I am installing a ws420bt. It has red(power), black(ground), and blue(remote) leads.

My question is with the blue remote lead. Is that a remote lead TO switch on the 420 from the head unit or is that a lead FROM the 420 to remote switch on the amps.

I have a head unit now but am considering removing it so how would the blue 420 wire work then?

Guess would be amps.

With a traditional head unit, I prefer to just use its 12V amp turn-on to trigger the amps and EQ. So yes, the WS-420 blue wire gets treated the same as an amp's turn-on terminal. If you delete the head-unit, which i dont see a need to, you would have to then relocate that amp-turn-on to a switched 12V. IMO, as long as the head unit turns on and triggers the amps and EQ, keep using it for that.

Awesome, thanks guys!
I think I'll leave well enough alone and keep the head unit in place. Besides, someone may come along with one of those antique spinning disc things...
