That other thread started out on one topic and went through 3-4 others. It's high time we devoted a thread strictly to your results with your version of this specific type of gate.

I copied the design (mostly) from page 30 in the Ronix thread. I'm still experimenting with weight and movement but love the results so far. In the pics below I have both rear 750's full, the 400 center full and my mini-IBS of about 350 full. The wake plate is all the way down although I did change it to half way up when I rode. With it all the way up the wave is close to a kid's shoulder and kind of intimidating. The pic of the gate shows about where I had it positioned at the time of the photos (it would be about the same on the other side for goofy.

Nice job and the wake looks great. I am excited to build one myself. Thanks for the photos.

I tested a bunch of designs and handles and the Seastow was my favorite. Stainless springs, plastic handle, smaller diameter and very good holding power. Here is where I landed and have been using this summer: 6x9 plate at 100 degrees.

My write up from earlier today. No action shots but will have next weekend.

It feels like I have a new boat with the new Suck Gate in play!!

Wow is all I can say. I spent most of the week on family vacation being pulled by a Master Craft X30 surf machine (awesome). I knew I was going to have a really hard time going back to reality with the '07 XLV. Sure enough everyone that surfed the X30 was not too happy. We have a good wave but not compared to an X30. I attached the Suck Gate later that day with no one in the boat and by magic (or physics if you believe in that kind of thing) we got a new surf boat!! One of my kids said it is "cheating" it is so easy to surf now.

I stuck the front suction cup directly under the cleat as low as it could go (middle level). Sitting at rest with a bit of list on surf side it was about half way out of the water but I can't go much lower and that spot worked. I can't go any further back because of the curve to the transom. Once under way the whole gate was submerged.

This gate has a 60* slant. 7" wide at the bottom, 6" wide at the top by 9" high. Other than changing from wood to HDPE I have absolutely no plans to change the design or angle because it worked so perfectly. If someone comes out with better numbers I will change to that.

First day was with 7 people in the boat, 3 regular sized adults and 4 adult sized teenagers but all really thin. Rear bags about 50% non surf 60% surf front bag empty, wake plate neutral. No people in the bow. Speed 12.5 MPH. I don't know if my speedo is correct or not.

Second day was with 4 people, 2 regular sized humans and 2 of the skinny teenagers. Rear bags about 70% non surf 80% surf, front bag 50%, wake plate neutral. No people in the bow. Speed 12.5 MPH.

I would say the tip of my board is about 8 feet back from the swim platform with control and can recover much better.

Besides the wave the best part was time to start (didn't have to fill bags fully) and time to switch from goofy to normal, about two minutes instead of 15-20 minutes. We did a fill on one side and drain on the other while I moved the gate, done!

Clipped an aluminum carabiner to the cleat with para cord to the gate but never had to use it. That gate stuck for two days like it was glued on and no problems steering.

If you haven't made one yet, do it NOW!

Some of you have way more time than I do. Question, I have a Wakeland surf system on my SA, would I benefit from adding a suck gate in addition to the surf system? Issue I am trying to fix right now is lack of push.

Minus all of the clear coat I built this in about 40 minutes. I am the slow one on the forum from what I can tell.

My suckgate collapsed so it is at 45 degrees now but the wave has been vastly improved with it this way. Can someone that has the 90/45 degree design post some findings on both.

My setup:

2014 Mojo
900 lb lockers
500 lb Center tank
650 lb IBS
Manual Flow - not deployed
2069 Prop
Suckgate - 45 degrees, 8 x 12

My findings:

hasn't fell off once in 10 hours of surfing
tried filling my 900lb bags about 2/3 full(same in both sides) this weekend and with the wake plate up fully my wife said it's the best push(goofy) we've had. This allowed an easy transition from goofy to regular.
didn't play with the trim much, but while my wife was surfing, I put it all the way down and the wave lengthened but lost all the push. Need to find the sweet spot with the trim.

I started with the aluminum cups, but recently switched to Brain's design since it's all stainless. Very happy. My gate is about 1/2 submerged when at rest. I want to try it completely submerged under the second lip on my hull, but I can't seem to get enough leverage to make the cups stick that far down. It's hard to reach from inside the boat.

The pic below is all ballast full (900s in the back, center & IBS). 10.7 mph with the wakeplate 3/4 up.

i finally built mine. it was based on "5.0" post and with 60 degree angle.
I used HDPE board instead and I'm going to test it this weekend.

this is a great site and community. everyone here helps each other and the posts are usually very educational.
at lest for me.

i talked with wakemakers today and the guy suggested that I should buy the 750# bag for left and right. he said it would fit better my boat. i see some of you use the 1,100# bag on each side.
Will they fit a 2007 Moomba LSV? i currently have stock bags which i think is 3 bags of 400# fly-high

Here is mine, more like a 60 or 70 degree angle and 9" tapering down to 6" and 12" wide. I think in the picture we had both rear 1100's about half full, 6 people in the boat and 600-700 up front. It seemed like adding more weight past that didn't do that much for the wave but burned about twice as much gas. We also still bias the weight a little to the surf side.

I have a pair of 750's in the rear lockers. I also have a small IBS up front that gives about another 300 up there. Make a fantastic wave with the suk gate. If you go 1100's you will need to reinforce the walls in your rear lockers. With the 750's there is virtually no bulge. Some folks argue for running all the weight you can get. I prefer to weight only as much as I have to in order to get a great wave. I do usually have 5-7 people in the boat though so that might make a difference to you.

I had 1100s on my 2010 LSV. I bought their reinforcement kits and all I can say is you can always fill your 1100s to 750, but you can't fill your 750s to 1100

Started with 750's and ended up upgrading to 1100 on surf side(works cuz we don't switch sides). This was all pre suck gate tho. If it was me, I,d go bigger and hope you don't need it. Buy an IBS also and/or bags to put up front My LSV likes the bow weight. When we only have 3 in the boat, I fill 750 IBS and an additional 400 bag in bow. Good luck. I am not sure if hull on your LSV is same as mine, but we now have an awesome wave.

SP8,
Can you please share what your ballast set up is, people location and location of SG? I have same splash stickers so was particularly interested in your set up but may be helpful for all. Did you remove any portion of stickers or does it still stay on top of stickers? I'm struggling with push with my SG. It is at very bottom of hull. Would like to move up but having trouble with it staying b/c of stickers.

Thanks.

You can see it is on splash graphics and has been solid for three trips out. Need to make sure it is all graphics or all boat. First time cup was over boat and graphics and didn't stick. That spot in the pic has held for probably 8 hrs of surfing now. As far as ballast goes, we fill surf side 1100 and goofy side 750. I fill the floor and the IBS 750 as much as possible. If we have a lot of bodies, we put two in bow also. If only three out, I sometime fill a manual bag for bow, but didn't yesterday and it was still ok. As far as placement in boat, it's spread with a little bias to surf side. Speed has been 10.7 for me. Kids like 11mph. Wake plate is big variable. At 1/4 up the wave is huge. Kids like it(college age kids). At 1/2 it goods all around at 11 mph. As it get further down, wave lengthens. We have settle with it at about60% down. I'll also put in a pic from a few weeks ago. Gate was way higher and further back. Might have been better wave but had a giant rooster tail splash. In this pic I did remove an inch or two of graphics.

Here's my version. Placed it as far back as I could go just under the rub rail. Had both rear 750s and center 400 full at about 11 mph with the wake plate about half. Wave was much taller with good push and a good bit longer (could ride at least 2 board lengths further back than before) but still seemed to wash out at the top of the wave at times. Still working on dialing it in but definitely feel like I need more weight in the front (only had a couple folks up front). Also getting a lot of water in the bilge probably from under the rub rail.

Looks good. Be careful where you store it. Mine ran some rusty water (probably from the spring) onto my floor. Have to figure out a way to replace the spring with a stainless one.

I painted my springs. When I am done I empty the cups and spray silicone inside. I would use WD-40 but not sure what it would do to the rubber. Working so far.

it worked nice. it's clear i need more weight. I'm still deciding what ballast to go, but I'm very inclined to get two 1,100 one for each rear locker, and re-inforce walls, and get new fittings and hose, dang it!!!!

did you upgrade to Tsunami pump? the stock pump takes forever to fill stock 400 ballast. I can't imagine two 1,000 (even if you don't fill all the way)
was it difficult to install? it almost looks like its a plug-n-play, no?

last (and silly) question:
how do you post bigger picture on this forum as opposed to thumbnails links?

Until you can upgrade you need more people maybe. I ripped out 95% of my old system and replaced with Wake Makers gear. Three parallel of everything from through hull fittings, pumps, switches, hoses and bags. It is a good winter project. You can find used bags a good bit but not so much on the pumps. Give them a call and they can help with what to get and budget. Some people here have a coupon code that can be sent to you.

Well I decided to join the cult of "suck gate"
With the help of "tubby" another forum member we made one yesterday.

Ran both 900s full, hard tank, 500lbs full, manual flow stowed, and wake plate up. (Didn't help deployed in any of the 3 slots). Only 2 adults in the boat when trying to dial in the wave and just a driver when surfing. The gate seemed to like all the way to the rear for goofy and regular it was just a touch more forward. We are both goofy surfers so I can't speak for how the regular would have performed. The goofy wave was the best height, length, and push I've ever had behind this boat.

My previous setup was 1300 surf side, 300-400 non surf side, hard tank and IBS full, flow deployed to 2/3

I upgraded to the autoflow 2.0 and was initially dissapointed in the wave, then realized the boat loves weight, like 2x1100 and center tank and ibs full and 7-8 adults kinda weight.
Then I borrowed "13mobiuslsv" suck gate yesterday. The boat could achieve a "weighted wake" with only 2 adults and full ballast. Very happy with how it worked and will be making my own for surfing on lighter days.

Are you burping the air out of your suction cups as you're attaching it onto the boat (especially when done underwater)? Do you have decals on your boat that are under the cups?

What model of suction handle are you using? I've never had mine come off. Surfed for many hours, many days with mine. (harbor freight handle)

Didn't "burp" the air out, I will try that. The Supra has graphics, and not sure on the model. It is the stainless one that was posted in a link in the other forum. I will try burping and see if that helps.

What did you think of the ride?

Rides ok. Needs more push and I need more skill. This is stock ballast. Planning on upgrading rears to 750s and adding an IBS

I have a 2010 LSV that I installed the manual flow on. I made a suck gate and it works excellent. Still a pain to tote it around tho. IMO the flow was a complete waste of money. I've been thinking of trying to add some more surface to the manual flow to see if it would work better. Thinkin of using some pieces of cutting board. Not a bunch bigger. Still want the flow to fold up like it normally should. My brother has a mondo with manual flow and it is 10 time better than mine. We both have 750's in the back. He has IBS and myself I fill one of my old 400's in the bow with a tsunami. Anyways what do you guys think about adding a little more surface to the flow?

Man I'm so right there with you!!! Actually went out today and said I was gonna give Manual flow another chance. Wave was good without full list, but nothing like my $30 suck gate I made. So frustrated that I spent $1100 on Manual flow and it seriously don't give much improvement and still can't go full on both sacks otherwise it's complete wash. Mondo and Mojo have the flow that goes out 90 degrees - more of the delta style, where as LSV goes 190 degrees or more. Kinda silly to go under boat in prop wash.

That would equal no suck gate and no surfable side , wakeboard wake. To surf you must create the delayed convergence.

I placed it at the lowest point on the hull that I could. I believe it was as far aft as possible as well, maybe a few inches from the very back. I can mount it and take a picture on Tuesday when I get back in town.

I may have some FlyHigh 750s to sell you. I get 1100s this week.
My 750s are appx. 2 years old. Great shape. Nothing wrong with them, just looking for 1100s and should have purchased them originally.

Some other company posted a thread in the Supra site under Wake Surfing. Same deal as this.
This appears to have more of an angle. The company on the Supra site was more 90'.

750s will definitely fit - I have 900s in my '13 OBV :)

I have 750's in my 2009 OBV. Fit like a glove, but I wish they were taller and about 6" shorter.

I've tried the 1100's and went back to the 750's.

If you're equally weighting the boat, then the before and after you're posting aren't really relevant. I think it'd be a better comparison to show a picture of the boat setup with a listed setup vs. a suck gate setup. because no one is going to run equal weight without a surf device and expect it to surf well.

These pics are with it listed (100% surf side, 50% off side) with and without a surf gate. My wave washes out without the gate. I could probably get a better wave by dropping my off side to 0% but the $40 surfgate makes for a decent wave.

Wow, then that's a dramatic difference. Well done.

That is great! I love how you can adjust the angle of the gate. I might have to do a version 2.0 and incorporate this. I think my angle (about 80 degrees) might be too much and for sure causes a lot of spray.

Plastidip might be better as it is flexible.

The one I made and use on my buddy's LSV, is set to 90°, 10"x10" blade and we sit it as far back as we can, so that the blade is under the first letter closest to the front of the boat.
