For our first weekend with this boat (any any inboard, for that matter) and being first-timers at surfing, we had our expectations fairly low and were out just to see what we could do.
Boat was fairly light for my attempt. Stock hard ballast was full (400#?), adult driver, and 3 kiddos on the rear bench (probably another 400#). I stayed on the starboard side, which we realized tended to be the softer side. I got a little push going, but not enough to let go of the rope.
When my son went out, now we had an extra adult on the port side stern. That gave us the wake in the photo and enough push so my son could drop the rope and surf for a few minutes! Needless to say, he was pretty pumped, and now wants to get the boat loaded up. ;)
We have relatives coming tomorrow, so we'll have to fill the boat up and see what we can come up with. We'll play musical chairs with the "weight" to see what the sweet spots are for adding ballast bags. We use our boat just as much for slalom, so we need the floor locker space and other storage, so we might be a bit more dependent on people weight.
Are we doing OK with this board? it's just the CWB Ride that came with a free rope. Seemed like a decent, cheap way to try the sport. I tried it first without the fins and found it had plenty of play for me, but am not sure if it can accelerate enough for me, or if I just need to focus on growing the wake? I've been wakeboarding since the Hyperlite Skurfer came out, so I'm fairly comfortable on a board (though still not an advanced boarder).
