hours on my boat this year.

Thanks [emoji51] wish we had another month of warm weather.
