My family and I don't camp much and don't have a tent. Last time we camped we borrowed and tent and it was a disaster. My thought it was fill up a twin air matress and set on the floor of my boat and sleep on seats/air matress. Only concern is covering us at night. Any ideas to cover us up?

We have slept on the boat multiple times. I cover it at night and we just have the normal blankets and some couch throw pillows.

Boat in camp! It's my favorite. Buy a quick setup tent for about $100 and you will be set.

Do you use boat cover?

Yes, we have the full cover with the string that goes up over the tower. That string pulling it up gives plenty of headroom under the cover.

Hunkering under a boat cover reminds me of two things: a bad day on the water and a sauna. Get a wonderful blue tarp and put over the tower and propped up on both ends.

When we leave our boat in the slip at the campground overnight, we put the snap cover on it. In the morning, it's mind blowing the number of mosquitos and other bugs that are covering the outside of the cover AND are all over the seats and floor UNDER the cover. Bugs EVERYWHERE. Yuck.

While sleeping in the boat could be comfy I suppose, I'd have to be bathed in insect repellant and that's not my idea of a good time. We're pretty lucky in that we've been able to get State Campgrounds that have boat slips and a few "Camping Cabins". they have A/C, microwave, kitchen sink, fridge, futon, bunk bed, and our own bathroom/shower. They're rad! At $90 a night, they're way cheaper than owning an RV. They are HARD to get because they are swooped up so fast, but we've been luckly so far.

We're also another trip in a couple weeks where we're teaming up with some friends that have a 43' 5th wheel toyhauler. we'll all sleep in their RV and we'll bring the boat/truck for us all to play on.

We've also done a trip where we stayed in a hotel 20 minutes from the lake. That wasn't bad. Hot tub and free hot breakfast was nice.

Personally I cant imagine sleeping on a boat in Texas. Especially not with a cover on unless you had an ac unit. I have lived here most of my life and was born here, yet I still think its hot. I might be able to sleep IN the water! Maybe in early spring or fall and Christmas Day ;-)

Premium rv spots get swooped as fast as those cabins, pretty crazy.

We only "boat camp" in April and early may before the Temps gets out of control

A friend of mine bought a mosquito net from bed bath and beyond that is made to go over a patio umbrella. We put it over the Bimini top and it works well for keeping the bugs off you.

If you really want to sleep in the boat - I would go with the mosquito net.

If you have an Aldi's near you, last time I was in one they had family size tents for about $40.

used to tent camp all the time in idaho. the county sprays for mosquitos and can't remember the last time I saw one there.

now here in titletown, places to do that are slim and not a chance I would ever sleep on a boat or in a tent. too many mosquitos to mess with.

We bought a class c that we tow and launch with. With 2 kids and 2 dogs it was the best way for us to get to the lake more a stay for a few days. It's our mobile lake house!
