I have a 2000 Outback DD with tower that I am trying to wake surf behind. My set-up so far has been a wake-setter wake plate and 2 250lb sacs and people for ballast. I just can't get a clean wave with any wall or push to it. Possible problems:

1. Not enough ballast - seems most guys are using 1500-2000 lbs of ballast, maybe I need a lot more but seems a little unsafe (says my wife) as is exceeds the boat's limit before adding passengers.
2. Surf plate install - maybe this plate just doesnt work on this boat. I went this direction because I was under the impression that by using a wake plate I could runs less ballast and use much less weight. I could be wrong. Maybe try different style like the Ronix triangle looking thing that velcros to the side of the boat.
3. Swim platform - has lip on it that may be messing up the wake too. I could fill in with wood, foam etc but not sure thats my main problem.
4. Surf board - Im 6' 190 riding a 5 foot inland surfer tako. maybe need a bigger thicker board?

any suggestions are appreciated! I am determined

I have a 2007 Outback DD and I have two 750 sacs in a "L" shape on surf side. One along the doghouse and the other where the rear seat usually goes. I also have a 400 on the non surf side and a ghetto gate (similar to what you have). Have no problems surfing it. The sweet spot is pretty close to the boat, there is no way around this with a DD.

I have a 2003 outback dd I have a surf gate for each side of the swim platform, I have an 800lb bag under the back seat 375ld bag in the trunk and 375lb bag in the bow. At 9.3 mph it puts out a really nice surf wave.

I have a 03 outback dd just built a suck gate for it and ride with 500 under back seat and 1000 between rear seat and engine it is decent for surfing pockets probly 1-3 board lengths of the swim grid had to resilicone my rub rail though cause I was taking water in through it no issues now though

Thanks for input guys. Got it going this weekend with a 900lb sac in the back with suck gate and 3 adults on surf corner...... its all about the weight. Now just gotta fine tune it.

Why dont you remove the swim platform as a test and see if it effects the wave size and shape. Should be simple enough to do. If it changes anything then worry about modifying or replacing the platform.

2462724626We have 4 - 400's and a 350 on the rear seat, works well - you just have to be careful when you stop as the transom is only about 6" out of the water. I built a "suck gate" last night and will see if it makes a difference next weekend.

I have a 97 outback dd. Removed the rear seats and used an older fat seat so 500 in the rear and maybe 300 on surf side. I just use the main seat and which ever arm for the side the rider is on. And a 200# bag in the bow. Riders sit on the surf side. Had a hard time overcoming my 260# in the drivers seat. Speed set at 10 mph with about 2100 rpms. Nice wave. Steep face with no wash but not long. Trying to figure out how to get my pocket longer without dipping my bow too far. The bow already sits low on these boats. Btw i had a buddy ride mine this weekend and said the wave was alot bigger then my other buddies 2002 supra launch:)
