View Full Version : Coolers for new Moomba??

I currently have a 2015 Bryant 233X but looking at upgrading to a new Moomba this season. My family is looking to start surfing. We went and looked at Supras and Moombas last week and noticed that there is not a place for the cooler to go under the seat. Ours is under the back middle bench seat. What does everyone do for their cooler? Do you just put one in the floor over to the side or is there a special made cooler that fits under the seat? Might just be one of the things we have to deal with on a new boat. Thanks for the input.

We put ours under the front bow cushion. Keeps it out of the sun and out of the way.

We have the small AO cooler that came with the boat under the starboard rear seat. Then have a big AO cooler that usually goes on top of a seat or the floor somewhere. On party days I have actually put an igloo cooler strapped to the swim platform.

Yeah we are gonna upgrade the cooler size this year ... not to jack a thread but what are you guys using? I want something that is soft but that holds ice for a long time. The AO one is garbage IMO. It cracked and leaked within the first year

Take a look at the soft sided RTiC coolers. Very similar to the soft side Yeti at half the price.

Really I bought the large ao carbon cooler and I love it. I've easily had 3 cases of beer and 20lbs of ice in it. I'm a huge fan.

Nice thanks for the link ... these look like just what we need

@newguy - yeah our moomba AO cooler didn't even last a full season. cracked on the inside and leaked everywhere.

My AO coolers are running strong, no leaks. Although on my large AO it seems trying to zip up a bunch of beer and ice maybe stretched it out a little along the seams but still no issue.

AO is a great company to deal with in my experience. They will replace your liner and/or zipper for free if it's within a year old - my liner had also cracked in several places. They will replace it with a new type of liner that looks like it may be better.

If it's over a year old, it only costs $20 to get it replaced. Check out their site. I had mine shipped to Cali and back to me with a new liner within about 4 weeks.

Damn I tossed mine over the winter when cleaning out the garage. Had no idea they would swap.

Roto mold igloos for 199 at SAMs clubs

Those igloo coolers did pretty well in a 5 day challenge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu-V0ZqfYHg.

I still have my leaking AO Moomba cooler, less than one year old. I just sent them an email, I'll report back how they respond.

We use 1 or 2 28 qt. Coleman coolers (depending on crew size). Two of them can fit end to end under the seats on either side of the boat (we usually put them on the surf side for extra weight). They're cheap, work well and hold up... I'm usually dumping out ice at the end of a 90 degree day on the water. It's easier then lifting one big cooler up into the boat.

The can be found for less $, think I paid ~$20 for mine.

Here's what I got back from AO Coolers. I'll be sending my cooler back in a few weeks as I am out of town right now, and report back:

Hi Gil,

Your cooler is covered under our limited lifetime warranty. Please send the cooler back to us with a note that includes your name, contact info, and return address. You do not need to include the $12 because the cooler is within a year, just let us know that it is leaking and 11 months old. I have included warranty information in this email as well.

Thank you,
Alyssa

WARRANTY
AO Coolers offers a Limited-Lifetime Warranty on the Liners and Top Zipper of our
coolers. We are happy to repair and return your cooler if it meets the following criteria:

* Clean: We should be willing to touch your cooler without having to wear gloves
* Dry: Coolers that are shipped wet arrive moldy and delay the process
* Exterior has no major wear and tear (Based on our discretion)

Our Guarantee Covers:
* The Liner: if the cooler leaks because of manufacture defect, or normal use we will repair the liner.
Please note that coolers damaged by crushed cans, bottle caps, animals, dry ice, glass, or other uses that are not
considered normal wear and tear are not covered by our warranty. We will fix your cooler but the
fee will be $25.00. Please see Cooler Repair Instructions below and follow those including
the $25.00 fee instead of the $12.00 fee.
* The Main Zipper: This is the zipper on the top of the cooler, we do not cover the side pocket zippers.
We will repair the main top zipper of the cooler.

** Make sure coolers are dry and clean before returning them to us. If they arrive moldy
or filthy we will not repair the coolers. Warranty expires once the exterior of the cooler
becomes too weak to sew in a new liner or zipper and is based on our discretion.
If we are unable to repair your cooler we will offer you a discount on a new cooler.
(See Cooler Replacement)

COOLER REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS:
If you are returning your cooler you must include $12.00 (per cooler) if the cooler is over
a year old. We use the honor-system, so we'll take your word for it either way. So, if
you bought your cooler less than a year ago, do not send $12.00 dollars (but please
tell us that the cooler is less than a year old) But, if your cooler is more than a year
old, attach $12.00 to cover shipping. Remember it's $12.00 per cooler you send
back. Please note that repairs will take about 4-5 weeks.
* Make sure cooler meets our repair criteria.
* Place $12.00 cash or a check made to AO Coolers inside the cooler.
* Include a note with your name, return address, and phone number and
reason for return (liner or zipper)
* Send the cooler to:

Haven't got my Moomba cooler back yet, but I got a Gander Mountain Permachill softside cooler for $73 in the meantime, and I was really impressed with it. I've never come back with ice in my Moomba cooler and my Permachill had about half the ice left in it on Saturday afternoon after a day out. For those of you that don't have to have that Yeti name on their cooler, this is a pretty good option.

Also Walmart has been carrying the Ozark Trail 32 oz and 20 oz Yeti knockoffs for 10 and 8 bucks and they work great, I tested them against my neighbors Yetis and they had the exact same performance.

Good friend of mine found out I didn't have a cooler for my boat and went out of his way to get me one. He works for the local brewery and they had them printed with their logo. This cooler is made by Barebones and I've yet to really try it out. Coming from an AO cooler this was seems to have a better structure to it, now to see how it holds ice.

Got my Moomba cooler back from AO. I can't remember exactly what my old one looked like but it seems like they just sent me a new Moomba cooler rather than replace the lining. It seems like it is this model

https://www.aocoolers.com/24-pack-canvas-cooler-black-55.html

which is not what mine originally was.

Thumbs up from me to AO for great customer service.

Slightly off topic but wife's friend turned us on to these Wally Ozark Trail tumblers that are comparable to the Yeti ones for 1/4 the price. I've had mine for 2 days now and I really like it. She said they can't keep them in stock b/c people have figured out they are so good.

Ha. Can't believe I missed that. I would never spend $40 on a cup but for $10 and stainless steel so it should last many years I'm sold.

I bought a couple of the large and small ones but can't seem to find the coozies. I hear they work great.

Continued Hi-Jack,
My wife bought me the Yeti Koozie, Great for the Driver! fits in the Cup holder.
This is the Walmart one on line, I would just have done this one for less than half!

I can't bring myself to pay 20 bucks when they are 8 bucks at Walmart, if you can find them. I continue to search.

Got my yeti can coozie as a gift. Totally blown away by how cold it keeps my beer. Used more for when fishing than running the play boat.

We bought the RTIC brand 30 oz stainless steel tumblers and they work great. Not as cheap as the walmart one but cheaper than the yeti.

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to the whole forum and boat community (so please don't shame me). Recently, I purchased a used 2003 Moomba Outback and love it! I can't stay off the water. I've been looking for a good cooler to keep my beer cold while me and the wife are out on the water. A buddy of mine recommended a Yeti, but I'm not sure that that specific price range is for me. Any recommendations on a good solid cooler for a decent price? Or is the price of a Yeti really worth it? Thank you in advance for the helping out a first timer.

If you must have a solid cooler then I would recommend RTIC. It's literally 1/2 the cost of yeti's. They are the same exact thing. Anyone who tells you otherwise is blowing smoke up your ass.

RTIC coolers are on sale now.
Had wife not lost the receipt for the Yeti45 (xmas gift), it would have went back and purchased a RTIC45. Just purchased a Tan20 and a Softside30.

Keep checking their site, seems inventory is up and down. Early this week a Soft30 was sold out.

Thanks guys, huge help. I think I'm settled on the RTIC because of the cost. I actually found a really helpful article https://icecoldcooler.com/ that said the same thing as you guys that RTIC coolers were the best option when considering price. Thanks again.

We just use two of these 28 Quart Coleman Coolers, they fit under the seats in the mojo... I can get them side by side on the port side behind the batteries. Cheap and functional. $20 at Walmart and other places...
