Started off the day with just me and the wife. Everyone we invited just didn't come through. No worries though. We were all set to have a fun day with 83 degree temps.

Then found a friend in his new SA450. Sweet boat for sure.

Then we Found lots of friends. Skiers choice was well represented. Supra SE450, Supra SA450, Moomba XLV, and (just out of the frame of the pic) a Supra Sunsport 21v.

That has to be Tylers (AKA Diggs) SA! I'm pretty sure that's a little yellow stripe coming out of the water and the brown Gator interior. Good god that thing is gorgeous!

Glad to see your new SA got out on the water with the family and finally put away the snow skis :) My Craz sat all weekend with the breeze forecast and started to finish my basement. My six year project finally got started, LOL.

Knocked the dust off of the boat yesterday in the Willamette River. First trip out this year. Moomba was WELL represented. Water was a nipply 58 degrees in the water. Coaxed the teenagers in for some tube stuff otherwise ate, drank, and were merry. Of course, also had to knock the dust off the sound system. Mission accomplished!

4 saws running all day, my dad in the tractor moving non stop and you can barely tell we touched it. Just one day in and the amount of firewood we will have is enough for years to come...just have to find time to split it.

Our tractor is a Massey Ferguson, it's an early 90's 2wd that won't die. It's a 45horse 3 cylinder. Perfect for the auger building fences and the box blade for dirt work.
The chainsaw... lol it's my dad's old Poulan 250 2 stroke from the '70's. It's been rebuilt countless times. My dad is the cheapest man alive. It's a 16" bar and works like a champ. As far as newer equipment, I dunno what to even recommend. They just do t build stuff like they used to.

We have a collection of Stihl saws. A few newer and a couple that are getting up there in age but are workhorses.

From smallest to largest-
Stihl 026 - Little dude is an amazing saw. It's older but my fav to work with. Little powerhouse, lightweight, I can climb trees with it, fling it around, it's great.
Stihl MS211 - It wants to be the 026, but it just can't match it.
Stihl 036 - Using a 20" bar, beast saw. Heavy, set it on the tree and it just eats it's way thru
Stihl MS251 - Lighter than the 036 and 271, anti vibration seems to be pretty solid
Stihl MS271 - More grunt than the 251, heavier, bigger bar.
Stihl HT131 - Big bad Pole Saw, this thing is a monster to handle all day. Using the harness with it is the only way to go if you want to be able o put in a full day.

The 026 and 036 are the older saws.

As far as the tractor, my dad just upgraded what he is working with. And just in time for needing it! New rig is a Deere 5085M. This thing gets after it! He traded in his Kubota, the additional HP and PTO speed is unreal! It pulled trees that would have had the Kubota stuck in place.

Yeah the cold and rain wont let go in C O. I am so itching to get out on the water. I did the entire boat with all 4 boat bling products (so easy BTW), so its protected and ready. Need to have the full 20 hours in before Mile High Meet and Greet in Sugar City and Lake Meredith, June 4th. Lake Meredith is the warmest in CO. Need to get my 20 hours service done while I'm down close to ROMOBOCO, to save me a 3 hour trip!

Gonna try and sneak in a short trip Friday to dial my wave in if I have time. To fully prepare I decided to finally remedy my chrome cans by adding a nice layer of plastic dip along with hitting the grills with some boat matching neon green/black splatter. I'll have them mounted tomorrow once cured but they turned out pretty cool for a $10 projecthttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160504/dc11c1cf7bf8edbc64b3098580922be7.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160504/f951c455f5d2f6ab1d46ae788598b6cc.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160504/bfd86558de86824722ad49281734239b.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160504/8340aa8adf77651f5b396c96e37e1d59.jpg

Nick told me just to make sure I got AT LEAST 20 hours and they were happy when I brought it in at 36 for the service. RomoboCo is definitely a haul for sure. Did you check out the boat care products they sell? I used to use the boat blog stuff but I love Babes these days. Stuff smells so good! Worth checking out.

Just North of us they recorded 91 mph winds... For all the weather going through I look at the boat on the way out and say "Thank you Boat Bling!" The Craz still needs some love but I would say it looks damn good waiting for us to play.

Thanks, yup we always make a new towel cover each year, keeps scratches off the sun deck from the dog, also makes it less slippery when walking across it.

Oso is a big lab, he's 95lbs but pretty lean from all the swimming. We think he's mixed black and brown because he has some brown highlights you can only see in the sun.

We also keep a towel on the back seat and another on the side seats because when he's tired he will pick a seat and lay down. He's good ballast lol

5% is the only way to go! I needs to be as black as it can! I considered doing 2 layers but didn't want to deal with the issues that sometimes creates down the road.

Shane, a guy up here in Sherman is doing it for me. He did Ash's car a while back and did a great job. He is doing it at almost half of what the guy that did the other 2 boats for me is, and he is doing it all today, whereas in the past the other guy took forever, missed deadlines etc. I'm really hoping he delivers.

Went out on my buddies new MB today. Was my first time riding in it and behind it. Here's my thoughts....
Boat itself is beautiful. Fit & finish is awesome. Boat rides super smooth compared to my little mondo. Boat feels like it's 5' bigger then my little mondo. Takes waves like a champ and does not rattle one bit. Made me realize how rough my boat rides and how much it rattles. Never really thought anything of it until I heard a boat not rattle LOL.

As far as the wave I was not impressed at all & very disappointed to say the least. For a boat with 5200lbs ballast I thought it would be very simple to dial in. Boy was I wrong. We could not get a decent wave for the life of us without listing the boat. Once we listed it was great! Other than no push at all. I'm sure there was something we were doing wrong & I know that boat is a surfing champ but it's going to take awhile to dial that baby in. My little Mondo has a taller wave & has way more push. The GSA has so many options for adjustment it kind of sucks. You would think the dealer (after selling a bunch of these) would know what settings to use & set your boat up accordingly. Maybe that's just asking to much though who knows.

Other than the wave it was an awesome boat! Makes me want to upgrade from my little boat to a bigger Mojo (pending test drive for rattles).

Anyone else have gnarly rattle problems? Seems like everything on my boat is rattling. Boards in the rack, tower, in the gunnel etc etc etc.

P.S I want/need surf pockets on my Bimini. Best invention ever!!!!!!

I almost went with a F22 when I bought my SA. No comparison between those two. As far as your rattles go, go through your entire boat and make sure all bolts are tight, every bolt on the tower etc... my 2006 LSV had very few rattles, mostly from the windshield, nothing from the tower, felt very solid all the time.

MB's do ride better in rough water due to being a deeper V than MOOMBA, noticed it the first ride in my Craz. The thing I hated about my MB is feeling like I was driving a tractor with no power steering. Turning port it was ok but starboard was a fight with thrust rattle to it. I'm amazed how different these 2 brands are and all day would rather drive the Craz. Now my wake on the MB was probably the best out of the box stock wake. I've yet to try the Craz but I'm feeling I have a contender when I loaded it up. Same thing with the surf here in UT. Last years surf event the dealer brought a brand new 23' and everybody reviewed it poorly with the dealer not knowing the surf setup for a good wave. MB was great but I love the Craz and so far zero rattles even going through a meaty double up that will knock your socks off.

I have bungees on the top of my cargo bimini. but we RARELY use the bimini because we like as much sunshine as possible.

Here's an old pic. (I now keep my doomswell in a board sock).
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--Y7hLoAjOr0/VEVgUKtmoII/AAAAAAAAUtc/Pk_-EWa5kRguMMlOS0XZ1AfcKK55jUMXACCo/s800/GOPR1285.JPG

I added bungees to the crossbars so we could carry boards without the cover on. Works great.

But you can add pockets to your bimini if you want. Bungees seem to work good, and I've doubled up a skim style board on top of a surf style board when we had more boards than spots.

Ouch, that's no Bueno. I did notice when I was in the water and wanted to switch boards my buddy who isn't that tall tried to put my board on the Bimini, he couldn't tighten it down all the way and I noticed it sliding backwards in tow so I told him to take it down. When I put it up (I'm taller) I could sinche it down no problem. It wasn't going anywhere.

On my tower (OZ HD) I was going to put the pockets in reversed so the fins don't interfere with the tow rope & do not think I would have an issue of loosing them that way.

You didn't see or hear them fly off?

Nope, was surprising to me. It was My New Idol and my kids P5 Scamp! I believe those things need a pocket at the end to keep them from doing that

A kids board seems really small to be in a Bimini rack. Do you not have anymore room on your board racks?

When I first talked to a Bimini person I wanted a full cover so I wouldn't have sun damage & i figured I would have a sinche sack like one of the drawstring back packs. They said it wouldn't work with what I wanted cause of the solid Bimini on the bottom (makes sense).

I found the owners and they moved them with no hassle. Lucky for them they were easy to find and I didn't have to just untie them.

Took a bunch of go pro pictures but didn't have time to pull them off the memory card. Nolan seemed not to fond of his life jacket but overall I think he did really well for his first time. I think as he grows it will bother him less and less.

Ugh. Wakemakers has the best price on the scamp. But yeah, like the mentioned, the scamp is thin enough to go in a normal board rack.

I can't tell if you did this, but if you get some 3/8 polyethylene tubing you can put that in front of the led's on the cupholders and that will diffuse the light and make it look more uniform and less 'pearl necklace'.

Just messing around or somebody throwing the rope back to you? I will stress to everybody to not throw the rope back to your surfer. I've had close calls with friends that almost lost fingers.

Great looking Mojo Tweak!

I assume you're saying not to throw the rope back to them while they're already surfing.

mmandley
05-13-2016, 10:17 AM
Yes that's what's he's saying.

Also you have to watch the surfer because people not knowing well wrap the slack around fingers and hands when surfing.

That's a huge red flag, this is why we keep our rope only long enough to reach the pocket not the back of the wave.

Also larger diameter ropes make it hard to coil up

I'm still not fully recovered from damaging my Lisfranc ligament in my foot. The Doc said he wants me to have more support on my foot for wakesurfing. So I found a pair of wakeskate shoes and gave that a shot. Better for the foot than being barefoot, and it got me out on the water. (and after my surf session, I realized that I forgot to fill the 400 surfside underseat bag. Whoops!

"dang man, that's a sweet boat. ............. how fast does it go?"

Exactly. It seems that yesterday I was a magnet for either competition or fanboyz...

We started off the day tied up to the end of the dock (with the bow facing out towards the river so it's easy to exit). There was an I/O tied up a about 3 boat lengths down with his stern facing us. I typically have tunes going at the dock, but only loud enough for my own boat and not enough to blast every one out. He chose to turn his up (4 random 6.5" coaxials on the tower). I decided to return the favor and turned mine up for him.... He turned his off. LOL. (Childish? Yeah. Funny? Yeah)

And as we were getting off the freeway, there was a Ridgeline with a mastercraft sticker in front of us. he got in the left lane on the overpass after the exit and slowed way down... and I see him recording a video of our truck and trailer as he slowed enough to let us overtake him on the right. ...I guess we have fans.

Got to play a little. 59 water and 62 air at cherry creek reservoir today. Wave getting a little more dialed in on the craz. Tried autoflow at 80%, rear 1100s full, front combo at 60%, wake plate 50% and speed 10.5 and was pretty decent. Good push and solid ramp. Short day so couldn't play with settings too too much . I am happy with the plasti-dip speaker cans though!

Looks like a good time!

Couple questions for you on your ballast setup.

1) Were you using the IBS? You mentioned the center/front was at 60%. Center tank = 700 and IBS = 500 for a total of 1,200. 60% of 1,200 = 720. Since the center tank fills first, that would only mean 20#'s in the IBS. I think the fill % is just based on fill-times, so the 60% is a rough estimate. Just curious how much was in the IBS, if any.

2) Where did you have the passengers?

3) What prop are you running? Any issues getting on plane?

Thanks!

We had 5 of us total on the trip so the 3 observers just shifted to the favor side which made a huge difference. I am running the 2419 and it's not as bad as I had originally thought but we never got over 11mph aside from when there was no ballast in and we were heading to the dock. And correct that there was very little in the ibs at that point. Last time out i wasnt loving it with front ibs all the way full with this prop combo and this seemed to help. Next trip I am going to fill more and see what happens. I did like the auto flow at 80% more than the factory 50/60 that was set.

Nice job on the new platform. I'd say that if you rounded the edges, it's soften the look of it up a little. I started with a design that looked like yours and then gave it more rounding later and am pretty happy with that.

Thanks Trayson, the picture I posted doesnt do it much justice. I kind of like the look of it the way it is, but the only thing that matters is functionality(?). As you know its easier to start off large and robust than to start off small and try to glue pieces back on later. Once I test it out I might have to modify it.

Trayson here is another pic from a different angle. The way our docks are approved is calculated by how much waterfront you have. They tell you how many square feet of the lake you are allowed to cover from an "aerial view". So that is our walkway to the sun deck. The boat slots will be covered.

Well, I could see you getting some use out of the water to the left of the sun deck walkway. maybe as a swimming hole, a place to "dock" some inflatables for playing in the water. Maybe a spot for some kayaks or something to dock. I like it.

JesseC
05-18-2016, 05:37 PM
Our old dock was similar and we would bungee dock my friends jet ski there between the sea wall and sun deck. We were trying to make the sun deck as large as possible and have a walkway without using up unnecessary footage.

So, I was really hoping to squeak out 1 more surf session for my wife before the AWS Demo Days. We had a broadway show on Tues, so last night was our only shot. I got a couple friends that were stoked to get out on the boat.

Against my better judgment, I pressed on despite it being windy in at home and the forecast calling for 10 to 15mph winds. I didn’t want to disappoint my friends. There was enough wind at Marine park that the boat actually turned towards the PORT side in reverse. WTF?!? Shortly after launching there were white caps on the river.

We decided to head through the no wake zone by Hayden Island on the South side of the Columbia River. There were plenty of swells and even white caps in the no wake zone. Towards the end of the no wake zone on the West where the slough starts, the swells were getting big, easily 3+ feet. And I’m stuck in a no wake zone with the wind blowing straight at us and the waves heading straight at us. It got bad enough that while at idle, the bow dipped so much that I took water over the nose a few different times. It was actually a bit scary to be honest. My face was soaked and it was white knuckle for sure. I’ve never been in conditions quite like that.

We finally got out of the no wake and I was able to power up and get that bow rise. Then we got to the side where it was a touch more protected from the wind and chilled for a bit. We thought about pressing on around Kelly point to the mouth of the Willamette River because we’ve found that that area is often protected when the rest of the river is absolute crap. But honestly, I’d had enough. We turned around and with the wind at our backs, the boat handled the conditions a ton better. Steering was kind of a joke as I was cranking the wheel back and forth to maintain my course, but it was a ton better riding the waves rather than heading into them. The wind calmed a little too. We put it at 5mph and headed back to the dock, which is easily a 45 to 60 minute trip.

While this was happening the wife got online and the weather websites were saying 17mph wind, which isn't a ton, but it sure was enough to make some serious swells. I just checked a weather site for the zip code we were boating in, and it said the max wind speed was 20 and the max gust was 29mph.

Learned another lesson: go with your instincts, regardless of how much obligation you feel from your friends that are wanting to get out.

We did get a couple cool sunset pics though.

Wow! That's kinda crazy.

If I were in your shoes the way you described it, I would have definitely gone fast enough to be comfortable about my passenger's safety. And maybe you were, but it was just a bit sketchy. While keeping the docks, boats, and houses damage-free is certainly important, if the waves are creating a potential risk to you and your passengers, the wake you throw from going a little faster (but thereby keeping everyone safe) shouldn't be a big deal. Sounds like the wind was creating some relatively large waves too. Though I assume not enough to damage any docks, boats, or houses.

I don't recall whether you had filled your ballast prior to going through the slow no wake. Hopefully not.

Hey, Jesse - You have always been real good with tools and projects. How come you're not building the boathouse / dock yourself? - Stuart

We have about 150' of water front on the lake. It was protected by a wooden sea wall that had seen better days so the guys brought in heavy equipment to build us a rip rap sea wall instead. I think the dock is way past my expertise!! I know when to try and figure something out and when to hire a professional!!

Definitely no ballast. 3 passengers, with 2 of them in the rear seats. I imagin I'd have went above no wake speed if it was much worse. While I didn't like it, the actual volume of water was probably a half gallon or less each of the times water came over the bow.

The waves were really in the channel, and weren't affecting the houses as much as they were closer to shore.

I had been wanting to put the Moomba chrome letters on our boat for several years but never got motivated enough to peel the large "tribal" graphics off..Just so happens last summer after dropping the family off into the water my dad somehow ran the side of the boat along a barge while I was parking the truck. To make a long story short..$4k later ( insurance claim ) the exterior (both sides) stripped of graphics, repaired, every scratch buffed out and waxed. The boat was repaired with gelcoat from Moomba..the exterior is absolutely mint.
Just installed the chrome letters yesterday. Love them! It's like a new boat!

Well, the weather here pretty much has sucked this weekend with lots of rain. The wife and I even skipped Demo Days at AWS.

So, I am digging into the stereo rewire. Finally upgrading my main runs to 1/0 OFC. It's not the easiest stuff to work with, but thank God for the Hydraulic crimper that I bought for this task.

Don't mind the hole in the seat base, that's for another hot tube, but I've got to move the heater core/fan unit a few inches for clearance.

Got to go out Sunday for a while. Weather was calling 80% chance all day and at 1230 it was clear and sunny. Most people I guess made other plans for the day because Conroe wasn't to rough or crowded! It happened in the infamous Kankakee river. My other friends banged up their prop on their I/O the same day. Then bought a new one then the next day banged the new one up and cracked their casing on there lower unit. Maybe more damage on their boat. They haven't looked at it too much because they are pretty pissed.

I've got a pic somewhere of the PWT SE from last year in Georgia that had a nasty strike while finishing a run during the competition. That one ruined the prop, knocked the drive shaft way out of alignment, ripped off the rudder, and damaged the glass. They had to finish using Parker's boat.

I was going to guess the Kankakee...did you put in near Wilmington? We used to put our I/O in there, never had prop damage but there are so many floating/submerged logs there it made it hard to relax. I don't know what lakes are West of you, but South is Shelbyville and East in Indiana are Cedar and Pine lake. I don't know much about them but my wife used to go there with her family when she was a kid.

I'm from Naperville and would love to find something close (we do all our boating in MI where we have a small place on a lake), but we have never found anything close except the Illinois River in Joliet or the Chain -- neither of which has been particularly appealing. Please keep me posted if you do find something...

LOL. I love the reputation I've gotten. That said, I've been skunked lately with rainy weather in WA. On a good note, I rewired the batteries, Perko, and the amplifiers. Put in 1.5F capacitors. Also added an amp for a 'super secret project'.

My wiring isn't as stealth as most of ya'all do. But I tried to keep it clean and effective. It was a lot to fit on that amp board. 1/0 is a pain to work with, but I was loving my new hydraulic crimper for the ring terminal lugs.

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u492/traysonh/Moomba%20XLV/20160524_180915_zpsisfl67om.jpg

Trayson, how are the PPE amps holding up? I've been meaning to ask you before I buy one for my REV410. My image dynamics isn't really suited for it since I'm not running a 3some anymore.
Its looking good in there though. Glad I'm not the only one with 4 amps and a ton of wiring!

I'm running my 600.2 at 2 ohms powering my Kicker HLCD 6 pack. that hasn't had a single issue. and I've beat on it a few times at tie ups. Likewise with the PPI P900.4 running my 8 cabins at 2 ohms. I did run into an issue with my P1000.1 experiencing some shortlived clipping/protection when I was hammering on it in a tie up. I decided the factors could have been:

Gains were recently increased on my sub amp. were they too high?
System was running off a single Group 29 battery with the engine turned off. Voltage drop from throttleing the system too long on one battery?
Voltage drop over my 4 gauge wire?
Need a capacitor?

So that's what finally made me change out my 4ga to 1/0. I had the 1.5 F of capacitor laying around in the garage so I threw that in for good measure. At some point I'll probably add another battery too. I have enough 1/0 left over to make the connections.

Deerfield- can you board at diamond lake or is it just fishing? Also is there anything close by Plainfield/ Naperville with deep water beside Lake Michigan?

Tweak - Most recent I was at Diamond Lake was 15 years ago. It was an all-purpose lake. We skied and barefooted. But, the village has ended public access for everyone except residents. Gone is the little marina that sold daily launch access. Property was developed into housing. -Deerfield

Able to get a little surf sesh in while also checking where my boat was taking on water! Damn rub rail seal is bad and was filling into port locker from splash and turning bilge on every 5 mins of surfing. Luckily I was level and not listed into rub rail... Moomba wouldn't warranty, so it's in shop out of pocket. Three years old and getting redone.

In the score of a lifetime, I won the brand new $900 light on eBay for $76 shipped, lol!

I also have an SCM-4 in green that I haven't installed (original plan was to do 3 SCM4's in a sort of U shape on the trim tab - until I scored the 10 on the cheap. )

What was the reason for no warranty, isn't that the hull? Do they specifically not warrant the seam?

Yes they said they wouldn't cover the "seal" which is entire rub rail system. I wasn't too happy, as clearly I did nothing or hit nothing to cause seal to break away from hull and trim. Is what it is as I need my boat back for 90s this upcoming week.

Well that's kind of messed up. You may want to have the shop take photos. Sometimes those rails and screws don't exactly get put on correctly. I have seen pics posted here of screws in all kinds of strange places at weird angles. If that is the case you may have a case. Deal with that later.

I have no idea what I hit. Didn't feel a thing. Until I felt the prop smacking the rudder. Might of been the prop that was hitting the gel. I really don't know. But it's going to the shop today.

Did it happen on the kankakee or was it up by the big bridge? The guy that bought my old boat cracked his lower unit right in front of the bar it 13' of water. Have heard of others hitting stuff in the channel right by I55 bridge. I hit a floater last year and damaged my prop, 12' deep when I hit.

No it wasn't by the bar. It was after i55 a ways. It was right before the stretch of water everyone boards at with that little island/ sand bar with that rope swing
