So my wife had the boat with her friends without me for two days and when I show up I am greeted with the picture below. Of course no one knows anything, but it looks like the female part on the swivel piece is stripped. This is where the screw that attaches the rack screws into the swivel piece. Any ideas on how to fix this? Is a helicoil, which I know nothing about, the preferred way to fix this?

Not sure about that part, mine did this on the way to the lake this weekend.

Lost the retaining pin and broke the spring. This was the start of the trouble as I was feeling a vibration off and on while towing from Columbus, OH to Norris Lake. I even stopped twice to look at the drivers side tire but visual inspection, air pressure and temp of tire all looked good. Till I went to fill up the truck in TN and I found this.

Glad someone was watching over me and I didn't have a blow out on I75. Waiting on a call from my dealer about the parts for the rack.

Thinking a new 16 or 17 with a 5 year warranty will fix everything.

I bet a local machine shop could fix that for less than $100.

I lost the retaining pin on my board rack two weeks ago. Ask your dealer if still under warranty.

Patrick, I can't see any of your attachments, not sure if it is a problem with my account or yours.

I was thinking machine shop as an option as well.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Warranty expired in March 16 when boat hit 2 years old. The pin and spring has been ordered and should arrive next week. The dealer is asking for some of the cost to be covered. I'm more pissed about the tire than the pin. Boatmate wants me to check a few things.

I put some JB Weld on the threads, tapped it to 10X1.5 and bolted everything together, seems pretty solid. Will report back after a weekend on the boat. If that doesn't work it's off to the machine shop.

So far so good. Spent 5 hours driving around looking at lake houses with boards in the rack and it looks like it is holding very well.

A Helicoil would be your best option from what I can see. If you are not familiar, it is a coiled piece of metal with internal and external threads. You drill the hole out a little larger, thread to the size of the Helicoil (not a standard thread) then use the insert tool to thread it in. It wont come out, the threads will be stronger than the original. Should be cheap enough to do at a machine shop. It wouldnt be 30 minutes of work. I wouldnt trust JB Weld though many do. And the stainless bolt, well they are not the strongest either. It is not a grade 8. Though a grade 8 would rust. It is common practice to use helicoils in aluminum parts just for the strength of the threads.

Here is a YT video of how they are installed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rtiFBC0wms

I was going to link the manufacturers video but it was too long.

I'm gonna monitor it and if it fails, I'll try the helicoil option.

Another question, since we were jetting around looking at lake houses yesterday, we were doing 25 -30 MPH regularly with the boards in the racks and I got to thinking, "Am I supposed to be going that fast with boards in my racks for extended periods of time." That seems like a like lot of stress on those racks, particularly the swivel ones. So assuming no defects in the swivel racks, are there any concerns about running around at top speeds with boards in the racks?
