Protecting the bow of boat while towing

Has anyone ever used a product like "temporary carpet shield film" while trailering to protect the bow of the boat. It is basically a self adhesive plastic wrap looking stuff from the home depot. Concerned it might leave residue on the gel coat or melt on the boat from the heat.
