View Full Version : Tower Up vs Down on the Hoist?

For those who have covered boat hoists, I'm wondering how you guys deal with your towers when on the hoist. Originally, we kept the canopy height low to protect our '14 LSV from the weather, but we ended up having to lower the tower every time we put the boat away, which is frankly a pain. So this year we raised the canopy high enough to get in and out with the tower up, meaning more skiing/surfing time, and an easier 1-man job to head out and back in. Here are pics of our original canopy height (requiring the tower lowering every time) and our new set up.

I suppose he trade-off is ease of use versus better weather protection, but we cover the boat when we're not up here anyway so I'm loving our new set up. What do you guys do?

Tower up and I run the lift up till the bimini almost touches the canopy.

All the way up with tower up, cover on when we are not there , really does not get wet. Only put tower down once when the lake was really high and had to get most out of it

We always leave the tower up on the lift with the cover on. The only time I lowered it was during the flood in early Spring this year so that I could get a few more feet of clearance. Lowering it every time would be work...

I sort of do both. I like the boat to be as high out of the water as possible while we are away during the week and also like to have it covered. I lower the tower and raise the boat to a spot I have marked on the lift cable then use a nylon strap around the lift pipe that runs overhead to hold the tower up so I can then get the cover on. The cover doesn't fit as tight around the tower legs as when the tower is up, but it works fine.
