Just received my Domed Numbers and trying to find best placement. My question is do the numbers need to be below the rub rail? Is it legal requirement or just a standard. My Mondo has 8" from start of where I want to place numbers above rail. I have looked through forums and all pics are numbers below rail. Opinions please.

Each state will have a requirement to where they are placed and size. I think there is good leeway to where they can be placed as the rules applies to most every boat. You can check the state rules or look to see where everyone is putting theirs. I would think 8" from the nose would work fine.

Crane Man – Illinois law seems to give a boat owner some leeway with respect to the placement of boat registration numbers. Here is the text from 625 ILCS 45/3-3, Chapter 95 1/2, paragraph 313-3. - Deerfield

Sec. 3-3. Identification number display.

A. The owner shall paint on or attach to both sides of the bow (front) of a watercraft the identification number, which shall be of block characters at least 3 inches in height. The figures shall read from left to right, be of contrasting color to their background, and be maintained in a legible condition. No other number shall be displayed on the bow of the boat. In affixing the number to the boat, a space or a hyphen shall be provided between the IL and the number and another space or hyphen between the number and the letters which follow. On vessels of unconventional design or constructed so that it is impractical or impossible to display identification numbers in a prominent position on the forward half of their hulls or permanent substructures, numbers may be displayed in brackets or fixtures firmly attached to the vessel. Exact positioning of the numbers in brackets or protruding fixtures shall be discretionary with vessel owners, providing the numbers are placed on the forward half of the vessel and meet the standard requirements for legibility, size, style and contrast with the background.

B. A watercraft already covered by a number in full force and effect which has been awarded to it pursuant to Federal law is exempt from number display as prescribed by this Section.

C. All non-powered watercraft are exempt from number display as prescribed by this Section.

Thank you both for your response. I just put the numbers on. I really over did the prep but it is hard to do anything to a boat I never thought I could get.

The domed website linked above, to the left of the page is phone cases. Great prices and a ton of options. Random buy with everybody talking about their domed numbers.

That looks excellent Broke! Here in UT I'm pretty sure I would get bothered for not having enough contrast between the colors. I'm good for sure this year with black on white. If this wasn't a demo boat I would be all over them numbers!

Law enforcement will determine if it contrasts enough and whether the numbers are a 7 or a 1 as they are the only one that uses them.

Yeah, I know everyone here likes that font but I've always thought it looked goofy with all those little tails. I couldn't honestly tell if those are a 1 or 7, I was guessing 1. I think it works for "MOOMBA" because only the B has the little tail.

Now I'm curious, are the 7's or 1's?

It's 7's for sure. I don't like the way the 7's look though
