I need to replace my fenders after the blow outs last month.

I'm thinking I might upgrade to 18s,

I'm looking for a Moomba owner possibly who can measure the width of the fenders so I know which ones I should by, also I can check for fit since mine didn't come with 18s.

Also can you post the size of tires so I can see how they would fit.

Supra owner could post this info as well but I don't know if all the measurements are the same.

Thanks

Mike, I have 18's on mine. My fenders are 11" wide. The tire size is 255/45/18. I hope this helps.

Kurt, thanks thats exactly the Info I was looking for.

I am pretty sure when you order a Boatmate trailer with 18s they make the steps wider to make it look more natural but I want to build a little template to see how they will look on mine since it was designed as 14 wheels. I hope it looks good still, not sure if moving to 18s is justified but if I am buying new wheels and tires again already then it can't be too much more in price for the change over lol.

Here's the tire difference info. I think they will fit height wise as they are only an inch taller, just need to see how much wider your fender is from mine.

205/75-14 255/45-18 Difference
Diameter inches (mm) 26.11 (663.1) 27.04 (686.7) 0.93 (23.6) 3.6%
Width inches (mm) 8.07 (205) 10.04 (255) 1.97 (50) 24.4%
Circum. inches (mm) 82.02 (2083.19) 84.93 (2157.33) 2.92 (74.14) 3.6%
Sidewall Height inches (mm) 6.05 (153.75) 4.52 (114.75) -1.54 (-39) -25.4%
Revolutions per mile (km) 772.54 (480.03) 745.99 (463.53) -26.55 (-16.5) -3.4%

No way, the fenders are the only difference.

I was pretty sure they were, just needed verification. This is why I'm thinking if upgrading it all now lol

I need to buy larger rims to get better weight rated tires because that's what the tire shop said caused my blow outs. Pretty much what the first shop said when I lost all 4 the first year. Separation due to running the tires at their max capacity.

That made a lot of sense when you told me that. Brains X25 hasn't had a single issue since 2012 on 18's except for 1 curb lol

Now that I know the actual weight of my boat/trailer combo, maybe I should take a look at my tire's rating... Ya got me thinkin' Mike.

That's dangerous...

That's dangerous...

Just thinking of verifying the weight rating of my tires. I'm NOT changing my wheels if I can help it. I like the ones I finally ended up with and how they match the truck. I've got into parking lots where I've had to do some "curb crawling" so I'm not about to swap out my 14's for something with little sidewall. On my cars, yes--I run 19's. But not on the trailer.

But verifying the weight ratings of my tires would be wise before I have an experience like yours. When I got all my tires, I was underestimating the weight of my setup.

Speaking of the weight ratings of tires, how much "cushion" do you want to have with your load ratings? What's "enough"?

Let's say that my boat and trailer weigh 6,250 off the truck. If I have tires that are rated for 1,760 each, am I fine with 7k of capacity? And am I really concerned about the gross weight of the boat/trailer, or would it be the net weight when you subtract out the tongue weight? (my boat/trailer weighs about 5,500 if you subtract off the tongue weight).

Thoughts?

EDIT: I Found this on Discount Tire's Website:

•The combined capacity of all of the tires should exceed the loaded trailer weight by 20 percent.

EDIT #2: What load rating are you trying to accomplish Mike?

Mike, here's a link to one of the tires I found that was a load range D in our 205.75.r14 tire size.

https://www.etrailer.com/Tires-and-Wheels/Kenda/AM10235.html

Load range D, 8 ply, rated for 2,040 at 65psi max.
