As of 07/13/2006 the Wego Kite Tube has been recalled. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has told the parent company Sportsstuff to pull these off the market and recall all the ones out there.

For any of those who want to return it call 866-831-5524.

After watching these things in operation, I didn't think they would be around long.

After watching some of the videos of people crashing off these things its no wonder. Its a cool concept but man without the right saftety precautions its a death trap.

I heard that it's been banned in two of our provinces up here in Canada already. Looks like fun though...

go to www.youtube.com search for kite tube videos ... watch some of the crashes.. pretty much says it all... Its like the old saying falling doesnt hurt its hitting the ground (in this case water) that hurts!!

I think that under the right curcumstances it might be relatively safe. Twenty mph into a twenty mph headwind would get you up there with only a twenty mph ground speed. Now doing 40 mph over the water 20 feet up...that's a big fall. I'm just too old for that sh*&#.

Glad to hear that Sportstuff is taking care of this problem. I have friends that were going to be selling their's as the felt it was too dangerous.

If they can implement some type of change that prevents the tube from going more than 2 meters off the water that would probably clear the problem for the most part.. The other half of it is of course that people are driving 15-25 mph faster than instructions recommend.
