I missed my 20hr service appointment, and the dealer doesn't have another appt. until late Aug. What can I do to keep everything ok until then?

P.S.- My service was going to cost 400.00... Is that about right, I thought it was an oil change and carb adj.???

Just had mine done and it was $220.00 with a $50.00 discount since I bought the boat there.

$400.00 sounds high!

But missing the service... is that bad? I have checked the oil and it is still clean.

Jrich,

Its very important to at very least change the oil. when it comes with the initial oil it has a detergent in it that cleans any of the dirt and debrese from the manufacturing process out of your engine.

As for 400.00 that is rediculous.. As you may have read I am still feeling burned for having to spend 300.00 on mine. Who is the dealer that is charging 400.00 for teh 20 hr service.

It is worth getting the boat checked over however an oil change should cost no more than 150. maximum so what is the other 250.00 for.

As far as Im concerned some dealers take advantage of new boat owners and the fear that something could be wrong with the boat that you just dropped a hugs chunk of change on. As you will see from looking around the board not every dealer will treat you this way. If your dealer insists on gouging you then find another place to get it serviced that services or even sells inboard boats.

let us know how it turns out for you

Good Luck!!

Jay

Update!!
I called my dealer here in CA and he said the service is now only 350.00 which includes
1. Oil change Filter
2. Fuel Filter
3. Tranny Fluid Change
4. A carb adjustment that I had to request.
5. Check bolts and clamps for tightness

That's it... 350.00 seems like a lot of money for 40.00 worth of parts.
So I told him that I missed the appointment for 20hrs, and he said as long as the oil is clean then I'm good until 40-50hrs. Go figure?

My dealer thought it was crazy to have a boat for 20hrs and spend $400.00 on the service. He charged me $100.00 which included the oil change and the other related items.

That 20 hour should also include checking the alignment of the shaft as well. They need to make sure the motor hasn't shifted any on the mounts as they settle in and thrown the alignment off.
